What’s the most controversial opinion you hold?

NC28 · 28/06/2025 19:58

Do you want to share any opinions you have that are (or may be) seen as controversial?

Mine are probably around the severity of criminal punishment the courts should be giving out for certain crimes and what kids should do in the event of physical violence from peers. Both subjects can be quite provoking for others.

What are yours?

Mashed potatoes are disgusting.

OMG - yes !

It's my opinion and the point of the thread is controversial opinions. I'd say it's on topic.

There is controversial, and there is completely bloody ridiculous.

PregnantBarbie · 28/06/2025 23:08

ExercicenformedeZ · 28/06/2025 22:58

'non binary'? Behave!

If only more of them took a 'non whinery' approach. 😂

BitOutOfPractice · 28/06/2025 23:08

Owning pets is cruel.

Agree, and here you are.

That if you are claiming welfare, you should have to do a certain number of hours community service each week.
Imagine how clean the streets would be if people were out cleaning / sweeping / painting every day.

I'm assuming those who are disabled or who care for disabled children would be exempt?

mylovedoesitgood · 28/06/2025 23:09

Ambika Mod was shit in the TV adaptation of One Day and was completely miscast. No wonder Leo Woodall's career is sky rocketing. I loved Anne Hathaway in the film (dodgy accent aside).

RedRosie · 28/06/2025 23:09

Degrees are definitely easier, pretty much everyone in HE will know this. But that's not the fault of the young people taking them.

I love Shawshank!

Many disabled people could do online work. Administrative stuff.

I don't know how controversial this is, but I find most celebrities now to be incredibly boring compared to even a couple of decades ago. There are a few notable exceptions, but on the whole I find them so so bland and with very limited talent. There is also far too much nepotism in Hollywood, to the extent that normal people can barely get a look in.

Agree but I guess they censor themselves so they don’t get cancelled? Hollywood has 3 camps, the nepo babies, the ones that only got jobs purely based on looks and very little talent and the ones that actually have talent but this is a small group.

Lelumpolelum · 28/06/2025 23:11

Dogs are unsanitary and don’t belong in places where people eat or drink. Also, they can’t be compared to human babies.

Using a surrogate should be illegal.

Maternity/Paternity leave should be extended to 3 years (fully paid).

If you commit a crime in the UK then you should be deported to the country of your origin, there are over ten thousand foreign nationals in prison here so that would free up some room!

Yes, absolutely agree with this - this is common sense!

SapphireSeptember · 28/06/2025 23:13

Make up has got really really boring. Even Urban Decay are shite now. Just a sea of the same shades. At least nail polish is still fun.

Having a pet animal living with you in your home is weird. I love animals, I really do, but I believe they should live outdoors. I’ve never met anyone who agrees.

I agree but that’s probably cos I was raised in Africa , grew up with two dogs; Coursge and Tarzan & they were kept doors, never allowed on our seats or beds etc etc

Lesina · 28/06/2025 23:13

That Lucy Letby is innocent and has been scapegoated by a failing NHS.

IfYouPutASausageInItItsNotAViennetta · 28/06/2025 21:11

Well, if a full-time SAHM (or SAHD) is not doing an actual job, how can you say that somebody caring for their children on their behalf whilst they are at work is any more doing a job?

Caring for your OWN children is no more a job than vacuuming your own living room and comparing yourself to a cleaner or taking a bath and comparing yourself to a home help/ someone who provides personal care for someone else in an employed capacity.

calling it a ‘job’ is a piss take, so do we say that parents with ACTUAL jobs are doing 2 shifts then, one in the office then one at home when they get home and still care for their children?

FiveBarGate · 28/06/2025 23:14

That we are ruining both dogs and children by becoming slaves to their every desire.

The culture of martyrdom motherhood is not beneficial to raising balanced children, to female empowerment or to the women themselves.

Learning that the world does not revolve around you is a life skill we should all learn and every emotion does not need to be discussed.

CrackSpackle · 28/06/2025 23:14

People should have to pass psychological and financial criteria to have children. Yeah. I know. But 🤷🏼‍♀️

Any guy who says The Shawshank Redemption is his favourite film is an absolute bell end. It immediately puts me off.

I'm curious as to why you feel that way?

As community service for being disabled?

prelovedusername · 28/06/2025 23:16

SharonEllis · 28/06/2025 22:57

Me too! The human race has lost its collective mind over domesticated animals, especially dogs. Whike it doesnt seem to give a shit about the decline of wildlife.

Couldn’t agree more. And it is the worst kind of cruelty to prolong the life of a terminally or critically ill domestic pet because the owner can’t bear to let them die.

Motherofdragons24 · 28/06/2025 23:16

I really dislike dogs and can’t at all understand why anyone would want an animal in their home, climbing all over their furniture and shedding their fur everywhere, adding that inconvenience to their life of scheduled walks, can’t go out for more than x hours without a dog sitter etc. Just don’t get it. And don’t get me started on dog owners who assume everyone else likes dogs and don’t mind their animal jumping all over me and my kids.

tobee · 28/06/2025 23:17

People don't need trigger warnings on things. People are much stronger than they think they are and can cope perfectly well. Other people put trigger warnings on things are setting people up to be worried unnecessarily.

PregnantBarbie · 28/06/2025 23:17

Maternity/Paternity leave should be extended to 3 years (fully paid).

Fuck me, I'd have a baby and sell it online for three years off fully paid. 🤣

PinkChaires · 28/06/2025 23:17

Absolutely that there should be ‘levels’ when being diagnosed with autism/adhd etc
also that there has been significant over diagnosis of autism and adhd in particular and that its going to cause a lot of problems in the future
