What’s the most controversial opinion you hold?

NC28 · 28/06/2025 19:58

Do you want to share any opinions you have that are (or may be) seen as controversial?

Mine are probably around the severity of criminal punishment the courts should be giving out for certain crimes and what kids should do in the event of physical violence from peers. Both subjects can be quite provoking for others.

What are yours?

Women in abusive relationships need to take responsibility for themselves and GTFO specially when kids are involved.

I know it's not easy to leave. I liken it to drug addiction. But no one would ever say don't tell a drug addict not to try and quit that's victim blaming.

Edited

Unfortunately for abused women leaving is a time that are at most risk of being killed

We all have the right to dress how we choose but
Man On The Train- that doesn't mean those stretchy cotton shorts that baggily held your cock'n;balls like a lazy hammock were suitable attire .

I defend your right to choose .
I defend my right not to have that in my field of vision, thanks .

LouiseK93 · 29/06/2025 00:43

That if your not disabled/mentally ill enough to have children or drive then your not disabled/mentally ill enough not to work. I get that some people develop conditions after having children. But if you have an existing condition that means you cant work how is it fair to bring a child into the world that may ultimately end up looking after you.

Each to their own, but if genetics is XY and XX, then how can people think beyond that, like 100+ etc.?

You mean a 100+ genders? I guess people will argue that sex and gender are different things. I personally don’t care how people identify and know what I believe, another’s persons view won’t change that. In terms of biological sex you are right. However you do have intersex which makes things more complicated.

I have 3 kids with 3 dads. First daughter I was 16, second daughter I was in an abusive relationship and I HAD to leave the day he started throwing things at our baby and my third daughter was a person I’d been friends with for over 8 years we’re still together and currently planning our wedding.
I also have my own business (2 actually) and I have a law degree. You can judge all you want but I’m out here thriving

yes 3 kids with 3 dads i would 100% judge

SauronsArsehole · 29/06/2025 00:44

IVF unless you’re using you’re own gametes should be banned.

ditto surrogacy needing an outright ban too.

it’s all organ/tissue/child trafficking, it’s not altruistic because money changes hands in different ways and it’s far too open for exploitation and abuse often of vulnerable, desperate and/or poor women.

women ‘encouraged’ to give up some of their eggs for cheaper treatment.
abusive DRs using their own sperm.
women pushed to sign dehumanising contracts reducing them to incubators because they need the money.
babies being abandoned like what happened on Ukraine at the onset of war.
sisters, friends becoming surrogates or donors and it Tearing families/friendships apart.
etc etc.

yes I’ve had unexplained infertility, multiple miscarriages and didn’t get the family I wanted. I know the pain of it all. My healing shouldn’t (and didn’t!) come through the cost of using and discarding another woman’s body for my own needs.

People should be able to admit in public they would vote Reform without getting judged. We live in a democracy

Yes, we live in a democracy, which is why people are free to pass judgment on other people's voting choices.

That prejudice against certain groups is entirely justified due to those groups behaviour. My proof is that I don't even need to identify those groups by name, only mention certain behaviours and everyone would already know who I'm talking about. Eg if I say 'knife crime, public disorder especially their hooded youth, looting, complete disregard for law', which group comes to mind?

Male chavs, underclass comes to my mind. But I would say it’s more based on the typical stereotypes of chavs.

Formula feeding, unless you're one of the tiny percentage of mothers who truly cannot produce milk, is selfish. It means you're putting yourself first right from the beginning of parenthood.

cadburyegg · 28/06/2025 23:55

Children who are very overweight should be under the care of a dietician service or similar, with their parents strongly encouraged to take their children to clinics. Weighing them in YR and Y6 and sending out a letter each time clearly isn’t doing much for the obesity crisis.

The weighing measuring and weighing in YR and Y6 isn't about individual children and improving their weight. It's a Public Health programme to track the weights of children nationally. They know the letters home don't make a difference, but that's not the point.

tobee · 29/06/2025 00:54

There's an awful lot of ageism on this thread; it seems to be acceptable to a worrying extent.

I think it's wishful and simplistic thinking that having female leaders we'd have no wars.

Most of people's worries about flying and driving and recycling and veganism is tokenism and way to little/late to make a difference; and it's just a way to make yourself feel superior.

Is that really so bad? I think it's okay for parents to be selfish (sometimes)

Dogs should not be kept as pets. Working dogs only. Most pet ownership is less than ideal for the animal and the pet industry encourages irresponsible breeding. I like animals, but in the wild.

I have to disagree, at least for a lot of breeds. As we all surely know by now, many dogs have been domesticated over thousands of years, and the breeds that have most often tended to be well treated - Labrador, Golden Retrievers, Spaniels, etc would, I believe, be devastated if their humans were to suddenly disappear, and they were expected to fend for themselves. There is a reason why we try very hard to rehome any dogs if they can't stay with their initial family for ever, and we don't just throw them out onto the street.

So, are you of the mind @Almostwelsh to adopt dogs and then set them "free"? No true animal lover would do that!

Every man I have ever met who says it's his favourite film has been an insufferable twat who mansplains everything. No idea why, but it's just something I've noticed over many years, and my theory hasn't been proved wrong yet.

Never met a woman who says its her favourite film so I couldn't comment on that.

I’ve never seen it, but this makes me feel that I should. As an insufferable twat spotting device.

HeddaGarbled · 28/06/2025 20:22

Most female celebrities dress like hookers and they’re doing it because they’ve been brainwashed by a patriarchal society not because they’re empowered.

I don't agree generally with this, but a certain AH does that, and I can't stand her, but I do feel sorry for her children.

Aurorali · 29/06/2025 00:58

arcticpandas · 28/06/2025 20:17

Breastfeeding toddlers is...weird at best.

If you eat an animal you should be able to watch it being slaughtered as well.

If you go to Dubai on holidays don't tell me you're a feminist.

If you have plenty of children make sure you can give them a good life (providing for them financially but also time wise- one sahp atleast)

Ok so if ‘breastfeeding toddlers is weird at best’, and ‘if you eat an animal you should watch it be slaughtered as well’, what do you suppose the toddlers should drink other than breast milk? Cows milk? Should toddlers and their mothers be forced to watch farms of cows being milked?!

Weepixie · 29/06/2025 00:58

I think all paedos should be gassed. Actually most agree with me on that one 😂

Can you prove this pls? Because I certainly don’t and not just because the smilie at the end of your post makes you seem deranged.

For age reasons. Nobody above state pension age should vote because they’ve had most of their life and should leave the decisions to those with longer to live. Voting age should also be reduced to at least 16 for the same reason.

Voting at 16 is ridiculous -they are children. Can’t smoke , drink , have a tattoo but yeah let’s give them an opinion on how the country is run ?

Putting yourself first isn't the crime you've been led to believe it is.

The benefits of breastfeeding have been overstated; you're championing a false standard.

Aurorali · 29/06/2025 01:07

Cheesenotcheesecake · 29/06/2025 00:34

People can't and don't change sex; no one was born in the wrong body; women don't have penises

In 99% of cases of you're fat, it's because you overeat compared to your activity level. It's not metabolism, or medication, or illness. You're lying to yourself. It doesn't make you bad or worthless, just fat. I am fat btw

In most cases people can breastfeed if they persevere. It can be bloody difficult, yes, but you were absolutely not, not producing enough milk

A significant number of people need to stop caring about being their kid's friend and setting boundaries.

Children with severe physical and learning difficulties are not in fact better off in mainstream schools. They deserve specialist settings. Integration can happen in other ways

People who regularly buy from shein and temu are selfish, short sighted idiots.

I agree with all of this, other than the Temu / Shein statement. I think most people who shop from there shop for it for the price (and are often financially struggling) and don’t consider the ethical implications.

tsmainsqueeze · 29/06/2025 01:07

There are many benefit claimants who are just lazy buggers with no intention of ever getting a job with low aspirations happy to sponge off the state.
(I am also proud to live in a country who support those who genuinely cannot work and i don't begrudge them a single penny.)
I agree with pp saying paedos should be gassed.
I have no respect for certain religions who treat women like dogs.
Under 5's should not have pierced ears ,especially babies !
National trust properties seem to attract more performance type parents than other places.

That severe/profound autism should havea completely separate diagnosis to general autism (again).

Completely agree. I think the range of autism severity is so vast that the diagnosis isn’t really helpful anymore.
My daughter is autistic, needs virtually zero additional support and if you met her you’d just think she was quiet and shy.
The son of someone I know is autistic, he’s non verbal, almost an adult, is still in nappies and will never be able to live alone.
It doesn’t feel right that they have the same diagnosis without differentiation.

By the same token, why allow the future of the country to be shaped by a generation holding mostly outdated views and stereotypes?
