DDs birthday is coming up. She's going to be 19.

She's asked for a CD player. What 1 iconic album should I get?

I'm thinking Jagged Little Pill or What's the story?

What would you get?

Why not get a album from the year she was born?
Artic Monkeys Whatever People say I am I'm Not
Amy Winehouse Back to Black

Great idea - birth year
and Amy Whitehouse

Fat of the Land - Prodigy

This was my first album at the age of 12. Still fucking great.

Fleetwood Mac “Rumors”

Came here to say this.

It will forever be my favourite album ever to exist. DH makes jokes that he needs to buy several more copies on vinyl because the one I have gets played so often I’m going to kill it 🫠😂

TutTutTutSigh · 27/06/2025 20:13

Plan B - The Defamation of Strickland Banks is a story meant to be listened to in order, perfect for CD.

Enko · 27/06/2025 20:28

Trying to add some others but I agree re Rumours

Deja-vu crossby stills and Nash

Trio. Dolly Parton

Enko · 27/06/2025 20:31

Songbird by Eva Cassidy

greenbuckets · 27/06/2025 20:34

Ooh some great choices here.
I was thinking Nevermind, Graceland or Club Classics by Soul II Soul

PollyCreo · 27/06/2025 20:35

Woodface - Crowded House
Reverance - Faithless
Parklife - Blur

Englishsummerrain · 27/06/2025 20:36

Keane - Hopes and Fears.

littleburn · 27/06/2025 20:39

Purple Rain. Not a duff track on it.

ParmaViolletts · 27/06/2025 20:43

Classic is older?

Ziggy stardust and the spiders from mars

David Bowie low

David Bowie young americans

Sargent pepper

Dark side of the moon if nothing else get her this it's so unique

Blonde parrell lines

And has to be a rolling stones album in there... Perhaps sticky fingers or the one with sweet Virginia on it

PotatoBreadForTheWin · 27/06/2025 20:46

I’d pick one from the year she was born, which sounds like 2006?

cracking albums from 2006:

Whatever people say j am - arctic monkeys
back to black- Amy winehouse
Inside in/inside out - the kooks (not iconic but one of my favourites)
Standing in the Way of Control - Gossip

Absentmindedsmile · 27/06/2025 20:55

The Cranberries - Everybody else is doing it so why can’t we

Simon and Garfunkel - Bridge over troubled water

Eurythmics - Be yourself tonight

The Beatles - Abbey Road (the iconic cover and the songs)

ParmaViolletts · 27/06/2025 20:56

I have to say I disagree I think a foundation in the classics trumps albums from the birth year I mean Amy loved the old classics

BabyBump1212 · 27/06/2025 20:56

Purple rain by Prince
No jacket required, Phil Collins
Hounds of Love,Kate Bush

Brothers In Arms

My first thought also. I seem to recall it was the first really big album on CD.

Middlemarch123 · 27/06/2025 20:59

Rumours is iconic,on my list of best albums ever.
Listen without Prejudice by George Michael, possibly tops it for me. That voice, those lyrics. Lucky enough to see both live, Fleetwood Mac were so disappointing, GM was awesome.
I also love Back to Black by Amy Winehouse. But, yeah it would be George for me.

TooBigForMyBoots · 27/06/2025 21:01

Little Earthquakes by Tori Amos.
Everything Must Go or Generation Terrorist by Manic Street Preachers.

Turmerictolly · 27/06/2025 21:15

Would also recommend ‘ The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’
Ziggy Stardust - Bowie
Nick Drake - Can’t remember the name of the album unfortunately but I was really into him at 19.
White Stripes
Adam and the Ants - Kings of the Wild Frontier
Smashing Pumpkins - has the strawberry heart on the front, can’t remember the name
The Clash - London Calling
Oasis What’s the Story
Any Blur album
Bob Dylan - earlier stuff
Carole King Tapestry
Joni Mitchell - Blue
Grace Jones - Best of
