What’s the most controversial opinion you hold?

NC28 · 28/06/2025 19:58

Do you want to share any opinions you have that are (or may be) seen as controversial?

Mine are probably around the severity of criminal punishment the courts should be giving out for certain crimes and what kids should do in the event of physical violence from peers. Both subjects can be quite provoking for others.

What are yours?

The Rwanda Policy should be launched but with the small edit for each boat person that arrives, a long term unemployed brit would be sent to Rwanda.

Bloody hell. I don’t think I’d admit that even under a name change!

My mind is boggling as to what this could have been!

LancashireButterPie · 28/06/2025 21:47

A lot of medicine is dangerous.

Drs (not individually but as a profession) are causing a lot of problems with elderly people eg polypharmacy leading to falls or prescribing dementia medication when actually the evidence for it working is very patchy. Cognitive stimulation therapy works better.
They are also still over prescribing antibiotics leading to resistance and psych medication when actually wellbeing initiatives and talking therapies would be so much more effective.

I don't think I have any truly unpopular opinions. I am somewhat left-wing, which is sometimes unpopular (we are all entitled to our own opinions, of course).

My weird opinion is that I'd never want to share a bed with anyone, even if I were married to them. I hate it. I hate having someone breathing on me and occupying my space.

I also can’t share a bed with anyone (apart from a cat!). I find the smell, breathing and heat of another human too much.
I’ve always made partners sleep separately. I’m now happily single!

ResidentPorker · 28/06/2025 21:47

Oh yes - and if your child is ND, it doesn’t excuse you from actually parenting them and teaching them how to behave in public.

BlueEyedBogWitch · 28/06/2025 19:59

Women don’t have penises. Ever.

I'm sure most people actually agree with that, so it's rather controversial to say it's "controversial".

@dynamiccactus

This was the post I was thinking about when I asked my original question about bf. Is that sufficient to prove that I can read?

@theunbreakablecleopatrajones this is the post I was originally referring to. Not beyond babyhood (though I see nothing wrong with breastfeeding a toddler either).

It seems that just the act of defending bf beyond 6 months is controversial in itself 🙄

I do know a lot about it and I eat a lot of vegan food. My 9 year old daughter has been a militant vegan for a few months. Her teenage siblings still eat meat, as do her dad and I, but our meals are largely plant-based now because I don’t want to cook separate meals. I know the reason people react to vegans with such hostility is because they know they’re right, and I’m moving in the right direction. But cheese, though…

Wow, well done to your daughter - I wish I'd been as fab at that age 😁

Good luck on your journey!

But literally everyone can claim to “non-binary”

And many of us think non-binary isn't really a thing. You are a man or a women.

Themaghag · 28/06/2025 21:49

IDontHateRainbows · 28/06/2025 20:25

Women in abusive relationships need to take responsibility for themselves and GTFO specially when kids are involved.

I know it's not easy to leave. I liken it to drug addiction. But no one would ever say don't tell a drug addict not to try and quit that's victim blaming.

Edited

I believe that any man who is charged with any level of domestic abuse should be sent to an internment camp and that the word 'abuser' should be tattooed on his forehead.. He would be allowed to work but all of his wages, except for the modest amount required for him to live a spartan existence in the internment camp, would be given to his family to cover their living expenses. The worst offenders should also be castrated. If this was common practice women would find it much easier to leave the bastards without having to disadvantage either themselves or their children.

FluffykinsTheFerociousFeralFelineFury · 28/06/2025 21:49

Medical science has done more harm than good by prolonging life without doing anything to improve the quality of life.

Sayshesheshe · 28/06/2025 21:49

Non altruistic surrogacy should be illegal. I’ve seen a few gay couples with significant followers on instagram announcing their new babies recently where it’s clear it’s surrogacy and it makes me so uncomfortable with all the other comments congratulating them.

I never had this view until I had a child and I’m all for gay couples having babies - I think they should pursue adoption as the route rather than commissioning a baby.

NC28 · 28/06/2025 21:50

I don’t give one shit what a child’s behavioural issues/family trauma/diagnoses/suspected issues etc etc are. If they ever put their hands on my child in order to hurt them, I will ensure my child has my blessing to punch their face in.

Will die on this particular hill.

I agree - I don't think pet ownership is right (though I realise cats tend to adopt their owners rather than the other way round).

I think people who park their cars/vans on pavements should have their cars crushed.

On the breastfeeding I think you stop when your child gets teeth - at the latest.

Also agree about the planet - it won't suffer if humans die out. We are just a bink in the eye of the world's history.

Mine had teeth at 3 months old so I'm not sure that's the rule to go by 🤣

I like Tattle Life and think it has brought a lot of benefits in highlighting the lies and deceit that influencers use solely to generate money for themselves.

IceColdFanta · 28/06/2025 20:19

I judge women that have kids with more than one man sorry but I just can’t help it! You don’t have to have kids with everyone you meet.

This is so odd because step families/blended families are an incredibly common set up in society. Nothing wrong with a person who becomes a single parent and then goes on to marry and have children with a new partner 🤷🏼‍♀️

Elseaknows · 28/06/2025 21:50

Men (and women) who don't pay for their children should face harsher punishment. If it continues and they are unable to pay whilst continuing to have multiple children with other partners they should be sterilised.

Society is very quick to judge mothers with multiple children to multiple men, but my real problem is with the men who walk away from their children without a care in the world, to then procreate with more women. (My best friends ex has SEVEN children to three women and pays fuck all!) 😡

Insidenumbernineteen · 28/06/2025 21:42

For age reasons. Nobody above state pension age should vote because they’ve had most of their life and should leave the decisions to those with longer to live. Voting age should also be reduced to at least 16 for the same reason.

People over state pension age are much more likely to vote that people in the youngest age group. Encouraging younger people to vote would be a much healthier and fairer way to level the playing field.

DCIRozHuntley · 28/06/2025 21:51

If you have children, you owe it to them to stay together even if you're "not happy".

Being actively unhappy is different; of course abuse of any sort including the emotional abuse which nearly always accompanies cheating (lying, gaslighting etc) is different too.

If a parent moves a new partner into the home it should automatically place the child on the Child in Need register for a period of 3 years.

To be fair, the same should be done with abusive women and men shouldn't be embarrassed to seek help if they are being abused.

There should be a requirement for every employer to employ a % of people from marginalised/under represented parts of the population.

  • Disabled
  • Women
  • Over 60 (now we have to work to 70ish but no one wants to employ them)
  • All ethnicities
  • Non binary
-

i couldn’t disagree more.

the best person for the job should get it. Irrespective of age, sex, ethnicity etc.

maddiemookins16mum · 28/06/2025 21:52

Co-sleeping is dangerous. Think about it, two (or even one) fully grown adult/s in a bed with an infant makes no sense.
