What’s the most controversial opinion you hold?

Do you want to share any opinions you have that are (or may be) seen as controversial?

Mine are probably around the severity of criminal punishment the courts should be giving out for certain crimes and what kids should do in the event of physical violence from peers. Both subjects can be quite provoking for others.

What are yours?

That autism is overdiagnosed and also seems to be used as an excuse for all kinds of poor behaviour. This place is a good example of that: people only have to mention someone being a complete CF and someone will, without fail, suggest that they might be autistic.

That men aren't inherently worse than women or useless, and a lot of poor male behaviour would be stopped if women stopped enabling it and treating men as kids and then moaning about it.

That cats are better than dogs. They are more intelligent, they are cleaner, and they are more loving. What people see as 'loyalty' in dogs is just pack behaviour. I don't actually dislike dogs but I infinitely prefer cats.

That people who moan about how rude customers have become since Covid fail to take into account how poor customer service has correspondingly become. When you are being ripped off six ways to Sunday and also faced with some blank faced idiot saying 'it's not my problem' then it's hardly surprising that your manners might not quite be perfect. I'm not saying it's ever right to be abusive, but being a little snappy is more than understandable and also doesn't count as being abusive.

IVF shouldn't be NHS funded. Infertility is not an illness.

Agree, as a woman with an IVF conceived child.
paid for by us.

I find people breastfeeding past the age of 6 months unnecessary.
People get very annoyed by that one!

Probably because milk is still the main source of nutrition until 12+ months. Plus there are plenty of benefits to both baby and mum to continued breastfeeding.

You didn't have to have the child... So you are talking shit

The majority of people don’t walk enough and if they did more chores rather than paying other people to, we wouldn’t be in the midst of an obesity epidemic

Happilyobtuse · 28/06/2025 22:41

Benefits need to be for those that are physically unfit due to disability or mentally diagnosed with conditions such as bipolar, split personality disorder, or the old and vulnerable etc. Everyone else should not see a penny unless they work for it in some way, the work ethic in this country is absolutely appalling!

Now mums are getting diagnosed as well, because DC has it.

Pubs and alcohol consumption is declining

For many reasons but not because it’s been legally restricted and made to be socially unacceptable.

As long as you can go into a supermarket and see aisles full of different alcohol in an array of nicely designed bottles and cans whilst cigarettes are locked up behind shutters in plain packaging with pictures of mangled feet on them I will stand by what I said. The wrong thing has been prioritised and society would be far better off if we did what we did to smoking to drinking.

CaptainKiddies · 28/06/2025 22:42

Dog prams encapsulate everything that is wrong with society.

Saying elderly people get pleasure out of pushing their happy dog to the park and are doing no harm is spectacularly missing the point of what it means to an animal lover.

Most of the dogs are fat, wheezy and unhealthy. It's just wrong.

There are also a whole subset who are actually using the dogs to pretend they're babies and it's toe curling to watch them fawn over the poor dog in an unnatural and smothering way. They are not fur babies.

Let dogs be dogs and when they're too unhealthy to walk give them the dignity of a peaceful passing. alternatively don't have dogs if you can't exercise them properly!

Abortion is loved in this forum

It's disgusting

It's an excuse for men to get their dick wet and mum are judged for keeping.

I say that as a single mum

Who cares? Worry about children who are already here.

anonymous98 · 28/06/2025 22:39

This is a surprisingly popular opinion.

I take no offence, but I do have a question. I carry the BRCA2 gene and will need IVF at some point to ensure that I don't pass it on to any of my children. Do people who oppose IVF on the NHS oppose it in all contexts?

(Genuinely not offended - just curious).

Presumably you have a harmful mutation of the BRCA2 gene, which suppressed tumours, so you are more at risk of developing them.

Cats are not better than dogs! Cats are basically rats with more fur.

Yes all the boat people and Muslims

Melancholyflower · 28/06/2025 22:44

I agree with your opinion about those with profound needs needing a different diagnosis, however my preference would be for those people to get the autism diagnosis, as they did 30 years ago and something else could be found for the others.

Degrees aren't easier than they used to be, they are just more accessible for poor people. Now that they aren't exclusive to the rich, they try to devalue the achievement and claim the degree is given away. It would be unfathomable for them to accept that poor people are just as clever as they are, but lack opportunities.

But why weren’t they more accessible in the days of grants? I was in the last few years of grants and I was there with ex miners and steel workers, people who’d gone to Ruskin via the unions, ex prostitutes. But the majority were posh kids, solid middle class at least, very few from a real working class family. Jobs were scarce and it was a fact that if you got a degree you could get a decent job and you got paid to go! But now it seems the emphasis is kids doing 6th form and go to uni and there’s too many grads and too few grad jobs. And they pay for the privilege!

WalkingWavy · 28/06/2025 22:39

Very controversial but I think being thin is a choice you can make. You don’t have to live with overweight or obesity

Although I agree to an extent the amount of calories for some is significantly less then others . I use to be able to eat loads and not gain weight but since getting hypothyroidism, going on antipsychotics and getting older I have to eat under a 1000 calories a day to lose weight. People use to always say what's your truck how do you stay so skinny their was no trick i could eat what I wanted and never gained weight. Now I hardly eat anything and find it difficult to even just maintain my weight let alone lose weight.

I judge women that have kids with more than one man sorry but I just can’t help it! You don’t have to have kids with everyone you meet.

What about men that have kids with more than one woman?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 28/06/2025 22:46

Anyone who allows their child to use a scooter in a shopping centre or supermarket , health centre or on the walkway of a railway station where they are a risk to other people , many of whom might be unsteady on their feet should have the scooter confiscated , folded up , beaten about the head/neck/shoulders with the bloody thing and the scooter crushed .

Can you tell I was pissed off at the parents who let their child scooter down the sloping ramp walkway at the railway station?
The slope is easier for people who cannot use stairs.
It is not for your offspring to go haring off on wheels on.

I am putting Heeleys in there too.
Fecking hate them
