What’s the most controversial opinion you hold?

Do you want to share any opinions you have that are (or may be) seen as controversial?

Mine are probably around the severity of criminal punishment the courts should be giving out for certain crimes and what kids should do in the event of physical violence from peers. Both subjects can be quite provoking for others.

What are yours?

Marriage should not be a state-sanctioned act as regulation of personal relationships is not the role of the state.

Having children is a personal lifestyle choice, and it should not be the job of the taxpayer to subsidise someone's choices.

Everyone who doesn’t like hot weather should STFU and stop complaining about it.

Yes!

I really dislike dogs and can’t at all understand why anyone would want an animal in their home, climbing all over their furniture and shedding their fur everywhere, adding that inconvenience to their life of scheduled walks, can’t go out for more than x hours without a dog sitter etc. Just don’t get it. And don’t get me started on dog owners who assume everyone else likes dogs and don’t mind their animal jumping all over me and my kids.

I don't actually dislike dogs, but I so agree that people who let their dogs jump up are absurd. I also think that if you are caught letting your dog foul and not cleaning up there should be an automatic fine of £500.00, and if you do it more than once it should be a criminal offense. It is absolutely disgusting and a big problem where I live, which is a 'nice' area.

The NHS shouldn't be free for most people.

Let me guess, you would be one of the people it will still be free for 🙄

This is just ridiculous, as well as objectively wrong. They are the ultimate form of potato.

Food of the gods when done properly, you have to have the correct variety of spuds, add hot milk, butter and use a potato ricer. I sometimes add grainy mustard or grated cheese to mine. I think they are the ultimate in comfort food

Degrees aren't easier than they used to be, they are just more accessible for poor people. Now that they aren't exclusive to the rich, they try to devalue the achievement and claim the degree is given away. It would be unfathomable for them to accept that poor people are just as clever as they are, but lack opportunities.

Hm. As a poor person starting my degree 48 years ago, I was astonished by the amount of grant I’d been given to do a degree in London. Degrees certainly weren’t exclusive to the rich back in the day. The difference is that far more students, rich and poor, do degrees and the real problem is that a fairly large number of the ones who won’t necessarily benefit from those degrees, in subjects that aren’t necessarily particularly academic, won’t ever pay back their student loans.

Then I suggest you petition the state to ensure both parents take equal responsibility a for employers to pay real wages and for scrounging landlords to be outlawed.

Female music stars who prance around in their underwear writhing and twerking are in no position to complain about objectification and the patriarchy.

I agree with your opinion about those with profound needs needing a different diagnosis, however my preference would be for those people to get the autism diagnosis, as they did 30 years ago and something else could be found for the others.

Sorry, not sure what happened, but thought I’d quoted the post I was responding to!

As community service for being disabled?

Oh, I was more making the point that being disabled doesn't necessarily mean you can't work.

Although that does however raise the question why you'd be receiving benefits if you could work. But you could argue that they do something to benefit society where possible if society are happy to pay for their benefits - I'm not saying that's my view, but one could argue that if people are happy for their taxes to go to the needy rather than having more for their own family then maybe it could be a two way street.

No, back then the criteria for both dx were much more limited than the current criteria for an autism dx. Currently autism is an umbrella dx.

Tbh I don't really care how the rest of the spectrum is split or not, I just want those with severe/profound to have a completely separate dx. They need it for support, representation and understanding of how they present.

My previous response was in reply to this.

Yes, in the 70s approx 10% did degrees now its approx 50%. Where have all the additional jobs needing degrees come from?

More controversial opinions:

Men are selected by women. If a woman wants to have a child, then she needs to select a man who is prepared to do the work to parent a child.

Wages aren't the issue. Cost of living is the issue. Cost of living is high because house prices are high. House prices are high because of generations of politicians who think that property is supposed to be an investment, and not a place to live.

Landlords would not be an issue if housing supply was plentiful, as then market economics would ensure that landlords actually charge reasonable prices and do the work they are supposed to do.

CharliXCX is absolutely shit! (On Glastonbury just now, pretty sure she was miming).

Raye, who was on before her, was amazing!! (Not a controversial opinion in sure).

That severe/profound autism should havea completely separate diagnosis to general autism (again).

Interesting this one. Going to give that some thought, I think in America they grade it, I can see the merit of it but also the drawbacks.

twilightermummy · 28/06/2025 23:30

I think that there needs to be a coup of the elite and basically just a French revolution style rebellion. Get rid of the Royals and all of the rich people that control our way of life. There are so many more of us than them yet we have been conditioned to believe that there needs to be a a class system and that all the world's money must be enjoyed by the very few. I don't know how any of that would work so please don't ask me about the logistics! I've just always thought that the traps humans have created for themselves are mental really.

I think that most men are misogynistic so I have to steer clear of many conversations in company because usually, I always revert back to "it's because of men".

I have started to think that capital punishment needs to return. Stories like Sarah Sharif and baby Star and the many many other horror stories that come out of abuse towards children just sicken me. Why keep scum like that alive? I never thought I'd have said that 20 years ago.
On the other hand, I think that offenders who aren't rapists, abusers or murderers shouldn't be haunted by a record for their entire lives.

I don't like Kate and William (that's a tough one to say in public). In fact I think the whole royal family are shoved down our throats. Channel 5 advertise a royal show on a weekly basis. It's weird.

In contrast to another poster, I actually think that people should be allowed to bike on the pavement as roads are so dangerous!

Love this thread. I'll probably be back with more!

I agree. Everyone in my household could probably get an Autism diagnosis as we have various traits. But we are all very high functioning and nothing like a person with severe autism
