What’s the most controversial opinion you hold?

NC28 · 28/06/2025 19:58

Do you want to share any opinions you have that are (or may be) seen as controversial?

Mine are probably around the severity of criminal punishment the courts should be giving out for certain crimes and what kids should do in the event of physical violence from peers. Both subjects can be quite provoking for others.

What are yours?

Are we only allowed one?! I have loads.

This is an excellent idea.

It could be forced to have a pill implant though, so if they turn their lives around they could come off it.

I’d make it after 2.

This could fly..

‘Forced’ to have something done to your body by the state against your will? What planet are you living on?

SparklyBrickViper · 28/06/2025 20:59

That a cure for Cancer has already been found.

Women don’t have penises. Ever.

Yes but that genuinely isn't controversial amongst people with good mental health and no sexual paraphenias (sp).

Democracy is over rated.Or at least universal suffrage is.

Dogs aren't family members and they should be left at home when their owners go out to the shops for a couple of hours or out to dinner. They should also not be allowed in cafes or restaurants.

Agreed

I find people breastfeeding past the age of 6 months unnecessary.
People get very annoyed by that one!

I agree with this. And I'm not explaining why - or the ins and outs and where fors to anyone who starts grilling me, demanding to know why.

Mashed potatoes are disgusting.

Weirdo. Sorry but you are. Food of gods.

‘Influencers’ that share their children on their social media pages are shit parents.
there should be laws about monetising from them.

I agree with this. They cannot give consent to be monetised.

I also believe that people (any person of any sex, nationality, ethnicity, religion or origin) who moves to the UK for any reason, should be required to pay for use of public services for a period of time.

People should be paying into the system before being allowed to take from it.

Foreign spouses pay £2,587.50 for the nhs every 2.5 years. This is in addition to having jobs and paying taxes. Everyone that moves to the uk legally pays into the system and they are not entittled to public funds until after they have acquired settled status which can take up to 10 years.

I think that babies need routines for feeding and sleeping, including set nap times, and that never putting them down/allowing them to sleep on you leads to exhausted parents and fractious babies and is a bit bonkers.

And dumplings, in all cultures, are wrong. It’s like chewing a damp duvet.

arcticpandas · 28/06/2025 21:01

@SquashMeDown Yes, but you have the whole spectrum (no pun intended) between as well. My son has 50-80% disability according to the child psychiatrists. He's verbal and has no cognitive disability according to Wisc-5. So where would you put him on the scale? He will probably never be independent and always need support but not necessarily 24/7.

Agreed

Me too. Why have dogs become quasi human?

Insidenumbernineteen · 28/06/2025 21:02

Pensioners shouldn’t have the vote.

Most MPs are noble and good.

Nobody should own more than one house, and if they do they should pay enormously discouraging amounts of tax.

Sexual infidelity is fine. It’s secrets and lies that are problematic.

Inheritance Tax should be completely abolished, but anyone receiving any inheritance at all should pay income tax on it.

Assisted dying should not only be introduced as planned, but made much much easier to access than currently described.

I automatically assume anyone that votes Tory or voted for Brexit or reads the daily mail is a racist

I judge women that have kids with more than one man sorry but I just can’t help it! You don’t have to have kids with everyone you meet.

That jars me too. I know quite a few women with 3-5 children who have anything from 2 to 4 surnames between the lot of them - and the mother herself has a different name again.

Send men down the mines and give them all a curfew.

How would they know when the curfew time arrives, if it's dark down in the mines all the time anyway?

FlipFlopShopInHawaii · 28/06/2025 21:04

Humans are omnivores, and a vegan diet is not natural.

Notimeforaname · 28/06/2025 21:04

It doesn't matter if you drive or not. It's not a necessity for everyone.

Catsandcannedbeans · 28/06/2025 21:04

If someone hits me, I will hit them back. This definitely got me beaten up as a teenager but it did stop me getting bullied so a win. My children know how to throw a punch and DD can land an absolutely flawless right hook for a 6 year old, I’ll give her that. They know if someone hits them first they hit back, full force.

I’ve never thought of this one as controversial but there was a thread a while ago about a woman who’s son was basically grabbed by a neighbour for damaging a car and it made me realise maybe it is: my kids know if an adult who isn’t me, their dad, or another care giver grabs them to scream and kick and bite them. I assumed we were all telling our kids that but I guess not, so maybe it’s controversial?

I also don’t help men I don’t know. If they ask me for directions I’ll help them (if they’re polite lol I’ve sent a few the wrong way for being rude) but if a man asks me for assistance with something else I say no. Better a bitch than sorry.

JohnnyLuLus · 28/06/2025 21:04

Pensions should be means-tested.

No one over the threshold should be exempt from inheritance tax.

FunAtFiftySomething · 28/06/2025 21:04

Brexit is very sad and a terrible mistake in my opinion.
