What’s the most controversial opinion you hold?

NC28 · 28/06/2025 19:58

Do you want to share any opinions you have that are (or may be) seen as controversial?

Mine are probably around the severity of criminal punishment the courts should be giving out for certain crimes and what kids should do in the event of physical violence from peers. Both subjects can be quite provoking for others.

What are yours?

But what if there aren’t enough 1 bedroom places? Which there aren’t, bidding is double on a one bed compared with a 2 or 3 bed

that depends where you live, i’m in london and one beds have the least waiting time of all properties

Most women "fail" breastfeeding because they can't be bothered to feed every 2 hours, 24 hours a day, weeks on end. It's the most physically and mentally gruelling activity a human could go through. Most mums decide to sleep when they get too tired and then blame it on low supply. You can't establish a supply if you're not awake and feeding around the clock.

Commonsense22 · 28/06/2025 22:01

The ability to follow a vegetarian diet is genetic and hormonal and vegans are delusional in their self-righteousness.
Not to mention some of them suddenly discover at menopause they need meat too...

Like human beings, if a domesticated animal, aka an abandoned and betrayed, or lost "pet", lived outside, in all weather, with inadequate shelter, their lives would be much more challenging, frightening, nowhere near as pleasant, more risky, more dangerous and much, much, shorter.
Anyone who has enjoyed sharing the their home with a "pet" animal of course would not agree with your point of view :)

Yes, all that is true, I don't think very many previously domesticated dogs would live beyond a few months in the wild. Humans and dogs have had a bond for several thousand years because it's mutually beneficial. I don't believe that dogs are the losers in the relationship, they have a much more comfortable life in a loving home than living in a pack in the wild.

There should be a wealth tax on people's assets, like some European countries have (in addition to income tax). That would raise plenty of money so that the government could avoid preying on the disabled and the elderly.
Most livestock farmers couldn't give two hoots about their animals. They're only out there in the fields to make money from.
Too many people are banged up in prison for relatively minor crimes.

Wealth taxes are notoriously difficult to implement, to the extent that that rarely raise much money. France have scrapped theirs, for example because it actually cost them money due to capital flight.

Yes, I think it's easy for people to want to ban this without having gone through the pain of infertility themselves.

I'd rather my tax money goes to infertile couples than paying for transwomen to have boob jobs and laser / hair removal on the nhs

Christmas should only happen every 5 years

Maybe every 3 years

That Margaret Thatcher was one of the best Prime Ministers we've ever had.

Oh I’ve a few 🤣

people convicted of rape / abusing kids (where there is zero doubt of innocence) should be used for medical testing.

that faith schools should only accept children who’s families actively practice that faith

you should be absolutely fluent in the language of the country where you live

that it’s ok to love someone & not actually like them, including your own kids

that national service should be brought back

theres nothing wrong with swearing

breastfeeding past 1 is weird, more so when done in public, its like they want the attention/confrontation

all inclusive should be scrapped

senior school hours should be from 9-5

Pretty much yes to all that, except the senior school thing. 9am to 5pm is too long a day IMO. 9 til 3 is long enough IMO.

dannyufcfan · 28/06/2025 22:03

I see no need to watch or listen to the news.

If women were in charge then the world would be a much better and more peaceful place. I know, I know, not all Men, but honestly, women would do a far better job at sorting out global issues, war etc.

Depends on the woman I guess.
Margaret Thatcher liked a war.

My disability is not an illness- should that not receive NHS treatment?
Infertility is a disability in one way - a body's normal function is not working.

I don't have any opinion on your disability, this thread is for unpopular opinions, not for speculating on things you hold no opinion on.

I don't think IVF should be available on the NHS, that's the end of it.

Maybe every 3 years

Every other year would be OK. Every year is too often!

I also think MOTs on cars should be every 2 years too. No need for them to be every year IMO.

BuffetTheDietSlayer · 28/06/2025 22:04

All males should be electronically tagged and placed under a 6pm-7am curfew when they reach the age of 11.

Dappy777 · 28/06/2025 22:04
  • The boatloads of young men who land on our shores are not all refugees “fleeing war and persecution.” The vast majority are economic migrants posing as refugees, others are rootless drifters or even criminals.
  • Mass immigration is not always, automatically a good thing. Some immigrants really do enrich a country (T S Eliot and Henry James were immigrants, after all). Others do not.
  • Some people should be discouraged from having children. It is ridiculous that we allow violent, ignorant, abusive people, whose children have had to be taken into care, to have even more. Society pays a terrible price when vicious, feral people have children. In general they raise them to be vicious and feral like themselves. We stop abusive people from keeping animals (quite rightly), yet we allow them to have and raise children. Madness.
Jujujudo · 28/06/2025 22:04

Jumpthewaves · 28/06/2025 21:51

To be fair, the same should be done with abusive women and men shouldn't be embarrassed to seek help if they are being abused.

What are the statistics on women murdering their male partners through abuse?

Gets them more ready for working life & helps more with childcare for parents is my reasoning on that one

Definitelymaybenoyes · 28/06/2025 22:01

That old people (who don't care for grandchildren or have weekday jobs) should refrain from using cars and supermarkets at weekends.

They operate at a much slower pace and jam up car parks when for most working parents, it's the only time we get to get essentials (like shopping) completed.

Sorry in advance for the offense caused.

I don't really think most people over 80 should be driving at all.

MessageMystery · 28/06/2025 22:05

All people should pay SOMETHING towards their prescriptions and the money put back into NHS. The amount of people who actually pay the £9.90 charge is tiny. And being over 60 shouldn’t entitle ALL people to free prescriptions.

Lioncub2020 · 28/06/2025 22:05

Religion was a way to keep the masses in check. It has no more relevance to the modern world that those choosing to worship Zeus. The "spiritual leaders" who believe they are interpreting "gods" law are no better than the charlatans who pretend they can talk to the dead.

It's always when they're having a boy too. People don't have gender disappointment when it's a girl. (Not in the Western world anyway.)
