What food or drink do you consume an inordinate amount of?

For me, its spinach. I eat it raw with every meal. I can easily get through 1kg a week by myself 😮

For DP, its tinned fish. He has it every day for lunch. He treats himself to fancy ones which is currently costing us about £150 a month 😮

What about you?

Kimchi and oats, have them both at least once a day, often twice.

isitmeamithedrama · 25/06/2025 13:08

Irn bru. It’s ridiculous I try to limit myself to one can a day but I can have up to 4! I need to just quit it, I only drink the full sugar one, but it’s just so damn good

Tea, tea and tea.

The Vimto triangle ice-lollies. I could eat 3 in one go. They’re 52 calories each 😳 I’m addicted to them and I actually feel sad when they’re all gone 😂

@FurForksSake Mercury poisoning is only a risk from certain fishes so he's fine on that score. I mean, seven tins of fish a week is probably doing some other weird shit to his innards but we're a-ok on the mercury front 😂

OP is it Rio Mare tuna? Im a recent convert.

For me I can’t stay away from the kimchi and medjool dates.

Among others its Nuri sardines and Diplomat herring in teriyaki sauce.

I'll take a look at Rio Mare.

Another squash habit here! Pleased to see there are a lot of us. If we run out (which is rare) and I don’t realise till late I will leave the house at midnight to go and get some. Bonkers but there are worse things as others have said!

Ecrire · 25/06/2025 13:15

Aubergines! I spend £30-£40 a month on aubergines and my lunches are pretty much a rotation of Indian style aubergines mish mashes, Thai aubergine green curry, Chinese salt and pepper aubergine, or Italian style bakes with tomatoes and mozzarellas.

Jellyslothbridge · 25/06/2025 13:17

If the tinned fish brand is ortiz Costco sell packs of 9 which bring the price down. Not to divert from the topic but once tasted cannot go back!

Lots of tea here. Foods are more seasonal. I like the advice to eat lots of different colours of food. I do like to eat lots of green though including raw spinach.

Would you tell me some recipes? I’m a fellow-aubergine obsessive, but I could use some new approaches — my current default is just stewing with tomatoes and basil, or roasting in slices with a smear of harissa.

Chocolate

nothing compares to it. I crave it and search for it every day.

Same here. I try to limit my intake to 1 or 2 bars a day but it's not easy.

ekk100 · 25/06/2025 13:19

Not me, or even strictly a food, but an ex used to go through a tube of toothpaste a week by himself. I could never fathom if he was just eating it, or had maybe seen the adverts where they squeeze toothpaste along the entire length of the toothbrush head.

SparklingMetre · 25/06/2025 13:23

Decaf tea, virgin olive oil, greek yoghurt, and developing a new Jason’s bread habit..

MsRinky · 25/06/2025 13:23

I don't wish to add to your tinned fish bill, but the Sea Sisters range is to die for...

Goatalone · 25/06/2025 13:24

Greek Yogurt - I’m addicted to the stuff. Only eat it plain. Fage 5% but only when it’s on offer, or Aldi 10%. I’d eat it all day if I could. I’ve limited myself to breakfast only but it’s also my go to when I can’t be arsed to cook.

Comedycook · 25/06/2025 13:24

Orange squash... I get through three bottles a week and I'm the only one in the house who drinks it

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 25/06/2025 13:26

Pepsi Max. Just constantly drinking the stuff.
I'm also quite dependent on Chorizo as an easy way to add flavour to cooking.
I often chuck a few slices in the kids lunch boxes as well

Thedevilwearsprimarni · 25/06/2025 13:26

Anyone else reading all these replies and wondering why I'm the only one with a dairy milk problem, quietly seething that I couldn't also be addicted to a bloody vegetable.

idrinkandiknowthings · 25/06/2025 13:27

Used to be milk. I'd drink gallons of the stuff. I'm now on Mounjaro and hardly drink any. I do drink too much red wine though!

Oceangrey · 25/06/2025 13:27

Also Greek yogurt here and sometimes I add peanut powder or apricot compote.

Got to have dark chocolate in the house.

And coffee, usually just one or two a day but it's a necessity.

raffle · 25/06/2025 13:30

Diet Irn Bru.... drink gallons of the stuff. DH once brought home a supermarket own brand and I considered sending him to live in the shed. Nothing compares to a cold glass of Irn Bru

GloriousBlue · 25/06/2025 13:32

Chocolate every day. A day feels wrong if chocolate isn't consumed.

Coffee also.

The only time I don't want coffee is when I'm ill of pregnant.

Clashofthetitans · 25/06/2025 13:32

Apples.. I do 2 a day 😬

OP I’d get your bloods checked. I craved spinach and would much through bags of the stuff, turned out I was SEVERELY anaemic. Your body is trying to tell you something!

Spinach is a source of iron but contrary to popular belief, not a very good one. It Isn’t actually that high in iron at all - no better than most other dark green veg, really. The persistent myth that spinach is iron-rich comes from a research error back in the 1930s.

So if you were craving spinach, it’s unlikely that had anything to do with the iron content. If your brain ‘knew’ you needed iron, it would have been telling you to crave red meat, liver, nuts, beans and dried apricots, not spinach. The vast majority of breakfast cereals are fortified with iron and are a way better source of it than spinach.

GloriousBlue · 25/06/2025 13:33

@GoataloneI used to hate greek yoghurt until I discovered this brand. It's so bloody good. I find most others too sour.
