What’s the most controversial opinion you hold?

1000 replies

NC28 · 28/06/2025 19:58

Do you want to share any opinions you have that are (or may be) seen as controversial?

Mine are probably around the severity of criminal punishment the courts should be giving out for certain crimes and what kids should do in the event of physical violence from peers. Both subjects can be quite provoking for others.

What are yours?

Humans are omnivores, and a vegan diet is not natural.

Neither is cooking meat.

I don't like dogs and don't think they should be allowed inside places that serve food.

I really like dogs but I still agree with this. Don't like seeing dogs in shops either.

Dragonblo · 28/06/2025 21:05

Not all kids have ND, some parents just use it as an excuse for shitty behaviour/parenting. I said what I said.

toughtimestoday · 28/06/2025 21:05

That parents who think they are being fantastic when they say "my ten year old has never been apart from me" are often creating damaged adults who struggle to be independent and live very narrow lives.

Breastfeeding is so overrated and a lot of the research around it is bullshit. When your children grow up you realise just how stupid all the controversy around it is - because you can't tell which children were or weren't breastfed!

Younger women who have an affair with a married man with children and then get themselves pregnant are really stupid. If the man wanted a family life he wouldn't have had the affair in the first place! He wants the escapism of a life without those ties.

Having a pet animal living with you in your home is weird. I love animals, I really do, but I believe they should live outdoors. I’ve never met anyone who agrees.

I have a big dog and hard agree! Unfortunately my family don’t 🤣

After working nearly 40 years in the welfare/benefits sector I can say that there’s a significant proportion of people for whom not working is a choice. There are families where they are on to second generation of non-workers. Very sad to see, and it definitely grinds you down dealing with how entrenched it is.

I agree. Just look at the recent thread on here where the poster resented being asked to provide details and didn't want to spend 30 hours per week job hunting. Miraculously cut to just 5 hours per week during the thread ie 1 hour per working day. Not a hint that they wouldn't claim state benefits though. That needs to be stopped now. I am so angry about that - i don't dare post.

Being a SAHM is not a "job".
Having a joint bank account with your spouse doesn't make you more of "a team" than those who have separate finances.
Womens football is shit.

So do you believe that being a childminder, nanny or nursery worker isn't a "job" either?

How would they know when the curfew time arrives, if it's dark down in the mines all the time anyway?

🤷‍♀️

Out of sight, out of mind.

GrumpyDullard · 28/06/2025 21:06

I am a meat-eater but a guilty one. I think we should all be vegan.
Inheritance tax is a good thing.
But my most controversial opinion is probably that there should be no international borders: we should be a global union and everyone should be free to live and work anywhere.
And dog owners who don’t clean up after their dogs should be humanely put down.

SilviaSnuffleBum · 28/06/2025 21:06

Perzival · 28/06/2025 20:13

That severe/profound autism should havea completely separate diagnosis to general autism (again).

I agree 100% with you and I'm Autistic (or, Asperger's as was).

If someone hits me, I will hit them back. This definitely got me beaten up as a teenager but it did stop me getting bullied so a win. My children know how to throw a punch and DD can land an absolutely flawless right hook for a 6 year old, I’ll give her that. They know if someone hits them first they hit back, full force.

I’ve never thought of this one as controversial but there was a thread a while ago about a woman who’s son was basically grabbed by a neighbour for damaging a car and it made me realise maybe it is: my kids know if an adult who isn’t me, their dad, or another care giver grabs them to scream and kick and bite them. I assumed we were all telling our kids that but I guess not, so maybe it’s controversial?

I also don’t help men I don’t know. If they ask me for directions I’ll help them (if they’re polite lol I’ve sent a few the wrong way for being rude) but if a man asks me for assistance with something else I say no. Better a bitch than sorry.

I know this will sound rude but the only person I know who taught her kids that had two of them in prison.

I get the impulse, but it does tend to get you into bother.

Theunamedcat · 28/06/2025 21:06

Men who fertilise multiple women and fuck off should be looked down upon its not just women's fault i didn't know my ex might have another child if she exists she is miles away his family never mentioned it one of his friends told me when I was 8 months along (bit late then) he abandoned her did the same to DD and apparently the same to his wife 🤔

There was a chap whose children attended my sons primary he had at least six children by six different women attending the same school he would pick his next victim on the school run and the current partner looked on occasionally there was a punch up he was even alluded to in our newsletter the school cautionary tale

Remember ladies it's not just a night of fun it could be an 18 year sentence

Speckly · 28/06/2025 21:07

You should have to do a course on child care, have a good understanding of emotional wellbeing and show you can provide for a/another child before choosing to have a family! Through my work role I’ve seen so many fucked up kids who really don’t deserve the lives they live!

Erm, not sure what you're on about? My dc went to nursery, where they were looked after by paid employees. Childminding, also a job.
When I stayed at home looking after my dc, I was on leave from my paid employment, aka my job. HTH.

Disturbia81 · 28/06/2025 20:18

I think all paedos should be gassed. Actually most agree with me on that one 😂

Yup, perfectly happy with that, as abusing a child in any way, either in person or via child pornography, forces a life sentence upon that child. No-one deserves to be given a free pass from having inflicted that horror, and a prison term is never going to be a severe enough punishment.

I'd like to see the reinstatement of the death sentence for quite a number of severe offences.

proximalhumerous · 28/06/2025 21:07

Foolsgold74 · 28/06/2025 20:28

That's just a fact. The world's gone nuts when that's seen as controversial.

I was going to make this comment, but figured I'd be far too late to be the first person to say it.

dynamiccactus · 28/06/2025 21:08

I also agree with IHT.

Ownedbykitties · 28/06/2025 21:08

SquashMeDown · 28/06/2025 20:31

Forgot my main controversial opinion.

The vast majority of men are misogynists and prop up a misogynistic world, and too many women are blind to it.

Agree with this fully. The vast majority of women can't see it because of conditioning. But it's everywhere hiding in plain sight.

FlipFlopShopInHawaii · 28/06/2025 21:08

K0OLA1D · 28/06/2025 21:05

Neither is cooking meat.

Carpaccio, you mean?

Why is everyone else allowed their opinion without comment?

cloudyblueglass · 28/06/2025 21:08

We’re allowed more than one?

Ok.

Men shouldn’t be allowed to gif any politics say in matters of female reproduction

men should be out in prison for non payment of child support

Child support should be higher

Men should have to pay a portion towards supporting the mother of their children if they’re not prepared to share the load that causes barriers to working

if women are left with disabilities as a result if pregnancy and birth that limit her ability to work fathers should have to pay towards supporting the mothers of their children

Pensioners shouldn’t be allowed to vote

RosesAndHellebores · 28/06/2025 21:08

That there are far worse things than smoking cigarettes.

That prostitution should be legalised.

IfYouPutASausageInItItsNotAViennetta · 28/06/2025 21:08

When anybody under 18 commits a very serious crime, their parents (if still alive) or registered guardians should also stand in the dock with them.

It's totally unacceptable for a child to be excused punishment or given a lenient one on account of their age, but their parents are not held responsible for it either.

Please look up going meat-free. You already understand the importance of it, and going meat-free is easier nowadays than you might think.

Allthesnowallthetime · 28/06/2025 20:23

I believe that God exists. But that she is not like how most people ( including myself) imagine her to be.

What is it like then? Do you have an idea? Genuinely interested. Clearly not benevolent, or, if it is, then must be utterly powerless?

Also don't get the anti-breastfeeding thing. Babies main food until 1 is milk, why would you give them expensive synthetic substitute if you can give the real thing (again, if it's right / possible for you)?

StrawberryCheesecake8 · 28/06/2025 21:10

There is too much focus on punishment/ consequences and nowhere near enough resources going into to preventing the issues in the first place.

Women having their 6th baby removed from their care - I just cannot fathom how we go around in this perpetual loop with no change. You look at the family tree and you’ll see generational issues - drugs, poverty, lack of education, abuse.

We keep locking young adults up for selling/ possession of drugs and again, look closely at many of these cases and you’ll realise this kid will spend their entire life in and out of jail, will never be a functioning member of society, will go on to procreate the next generation who will almost definitely have the same lifestyle.

People will argue we need longer sentences/ tougher consequences but if you really look at the lives of these people, you’ll just realise they have been let down by the system/ or lack of!
