What’s the most controversial opinion you hold?

Do you want to share any opinions you have that are (or may be) seen as controversial?

Mine are probably around the severity of criminal punishment the courts should be giving out for certain crimes and what kids should do in the event of physical violence from peers. Both subjects can be quite provoking for others.

What are yours?

Trans women are men

That's not controversial it's common sense!

Animals do not belong to people. Removing them from their families causes them harm, which is why they spend time crying for them, only stopping when they give up hope and instead attach themselves to the human who has made them suffer in this way because 'I want a pet'

Oh, that has made me cry. You aren't wrong, when I really think about that. Sad

Ridiculous.
50 maybe, I'd agree.

I think Bernie Ecclestone was 90 when he fathered his last!

I agree that mashed potatoes are dreadful. Awful business. I don't understand why it is done. We don't mash other food.

We mush peas.

After working nearly 40 years in the welfare/benefits sector I can say that there’s a significant proportion of people for whom not working is a choice. There are families where they are on to second generation of non-workers. Very sad to see, and it definitely grinds you down dealing with how entrenched it is.

I mean, you could say that about the very wealthy / tax dodgers too 😉

50 is batshit though. Should be 42 IMO.

Weight loss drugs are cheating*.

*for the people not prescribed them who buy them online.

/ducks

Cheating who exactly? I have no skin in the game, trust me, but I don't see who is being cheated. People are paying a lot for this.

Purplebunnie · 28/06/2025 22:18

Very controversial

The contraceptive pill should only be free for those on benefits and those with medical reasons. It would cost most users £20 for a years supply if you get 2 x 6 months on prescription. The NHS could save a fortune. People spend more on their take away coffees

50!!!! That's obscene, poor baby with a granny for a mum.

I fear AI and wish we could just turn it off. We are marching headlong to our own obsolescence.

We mush peas.

We also mash carrots and parsnips, and turnip, and compote fruit... does that count.

I love mashed potato so I'm biased

Dogaredabomb · 28/06/2025 21:24

Me too! I think it's quite logical for them to spend it on drugs and alcohol.

This is how I feel if I was homeless i would also take drugs and drink to cope.

Depends on the woman I guess.
Margaret Thatcher liked a war.

Hmm, she didn’t start them though.

Cheating against me! I’m trying to diet and can’t turn off my food noise. Or booze noise. Is booze noise a thing yet?

cloudyblueglass · 28/06/2025 22:21

The splitting of finances for separated families should equal out incomes so there isn’t a disparity between households. Two people made the kids, two people should provide equally.

LovingLimePeer · 28/06/2025 22:21

That NEVER-OFFENDING paedophiles (including avoiding online/in-person offences) should be supported to access therapy to prevent them offending in the future. I think people are driven to a very dark place when they are too ashamed to ask for support for a sexual preference they did not choose.

OFFENDING paedophiles should either receive indefinite prison time or be killed.

That advances in medicine have made survival possible for babies who will have no quality of life.

Indianajet · 28/06/2025 22:22

Some of the opinions on here are terrifying! As a pensioner, I will carry on voting in every election, and shopping when it is convenient for me. My labrador also says he would far rather live with me than have to support himself - he doesn't think he is qualified for any job that would keep him in the luxury he is used to.
My own controversial opinion is I like men, and think most of them are decent human beings. Also being a SAHM is definitely a job, and working mums should stop sneering at people who decide that is best for their family.

Dogaredabomb · 28/06/2025 22:22

Almostwelsh · 28/06/2025 20:24

Dogs should not be kept as pets. Working dogs only. Most pet ownership is less than ideal for the animal and the pet industry encourages irresponsible breeding. I like animals, but in the wild.

Dogs are not wild animals, wolves are! Dogs have been domesticated over thousands of years. Pet dogs today would simply not survive. You’ve only got to look to the Indian street dogs to see what kind of a life they would have if they didn’t have a safe home with humans.

Degrees aren't easier than they used to be, they are just more accessible for poor people. Now that they aren't exclusive to the rich, they try to devalue the achievement and claim the degree is given away. It would be unfathomable for them to accept that poor people are just as clever as they are, but lack opportunities.

But in the 1980s only one or two people per cohort would get a First, but now it’s something like 30%
Exams are taken on a modular basis and often include coursework. In the 1980s it was all examinable at the end of three years.
I believe degrees were even harder say in the 1940s
