What’s the most controversial opinion you hold?

NC28 · 28/06/2025 19:58

Do you want to share any opinions you have that are (or may be) seen as controversial?

Mine are probably around the severity of criminal punishment the courts should be giving out for certain crimes and what kids should do in the event of physical violence from peers. Both subjects can be quite provoking for others.

What are yours?

Well, if a full-time SAHM (or SAHD) is not doing an actual job, how can you say that somebody caring for their children on their behalf whilst they are at work is any more doing a job?

SO you only believe that an important ongoing task to which you've committed is a job if you're paid for it, then?

So nobody who volunteers unpaid for a charity is doing an actual job - even if they volunteer full-time? I presume, if it all comes down to money by your logic, you must also believe that everybody who earns a lot of money is doing a far better or more important job than somebody on minimum wage? Even if it's a YouTube 'influencer' as opposed to somebody who works in a care home?

On average, men earn considerably more money than women, so I guess they must all do more important jobs than women do, then?

Interested to know why @Insidenumbernineteen thinks pensioners shouldn't have the vote.

Do you mean those receiving state pensions? Those over a certain age or just anyone who has retired?

For age reasons. Nobody above state pension age should vote because they’ve had most of their life and should leave the decisions to those with longer to live. Voting age should also be reduced to at least 16 for the same reason.

That not everyone who claims to have ADHD actually does have it and it’s causing a shortage of stimulant medication that is impacting those who need it to function

Yes to this too. ^

I find people breastfeeding past the age of 6 months unnecessary.
People get very annoyed by that one!

@dynamiccactus

This was the post I was thinking about when I asked my original question about bf. Is that sufficient to prove that I can read?

Some ebf baby's wont take a bottle or formula if only ebf for 6 months (from experience)

After800Years · 28/06/2025 21:43

There’s way too many people with ADHD now. Most people I think can tick traits on the list quite easily but it doesn’t mean they have ADHD. It’s over diagnosed or worse self-diagnosed.

There are an astonishing number of young adults lacking any kind of resilience. We can blame lockdowns etc but way too few of them actually seek any kind of help or try to better themselves.

Lots of overweight people are completely in denial about it. It’s also most likely self inflicted rather than ‘medical.’ They also don’t want to acknowledge that a lot of their health issues are because they are overweight and they’d see these issues improve if they lost weight.

BarilynBordeaux · 28/06/2025 21:43

All stripes of fundamentalist religion that treat women as birthing slaves, LGBT people as filthy, animals like they can’t feel pain etc, should be banned and treated like the misogynistic death cults they are, you should be on a list, like belonging to an extremist political party.

Tandora · 28/06/2025 21:43

god this thread is scary. With a small minority of exceptions.

Problem is, many people under 22-23 know jack-shit about real life, politics, economics, and life in general. 16 year olds getting the vote is laughable. If anything the voting age should be raised to 21.

Reported. That's going too far.

  • schools are in fact and should be childcare as well as education, wrap around care should be part of standard provision for all children, and having hours that don't match the vast majority of people's work hours is ridiculous
  • people should have to move out of social housing when they can afford to rent in the private market - there are so many people
that need housing and houses that are being blocked by people who don't need them
RedRec · 28/06/2025 21:44

I don't agree with the feverish advocacy for late abortions.

There's something off about (Saint) Kevin Sinfield.

I don't want to hear another word about the frigging Post Office scandal.

takesome88 · 28/06/2025 21:44

Nurseries aren’t ideal for children under 2.5.

Nccih · 28/06/2025 21:44

Ooh I have quite a few.

  1. Parents overdiagnose their kids with ADHD and then blame every shitty thing their kid does on that, expecting the world to make excuses for the child but making no effort to teach their child how to behave in the world.
  2. Cliquey mums in the playground can be worse than the children.
  3. Sharing your dog with your ex is weird when you hate each other. A pet isn’t worth keeping an asshole in your life, let it go.
  4. Middle class kids can be the worst bullies but it’s only ever acceptable to call out the chavvy ones.
  5. sometimes it IS better for your kids for you to stay in an unhappy relationship (unless violance)
  6. there is no such thing as a happy blended family. There will always be resentment or deep feelings underneath somewhere.
TheAmusedQuail · 28/06/2025 21:45

There should be a requirement for every employer to employ a % of people from marginalised/under represented parts of the population.

  • Disabled
  • Women
  • Over 60 (now we have to work to 70ish but no one wants to employ them)
  • All ethnicities
  • Non binary

Many people of all ages know Jack shit about that kind of thing. It’s not relevant to my point which is that people with less time left shouldn’t vote.

anonymous98 · 28/06/2025 21:45

I don't think I have any truly unpopular opinions. I am somewhat left-wing, which is sometimes unpopular (we are all entitled to our own opinions, of course).

My weird opinion is that I'd never want to share a bed with anyone, even if I were married to them. I hate it. I hate having someone breathing on me and occupying my space.

Cetim · 28/06/2025 21:46

All drugs should be legalised and regulated. This would lift many countries in the southern hemisphere out of poverty and stop the surge of violence in the drugs world.

ResidentPorker · 28/06/2025 21:46

No one needs more than two children.

Humans dying out is a good thing.

Anyone who votes Reform is racist and economically illiterate.

If you hurt a child, an elderly person, a disabled person, or an animal, you should be hurt in the same way.

I agree. Just look at the recent thread on here where the poster resented being asked to provide details and didn't want to spend 30 hours per week job hunting. Miraculously cut to just 5 hours per week during the thread ie 1 hour per working day. Not a hint that they wouldn't claim state benefits though. That needs to be stopped now. I am so angry about that - i don't dare post.

If you don't dare post on that thread why are you talking about another poster behind their back?
