What’s the most controversial opinion you hold?

NC28 · 28/06/2025 19:58

Do you want to share any opinions you have that are (or may be) seen as controversial?

Mine are probably around the severity of criminal punishment the courts should be giving out for certain crimes and what kids should do in the event of physical violence from peers. Both subjects can be quite provoking for others.

What are yours?

Yes, horrifying so it should be a could deterrent then. I would volunteer but I doubt there would be any issue in finding other volunteers. If people are evil enough to abuse and kill children then I think it’s only fair they get the punishment they deserve. Death is too easy. Plus why should the taxpayer be having to folk out money than necessary to pay for these pieces of scum. You don’t agree. But I stand by what I said.

I think you and most people who say this are talking bollocks and wouldn't saw somebody limbs off when it came to it.

Breastfeeding is weird. The thought of it makes me
feel sick. I have 3 (soon to be 4 children) and none have ever had a drop of breast milk.

Off topic but did you get any milk from your breasts? I wanted to bf but couldn't, don't know if I didn't do it right. None came out when I squeezed etc

i couldn’t disagree more.

the best person for the job should get it. Irrespective of age, sex, ethnicity etc.

If we want the disabled, the older, the marginalised to work, we have to put our money where our mouth is and equalise the balance.

I do!

Me too! The human race has lost its collective mind over domesticated animals, especially dogs. Whike it doesnt seem to give a shit about the decline of wildlife.

kerstina · 28/06/2025 22:57

Most people are selfish. They say they love and care about animals but don’t care that they are killed for them to fry or put in the oven.

IVF shouldn't be NHS funded. Infertility is not an illness.

I came here to give this as my controversial opinion. I have many more though. I spend a lot of my time biting my tongue!

Degrees aren't easier than they used to be, they are just more accessible for poor people. Now that they aren't exclusive to the rich, they try to devalue the achievement and claim the degree is given away. It would be unfathomable for them to accept that poor people are just as clever as they are, but lack opportunities.

You could Google grade inflation over the last 20 years if you're interested.

is IVF cheaper than treating the mental health issues caused by infertility? Saying that, the inability to personally fund ivf is an indicator that maybe you can’t afford children.

Cost benefit analysis required.

Not everyone who can't have children will go on to have mental health problems, that's a ridiculous thing to say. I know a number of women with no children due to infertility, or a lower number than they'd hoped for, who did not suffer mental health problems.

I know a lot of people with mental health problems though. Overwhelmingly they do have children. So there's that ....

If you commit a crime in the UK then you should be deported to the country of your origin, there are over ten thousand foreign nationals in prison here so that would free up some room!

Which would be filled by all the UK nationals imprisoned abroad. Didn’t think that one through did you?

okydokethen · 28/06/2025 22:59

That some kids are naughty or poorly parented or have suffered trauma, we overlook this and are eager to slap on a diagnosis of autism or ADHD - more often for the parent’s benefit.

That NEVER-OFFENDING paedophiles (including avoiding online/in-person offences) should be supported to access therapy to prevent them offending in the future. I think people are driven to a very dark place when they are too ashamed to ask for support for a sexual preference they did not choose.

OFFENDING paedophiles should either receive indefinite prison time or be killed.

Agree with this. I think there was an episode of House (or might have been Chicago Med) where there was a man dying of cancer. He'd been struggling with an attraction to children his whole life but had never acted on it. Ended up feeling really sorry for the character.

Although I think punishments for accessing child sexual abuse images need to be harsher.

I think if someone kills a woman who is more than 24 weeks pregnant they should be charged with two deaths. I know there's 'child destruction' but it's not the same thing. There's been some awful cases over the years where women have been murdered by their exes/partners when pregnant, some of whom have been very close to giving birth.

bettyinsweats · 28/06/2025 23:01

Oooof ok here goes..

You should not have a child/children if you have bad mental health issues, if not being able to have a baby or the thought of not being able to conceive makes you not want to live - you should not be bringing a life into your world.

Dragonblo · 28/06/2025 23:01

Definitely wouldn’t apply to a much younger child than my child. Would never advocate that sort of response. It was more for their peers, so the kids in the same class at school or in the same age clubs etc.

I think they know that hitting is wrong about 3 years old (in my experience), though impulse control is often out the window at that age, so it doesn’t always work very well, lol!

I think for me it would be if the child had a LD which affected their cognitive ability, so say they were 10 years old but had the mind of a 5 year old. It’s complex. A lot of vulnerable adults with similar LDs are taking advantage of for this very reason. So probably that and age would be the two factors for me. I can’t think of any other factors.

Winglessvulture · 28/06/2025 20:48

I think that all parents should be required to attend an in depth parenting course during pregnancy that covers not only birth and the newborn stage but also covers child development beyond this. To follow up, I think some form of health care visitation at home should also be entirely mandatory at regular intervals up until the child starts school. There are too many people who are not given enough support both pre and post partum, do not know when to turn when they are struggling, have no idea of what to expect beyond the first few weeks or months. And far too many children who fall between the cracks.

was about to post something similar, I think the return of SureStart would be a good thing.

The older I get, the more I think chocolate is overrated and a bit of a chore to eat.

That if you are claiming welfare, you should have to do a certain number of hours community service each week.
Imagine how clean the streets would be if people were out cleaning / sweeping / painting every day.

we should experiment with giving all men a curfew for a couple of months to allow women to walk the streets after dark freely and without fear.

Prince William is not handsome and he has a weird smile.

Hearing how saintly Diana was (she wasn’t and knew what she was doing).

Harry chose to walk behind the coffin

Thong bikini bottoms - I don’t want to see your arse thank you

Indeed.

I also sometimes think that benefits should be issued in the form of vouchers where possible so that they can't be spent on booze and fags etc.

ExercicenformedeZ · 28/06/2025 23:05

I don't know how controversial this is, but I find most celebrities now to be incredibly boring compared to even a couple of decades ago. There are a few notable exceptions, but on the whole I find them so so bland and with very limited talent. There is also far too much nepotism in Hollywood, to the extent that normal people can barely get a look in.

I agree with 2 of 4. William is weird looking. And no butt thanks. Male or female.

I also don't want to see male nipples at the pool or beach. Weird rubbery looking pointless things.

I don’t take offensive to this but what do you mean by “if not being able have a baby or the thought of not being able to conceive makes you not want to live?” Would that also be under fertility?
