What’s the most controversial opinion you hold?

1000 replies

NC28 · 28/06/2025 19:58

Do you want to share any opinions you have that are (or may be) seen as controversial?

Mine are probably around the severity of criminal punishment the courts should be giving out for certain crimes and what kids should do in the event of physical violence from peers. Both subjects can be quite provoking for others.

What are yours?

Would you do that? Honestly? Bear in mind it may well not be anywhere near where you currently live or work. Or any support you may have in place.

But what if there aren’t enough 1 bedroom places? Which there aren’t, bidding is double on a one bed compared with a 2 or 3 bed

That families do not take precedence over people without kids.

Weight loss drugs are cheating*.

*for the people not prescribed them who buy them online.

/ducks

Cheating doesn’t really come in to it for me - the things that bothers me is when people say it’s ’not the easy way out’ when actually, taking away the food noise would make it a lot bloody easier to stick to a healthy diet for me.

absolutely full support to anyone who is on them, I’m bloody jealous I can’t use them to get to my preferred wait, just admit that not craving foods does make it easier. That’s all.

For age reasons. Nobody above state pension age should vote because they’ve had most of their life and should leave the decisions to those with longer to live. Voting age should also be reduced to at least 16 for the same reason.

People can easily live into their 90s now, plenty of life left that will be impacted by government decisions and policies. They have also been around long enough to see political trends come and go, and particular approachs tried and failed. Unlike 16yo, who I teach and have, with very rare exceptions, not the scoobiest idea of how the economy works, what global political diplomacy involves, historical causes of current situations, what the impact of some proposed policies would be. I know Brexit is the obvious example to counter what I've said, but given the blatant and eye wateringly brazen lying that went on in that campaign, it's hardly surprising people voted for it. Its also fair to say that lots of 18+ are staggeringly ignorant about who and what they vote for but short if an iq test at the polling station, we're stuck with that. Let's not make it worse.

Can’t they be castrated instead?

That I'm sick of hearing about wars around the world. They can blow each other away for all I care.

How fortunate for you that you aren’t the one being ‘blown away’ hey?

whengodwasarabbit1 · 28/06/2025 21:57

If women were in charge then the world would be a much better and more peaceful place. I know, I know, not all Men, but honestly, women would do a far better job at sorting out global issues, war etc.

Women in abusive relationships need to take responsibility for themselves and GTFO specially when kids are involved.

I know it's not easy to leave. I liken it to drug addiction. But no one would ever say don't tell a drug addict not to try and quit that's victim blaming.

Edited

I agree. But I don’t at the same time. Some abusers are extremely manipulative and some victims are utterly terrified. Women prefer to stay in order for their children to never be alone with their father (custody/visitation). It can be very hard to prove that the father is dangerous until he actual does something dangerous. Leaving isn’t always an option financially, isn’t always safe, and doesn’t necessary protect the kids.

We should stop young adult, male asylum seekers entering the country and prioritise women and children (proven to be children by medical assessment) asylum seekers.
We don’t need thousands of undocumented men.

We should also be allowed to ask questions about why so many people are fleeing a country like France in fear for their lives.

OK, they want to come to the UK, for whatever personal reasons; but they are no longer genuine asylum seekers.

There was a furore some months back where Ireland was complaining about the number of people who fled genuinely deprived/poor/war-torn/dangerous countries and came to the UK, only to then carry on into Ireland.

Apparently, we were the baddies for not making them stay in safety in the UK and 'sending' them on to another safe country; yet apparently, we're also the baddies for objecting when France does the exact same thing.

That severe/profound autism should havea completely separate diagnosis to general autism (again).

As an autisic woman, with autistic children, I agree. We are without learning disabilities, we’re all cognitively able, academic people who are able to speak and can (me) and will in future (children) be capable of living independent and fulfilling lives, working, travelling, etc.

We’re autistic. We have a neurodevelopmental disability that impacts us and our skills, daily. We each absolutely have support needs, challenges and difficulties that neurotypical people do not have that can be immensely hard.

Our support needs are not however in any way comparable with those who need and will need life long care, those who will never be able to live independently, never be able to communicate, never be able to obtain an education. I work with families who have children with varying levels of need.

It is insulting to those people and those who care for them to stick us all under one banner of ‘autistic people’ and assume that one diagnosis covers it all. It just doesn’t.

That unless there is abuse in a marriage (including cheating as that is emotional abuse) that parents should do their best to stay together. It is too devastating to the children, both the split and then having to play second fiddle to a new partner/stepdc after.

Just 'feeling unhappy' when there is no defined reason can often successfully resolve over time and with effort from both sides.

What if one of the couple decides unilaterally that they no longer want to have sex. Should the other spouse stay in enforced celibacy?

Oh I’ve a few 🤣

people convicted of rape / abusing kids (where there is zero doubt of innocence) should be used for medical testing.

that faith schools should only accept children who’s families actively practice that faith

you should be absolutely fluent in the language of the country where you live

that it’s ok to love someone & not actually like them, including your own kids

that national service should be brought back

theres nothing wrong with swearing

breastfeeding past 1 is weird, more so when done in public, its like they want the attention/confrontation

all inclusive should be scrapped

senior school hours should be from 9-5

Veganism is the way. I am not yet one - I have been vegetarian for decades, consume minimal (organic) dairy and occasional organic eggs, but am certain vegans are more ethical and decent than me. People who eat meat without thinking about where it came from are bad people.

Nowimhereandimlost · 28/06/2025 22:00

Would you also say the same about much younger adults who are suffering from terminal illnesses - that they've already had most of their lives and so should have their rights to vote taken away, along with everything else that they've lost?

TwigletsAndRadishes · 28/06/2025 22:00

Women don't have penises. The definition of a woman is someone with a vagina and breasts and female reproductive organs.

Some people should have their children removed and adopted from birth instead of the poor kids languishing in the care system for years while the mother is given chance after chance to function properly and endless legal appeals against adoption are made.

Migrants on small boats should be intercepted at sea and taken to floating processing/detention centres and only transferred to British soil once their claim for asylum is successful.

Babies should be weaned earlier than six months. Breast feeding should stop once babies are fully weaned onto solids and can walk/talk.

People leave it far too late to potty train their children these days.

Israel is not committing genocide.

The Autism spectrum is far too broad and to label all the people on the spectrum currently with the same diagnosis is like me claiming I am on the blindness spectrum because I wear reading glasses and expecting to be treated the same as a blind person.

The NHS is mostly shit and no longer fit for purpose.

Themaghag · 28/06/2025 21:49

I believe that any man who is charged with any level of domestic abuse should be sent to an internment camp and that the word 'abuser' should be tattooed on his forehead.. He would be allowed to work but all of his wages, except for the modest amount required for him to live a spartan existence in the internment camp, would be given to his family to cover their living expenses. The worst offenders should also be castrated. If this was common practice women would find it much easier to leave the bastards without having to disadvantage either themselves or their children.

Speaking as a victim of abuse - perpetrators should be put down.

My disability is not an illness- should that not receive NHS treatment?
Infertility is a disability in one way - a body's normal function is not working.

Yes, I think it's easy for people to want to ban this without having gone through the pain of infertility themselves.

Tapoopoo · 28/06/2025 22:01

That people over a certain age should not be allowed to vote on things like Brexit. If you're going to be dead by the time it makes a difference, you dont get a say.

The people should be made to use their savings / sell their house etc to pay for care.

That home ownership isnt the be all and end all. HOWEVER there does need to be more affordable rent and renting needs to be secure for the tenants.

Every man I have ever met who says it's his favourite film has been an insufferable twat who mansplains everything. No idea why, but it's just something I've noticed over many years, and my theory hasn't been proved wrong yet.

Never met a woman who says its her favourite film so I couldn't comment on that.

I really enjoyed it. I have watched it a few times. I don’t know if it is my favourite but it is up there. I am female and I generally don’t like violence.

Definitelymaybenoyes · 28/06/2025 22:01

That old people (who don't care for grandchildren or have weekday jobs) should refrain from using cars and supermarkets at weekends.

They operate at a much slower pace and jam up car parks when for most working parents, it's the only time we get to get essentials (like shopping) completed.

Sorry in advance for the offense caused.
