What’s the most controversial opinion you hold?

NC28 · 28/06/2025 19:58

Do you want to share any opinions you have that are (or may be) seen as controversial?

Mine are probably around the severity of criminal punishment the courts should be giving out for certain crimes and what kids should do in the event of physical violence from peers. Both subjects can be quite provoking for others.

What are yours?

Having a pet animal living with you in your home is weird. I love animals, I really do, but I believe they should live outdoors. I’ve never met anyone who agrees.

I kinda agree in principal, but dogs have evolved so much since they were wolves that they're not really wild animals anymore. Apparently it's the stimulation of the part of the brain involved with language that is driving canine evolution the most.

I don’t give one shit what a child’s behavioural issues/family trauma/diagnoses/suspected issues etc etc are. If they ever put their hands on my child in order to hurt them, I will ensure my child has my blessing to punch their face in.

Will die on this particular hill.

I agree with you but I’m thinking if there any factors that would change this. Age? LD? What age would you say a child knows that it’s wrong to hit? Like two?

Cheating against me! I’m trying to diet and can’t turn off my food noise. Or booze noise. Is booze noise a thing yet?

Oh I see, I have read that the injections dull the desire for alcohol with some people.

Mrsplants · 28/06/2025 22:23

I think mine would have to be that I distrust people who say they don’t like dogs. I know it isn’t logical, but I just do.

That they should restrict flying so people can only fly twice a year (once but return) unless they have family in other countries

That men have to put up with as much from women as we do from them

that koala bears are scary looking

Enlighten me on what men have to put up with that's comparable? Inequality in domestic work? A pay gap? Fear of walking down the street alone or of being raped? Or 2 of you being murdered by your spouse every week? Or women starting global wars? Of sexually abusing children or paying trafficked women to rape them? For fathering multiple kids and then leaving them?

Some of the opinions on here are terrifying! As a pensioner, I will carry on voting in every election, and shopping when it is convenient for me. My labrador also says he would far rather live with me than have to support himself - he doesn't think he is qualified for any job that would keep him in the luxury he is used to.
My own controversial opinion is I like men, and think most of them are decent human beings. Also being a SAHM is definitely a job, and working mums should stop sneering at people who decide that is best for their family.

Well said. 👏

I would buy you a bottle of gin and a packet of B&H.

I'd go for vodka and lambert and butler

Mashed potatoes are disgusting.

This is just ridiculous, as well as objectively wrong. They are the ultimate form of potato.

That NEVER-OFFENDING paedophiles (including avoiding online/in-person offences) should be supported to access therapy to prevent them offending in the future. I think people are driven to a very dark place when they are too ashamed to ask for support for a sexual preference they did not choose.

OFFENDING paedophiles should either receive indefinite prison time or be killed.

I really very much agree with this. I don't think that NON OFFENDING paedophiles are able to access any support at all. If they have made the decision to to never act on their sexual preference they should be able to access support.

FeeLipa · 28/06/2025 22:25

Poodle crosses are the worst type of dogs to exist. Even the creator of the labradoodle regrets it. Often the go to choice for people who shouldn't have a dog, bought knowingly from puppy farms, and then complain about the groomer who has to shave the poor thing when it's a giant matt because they can't keep up with the grooming.

Also, I think a fair proportion of feminists (with a capital F) have personality disorders.

Easy to say if it's not you or a much loved family member.
Besides, quite often this is exactly what is offered. My grandfather was diagnosed with advanced cancer in his 80s and was told that, while a younger person might've benefited from aggressive treatment, it was likely to be pointless for him.

My newest controversial opinion is that people who think prisons should be abolished, should have to live on an island with people who would have been imprisoned.
And leave the rest of us out of it.

YourKookyNavyBee · 28/06/2025 22:27

People have talked themselves into thinking they have autism

LadyRoughDiamond · 28/06/2025 22:27

Once you’ve had children, your happiness is not more important than theirs, and it’s not ok to divorce just because you’re feeling unfulfilled/bored/unloved/ignored. You’re the grown up - live with your decisions for a few more years.

Anyone who raises animals for meat consumption -pigs,sheep,turkeys,cows any other animal should be forced to have an abbatoir at home set up .
It could be a mobile truck , herd them in, do the business , next .Only to be done by skilled slaughter staff and CCTV to be used so no inhumane , deliberate or neglectful harm is caused . Cattle prodding , wrongful stunning , striking
The transport from farm to auction to abbatoir is inhumane .
They are forced into a truck , crammed in, they are supposed to be fed/watered but who knows . Then unloaded and herded somewhere else .

I am not saying "don;t raise meat animals" but those who do should be responsible for their entire life ,

Wheresthebeach · 28/06/2025 22:28

gender ideology depends on out dated awful stereotypes

JohnnyLuLus · 28/06/2025 22:28

That flying for holidays is selfish and unnecessary. Travelling the world shouldn't be seen as something that we encourage any more, and if you want to see somewhere in Europe go by train. Yes it's not as quick as flying, but I really think that flying for leisure needs to stop. The planet is fucking dying.

For similar reasons - no one needs fast fashion. People argue that they can't afford to not shop fast-fashion but people used to. They bought better and mended things. They didn't buy 12 dresses from PLT or Shein for one holiday that they'll never wear again. They didn't use to throw clothing away.

Donating to charity shops has become a way to get rid of your crap without the guilt of landfill. However most of what's donated is so awful it gets out into landfill anyway and costs the charity time to sort and get rid of it.

No children outside of marriage.

Children is the biggest commitment you can make, why people say they’re not ready for marriage but have a kid together blows my mind. Then they wonder why a ring never comes..

I'm not sure that many farmers would have a problem with that. Now if the point was you could only buy live animals and kill them yourself that would probably change peoples behaviour.
