What’s the most controversial opinion you hold?

NC28 · 28/06/2025 19:58

Do you want to share any opinions you have that are (or may be) seen as controversial?

Mine are probably around the severity of criminal punishment the courts should be giving out for certain crimes and what kids should do in the event of physical violence from peers. Both subjects can be quite provoking for others.

What are yours?

@OutdoorQueen seriously? No, nobody wants to be 'confronted' for feeding their child.

You'd 'confront' (harass) a woman trying to feed her hungry child in public because, what, it makes you uncomfortable therefore how dare she?

comoatoupeira · 28/06/2025 22:06

Babies don’t have genders

Pretty much yes to all that, except the senior school thing. 9am to 5pm is too long a day IMO. 9 til 3 is long enough IMO.

And will your DC be doing national service?
Fighting in a war for Trump?

That truly accidental pregnancies are quite rare and mostly it’s not using contraception properly. Yes I know there’s exceptions to this belief.

Having a pet animal living with you in your home is weird. I love animals, I really do, but I believe they should live outdoors. I’ve never met anyone who agrees.

I agree 100%

Depends on the woman I guess.

No. animals do not belong to people, but I'm guessing you have no idea of what life is like for a stray cat.

Exactly! One of our cats was a pregnant stray. She was thin and unwell. She had her kittens at a local vets and then we rehomed her.
She is now a very happy farm cat (who lives on our farm and is happy to leave should she want!) and has the perfect life. 50 safe acres to roam- several barns that she has access to. She even has her own cat hole to access our livery tea room, complete with couches that she sleeps on.
She spends most of her time in summer stretched on her back sunbathing on the yard!
I don’t think she’d go back to her stray days if given the choice!!

wizzywig · 28/06/2025 22:08

My ones:

If you breastfeed then don't moan that feeding falls onto you. Bottle feeding means your child can be fed by anyone.

Not married ? Give the child your surname.

Sometimes children are evil and utter shits. Could be their upbringing, a mental health condition, but kicking them out could be the making of them. Why would they change if they don't need to.

Sometimes if you refuse to have sex with your partner, then why would you be surprised if they have an affair? Don't we all want attention sometimes?

Sahm's once kids are in high school (unless there is sen): pure lazy. Where's your pride? You're happy to put that much financial burden on your partner?

Negroany · 28/06/2025 22:08

Asunciondeflata · 28/06/2025 22:00

Yes, I think it's easy for people to want to ban this without having gone through the pain of infertility themselves.

You have no idea if the people (more than one) who posted this have faced fertility issues. One person has said they did and still agree with it.

Also, noone said IVF would be "banned", just not NHS funded.

I would also not fund any "gender reassignment", but I didn't bother to post that because I don't think it's generally an unpopular opinion!

User868473 · 28/06/2025 22:01

Most women "fail" breastfeeding because they can't be bothered to feed every 2 hours, 24 hours a day, weeks on end. It's the most physically and mentally gruelling activity a human could go through. Most mums decide to sleep when they get too tired and then blame it on low supply. You can't establish a supply if you're not awake and feeding around the clock.

Absolute villains

Nccih · 28/06/2025 22:08

Agree about SAHM’s once your child is school age. You’re just unemployed.

ByGreyTiger · 28/06/2025 22:09

Way too much focus on mental health in society. Paradoxically, it’s bad for mental health.

Hamas is evil. At the same time, Israel is committing war crimes. Israel has a right to exist. A Palestinian life is worth exactly the same as an Israeli life. Iran is run by a terrible regime. Netanyahu’s government is filled with racist war mongers. Taking hostages is a crime. Blocking aid and starving an entire population is a crime.

I really struggle to understand why perfectly intelligent people aren’t capable of holding all of those facts (to me they’re facts, indisputable) at the same time.

Dogaredabomb · 28/06/2025 22:09

That people should not have children after they are 35, it's too old.

Insidenumbernineteen · 28/06/2025 22:09

IfYouPutASausageInItItsNotAViennetta · 28/06/2025 22:00

Would you also say the same about much younger adults who are suffering from terminal illnesses - that they've already had most of their lives and so should have their rights to vote taken away, along with everything else that they've lost?

Yes.

Women don’t have penises. Ever.

Right but if you cut them off... So you mean sex can't be changed. Ever

Gets them more ready for working life & helps more with childcare for parents is my reasoning on that one

Yes. 9-3 is ridiculously short. I grew up abroad and my senior school day was 8-17.30 or even 8-18.30 some days.
We were not hard done by.

I cannot fathom why the British school day is so short. It's completely dysfunctional for working parents and the children have way too much free time to spend in front of screens or loitering.

I was 35 and 37? What’s the problem exactly?

Beesandhoney123 · 28/06/2025 22:10

All kids should be put in by their school for the 11plus. Not just the ones with parents who put their names down by the deadline. What about the smart kids without parents who know what to do.

It should just be the exam before secondary, curriculum teaches for it. Everyone takes it. It shouldn't need hot housing and tutors. It's either too hard or kids aren't being taught the subjects.

Hillsmakeyoustrong · 28/06/2025 22:10

That adoptive parents are not seen as their child's "real" parent by a large section of society. That families made through adoption are less valid. As an adoptive mum, I've lost track of the amount of times I've been asked who my kid's "real" parent is.

Did I say I would confront or harass them?

The breastfeeding bullies I’ve known love to drone on about breastfeeding & have admitted they like to be challenged about it in public 🤷🏼‍♀️

Just my opinions!

BlueyNeedsToFuckOff · 28/06/2025 21:35

I’m genuinely interested in what you think the alternative should be if there are people who pose a risk to public safety - serial killers, rapists etc.

There will always be people who cannot be rehabilitated back into society - so there would have to to be facilities for those types of criminals.

But the majority of the prison population are not murderers or rapists (how many rapists are actually being prosecuted and incarcerated in the first place?)

So putting murderers and rapists aside, punitive justice does not work - prisons don’t rehabilitate, they are traumatic and are actually more likely to lead to reoffending.

Society needs to tackle the root causes of offending - the correlation between adverse childhood experiences and crime is strong.

Early intervention, community based support programs, community service orders, drug treatment facilities etc would be much better alternatives, and much more effective.

My new controversial opinion is probably that around one sixth of the people on this thread should be allowed nowhere near other human beings.

mrstambourinewoman · 28/06/2025 22:10

Religious education should not be taught in primary schools, and should be a choice in secondary school. Maybe it is a choice in some parts of the UK but not where I am.

Ah I loved a good loiter. Kids dont loiter much anymore.
