What’s the most controversial opinion you hold?

1000 replies

NC28 · 28/06/2025 19:58

Do you want to share any opinions you have that are (or may be) seen as controversial?

Mine are probably around the severity of criminal punishment the courts should be giving out for certain crimes and what kids should do in the event of physical violence from peers. Both subjects can be quite provoking for others.

What are yours?

Balaclavas and face coverings should be banned. I’m sick of seeing these feral youth with their faces hidden behaving like rabble, shoplifting, smoking weed and generally being a menace. Go and get a job and do something useful for society - though I doubt that thought has even crossed their minds. God knows what kind of upbringing they’ve had. Grim.

That there are far worse things than smoking cigarettes.

That prostitution should be legalised.

It’s not illegal

I can deal with most of the controversial views on this post except this. Now wash your mouth out please.

🤣🤣

Outside9 · 28/06/2025 21:37

Feels like this is bait to get banned.

So i guess a lot of my controversial views are bannable takes.

That they should restrict flying so people can only fly twice a year (once but return) unless they have family in other countries

That men have to put up with as much from women as we do from them

that koala bears are scary looking

Please look up going meat-free. You already understand the importance of it, and going meat-free is easier nowadays than you might think.

I do know a lot about it and I eat a lot of vegan food. My 9 year old daughter has been a militant vegan for a few months. Her teenage siblings still eat meat, as do her dad and I, but our meals are largely plant-based now because I don’t want to cook separate meals. I know the reason people react to vegans with such hostility is because they know they’re right, and I’m moving in the right direction. But cheese, though…

You mean like it used to be - Classic (Kanners) autism and Aspergers?

No, back then the criteria for both dx were much more limited than the current criteria for an autism dx. Currently autism is an umbrella dx.

Tbh I don't really care how the rest of the spectrum is split or not, I just want those with severe/profound to have a completely separate dx. They need it for support, representation and understanding of how they present.

Me too. I'd go further allocate an island in the UK to deport UK criminals to as well.

👏👏👏

There is another thread running about ‘who to vote for in the next election’

you have my vote 🫡

I’m genuinely interested in what you think the alternative should be if there are people who pose a risk to public safety - serial killers, rapists etc.

Tags would do for me, the sort that sound an alarm if you go outside when you shouldn’t - you get one hour per week to do your food shopping and you pay for it yourself

Having a pet animal living with you in your home is weird. I love animals, I really do, but I believe they should live outdoors. I’ve never met anyone who agrees.

I agree! Love all animals, would never want to see one come to harm but also find pet ownership and the relationships between some humans and their pets absolutely baffling

Women in abusive relationships need to take responsibility for themselves and GTFO specially when kids are involved.

I know it's not easy to leave. I liken it to drug addiction. But no one would ever say don't tell a drug addict not to try and quit that's victim blaming.

Edited

Women in abusive relationships are doing their best to survive. They live in fear and are often totally manipulated into believing that their abuser is right and they are wrong.
Leaving is the most dangerous time for them.
Women who leave abusive relationships are absolute heroes and shouldn't be blamed for not leaving sooner. They are brave, strong and courageous.
It's SO easy to say women should just leave but it's so much harder than that when it's your life. I say this as someone who left an abusive relationship. It was the hardest and scariest thing I've ever done. I won't be blamed for not leaving sooner by someone who has no idea what my life was like.

The pp said BEYOND BABYHOOD.

Is anyone actually reading the posts properly this evening?

OK, I wasn't replying to any particular post. The post i quoted was about God, as you would see if you read it. There was someone early on on this thread who said they found it weird to bf beyond 6 months. I don't know which pp you're referring to, but obviously a different one.

Yes, I'm perfectly capable of reading.

If you don't want to engage in a discussion about this why did you reply? If you do reply can you be civil, and refrain from completely unwarranted personal attacks?

ConstantlyFuriosa · 28/06/2025 21:39

People who say the unemployed - with particular emphasis on the disabled - should be ‘helped’ into work and not just ‘given benefits’ should remember that a) there aren’t enough jobs to go around and b) even if there were, many employers don’t want to employ disabled people anyway.

burneraccount15 · 28/06/2025 21:40

Annual leave should be at least 35 days a year plus bank holidays. The general offerings are not enough for the relentless pace of modern life.

Kirbert2 · 28/06/2025 21:40

MayaPinion · 28/06/2025 21:20

I have a few:

The NHS should be about saving lives where it makes sense to do so, managing pain, and ensuring people can remain well enough to work/study. Our expectations are too high. I think things like fertility treatment, keeping people alive through artificial means, operating on people where there’s a poor prognosis, etc. should be paid for services.

A biological male cannot be a woman. I cannot believe that anyone seriously believes it. There would be outcry if I, a pale white, freckled, Irish woman, decided I was black and started appropriating black spaces and culture. I don’t, and can never have that lived experience. It’s not mine to take, and it’s insulting and reductive. You can’t just decide to be something you’re not.

For many people in a relationship sex is important. Sometimes people on here say that it’s not a need. It’s not oxygen or food or water, so your loved one can get along perfectly well without it. Perhaps, but good sex is like listening to music you love, or a glass of delicious champagne, or watching a great movie, or eating your favourite food. It’s one of the things that can make life rich, enjoyable, and precious. I am not saying for one minute that anyone should ever have sex they don’t want, but I am saying rather than unilaterally deciding you’re done with it, explore ways to get your libido back. Time and again on here we read of husbands having affairs, and then it transpires the couple haven’t had sex for two years. At that point, whether you like or not, you’re housemates. That’s a long way of saying that if you want to stop having sex with your partner make sure you both wholeheartedly agree to it.

I'm incredibly grateful that my son was operated on when his prognosis was very poor. He did survive against all of the odds but if I had to pay, he wouldn't be here today because there's no way I could've afforded it.

Or would there be an exception for children? Would it only apply to adults?

JLou08 · 28/06/2025 21:35

Personality disorders aren't mental health conditions. It's in the title. The person has a shit personality but we somehow medicalised it and took away the person's responsibility to work through their trauma and treat others with respect. Narcissistic personality in particular is just another name for abusive arsehole.

I really do not think this is fair.

Having a difficult personality is not the same as having a diagnosable disorder, such as borderline personality disorder, which affects emotional regulation and puts a person at heightened risk of suicide and self-harming. Of course, it's fair to criticise the BPD label (disproportionately given to women; overlaps with autism symptoms etc.)

I agree. I think pet ownership is a weird concept that often doesn’t do the animal any favours.

ConstantlyFuriosa · 28/06/2025 21:40

People who smoke weed in built up areas, particularly when wearing a loud shirt, should be lined up and shot.

scritter · 28/06/2025 21:41

All countries should be run by women only for the next 20 years.

The royal family would be released into the wild, wished well, and waved a cheery goodbye.

Paracetamol should never be prescribed. Buy it yourself. Literal pennies.

I think that lots of dogs, especially those who live in rural or coastal locations with active, outdoorsy people have the best lives it's possible for an animal to lead and that in fact, many humans have worse lives.

And if they keep breaking their curfew or murder someone or rape someone while they’re out shopping? Then what?
