What food or drink do you consume an inordinate amount of?

For me, its spinach. I eat it raw with every meal. I can easily get through 1kg a week by myself 😮

For DP, its tinned fish. He has it every day for lunch. He treats himself to fancy ones which is currently costing us about £150 a month 😮

What about you?

I eat two eggs every day but that's not an inordinate amount I wouldn't have thought.

I suppose it's protein... eggs, chicken, fish.steak.

Plus loads of vegetables.

These are (almost) all so healthy! I thought there'd be a lot more sugar monsters.

I used to crave sugar, especially chocolate, like nobody's business, to the point it was really affecting my daily life, and finances, and arse size.

Am on week 4 of zero sugar and low carb, and I feel let out of prison! (slight exaggeration)

I'd recommend it to anyone with the same problem, just a headache for 1.5 days then absoultely no cravings at all for anything, and my hunger grows more slowly. I feel like "ah this is how everyone else feels!"

Tell me
more!

I could easily eat 4 bars a day..family size

sugar is in blooming everything..even crackers..how did you avoid it?

pikkumyy77 · 25/06/2025 17:18

Rice. I eat it for pretty much every dinner and sometimes lunch too.

Jujujudo · 25/06/2025 17:20

Nacoesdoesdim · 25/06/2025 17:22

Burton's salt and vinegar fish and chips snacks
Chicken breast
Shortbread

wwyd2021medicine · 25/06/2025 17:24

@Monchylavender
Findus crispy pancakes are in Iceland

Along with other blast from the past delicacies - artic roll, vienetta, lorne sausage, spam fritters.

Thaawtsom · 25/06/2025 17:28

Chocolate. Dark, dark chocolate. (I used to eat all chocolate but trained myself to eat dark chocolate in order to be healthier but frankly I eat so much of the stuff am not sure that worked).
Giant Wotsits. Not the small ones, no, no. The Giant Ones. The orange yumminess of their crunchy air.
Things I would eat a lot more of if I had more money: raspberries. All the raspberries. Pistachios. Passion fruit. Pomegranate. Parmesan cheese (I can't buy it cos I eat it straight out of the fridge in chunks). Hungry now ...

Melonmango70 · 25/06/2025 17:40

Celery!

TheEveningReport · 25/06/2025 17:46

Coffee and Greek yoghurt. I can’t get enough of Greek yoghurt.

Sourisblanche · 25/06/2025 17:47

I drink a lot of tea, all varieties and lots of cheese, all variations.

HarryVanderspeigle · 25/06/2025 17:47

Sauerkraut, cucumbers, olives, Greek yogert and various cheeses. I especially love haloumi, camembert and feta.

Hahaha are you me? I've gone through stages of being addicted to ALLLL of those except maybe halloumi.

I remember my DH's look of horror when I put a big dollop of sauerkraut next to my lasagne 🤣

Coffee. I don't consume alot actually but its the one thing I can't do without on a daily basis.
Peppermint & Liquorice tea - I drink loads of this.

Also at the moment, raspberries.

I can't do without coffee either, even though with perimenopause it's starting to upset my guts.
I eat too many crisps. Am trying to get on to rice/ancient grain crackers instead. They're nice, but it's not the same.
The tinned-fish thing has also made me look at my lunch habit; I buy lunch out every weekday and, even if I eat modestly (Pret's cheapest sandwich or whatever), that's over £100 a month. I work at home, too, so there's no excuse really, other than that I can't be arsed thinking of things to make, and I find it stressful to think about stopping to prep food when I'm busy.

Bluebrain · 25/06/2025 17:52

Beer most days.

BebbanburgIsMine · 25/06/2025 17:55

Grapes
Pepsi Max Cherry
Irn Bru

Tavimama · 25/06/2025 17:59

Coffee - I have a cup of decaf tea to start my day, but then it's coffee all day long.

bythefireplace · 25/06/2025 17:59

Oh I forgot lemon curd. Mixed with Greek yoghurt and crushed meringue

MisdemeanorOnTheFloor · 25/06/2025 18:02

Jacobs crackers with butter
Blackcurrant squash
Salt and vinegar snack a jacks
Rice Krispies - I could eat them all day long, happily
Edited to add - I am very surprised by all the love greek yoghurt is getting! I need to give it a try again

@Doggielovecharlotte Well I had a head start because I can't eat gluten and I'm quite familiar with a low carb, zero grain diet from recovering from an inflammatory bowel disease (I'm not a doctor and know I can't be recommending this).

However, after recovering I found sugar didn't trigger my illness and I went waaay overboard, probably to compensate for all the sweet foods containing gluten that I can't have.

I felt so controlled by the cravings that I knew something had to be done. I've cut out all sugar, and most carbs except vegetables. It's not for forever but I think I've re-set something inside because random stuff like plain soda water and unsweetened nut milk now tastes slightly sweet to me.

I'll probably bring back everything except gluten over time, but hopefully I've broken some kind of craving cycle.

Tonnes of tinned fish can lead to mercury poisoning can’t it? Might be worth ensuring he is within guidelines!

anyway. Mine is lucozade zero sugar pink lemonade. It’s literally all I drink. I have a fridge in my garage full of it and buy in bulk from Amazon. I can’t imagine what the bin man thinks.

I do not have a diagnosis but I definitely have sensory differences and safe products and drinks. I will panic if I can’t access it.

Tinned tuna can be high in mercury. Tinned sardines and mackerel are fine.
I eat half a tin of mackerel or sardines every day for breakfast normally.

DazedAndConfused321 · 25/06/2025 18:11

Bread (homemade so not as bad in my head...), butter, dark chocolate, bananas and cucumbers. Could be worse I suppose. 1-2 cukes a day, 3-4 bananas, bread and butter with every meal and dark choc in bread and butter...

I have a fast metabolism while BFing so enjoying it while I can!

I drink so much squash. Hot, cold and with sparking water. I order it by the dozen bottles from Mr Fitzpatricks. It’s my little luxury because I don’t drink alcohol.

So many squash lovers here!
Mr Fitzpatricks Blackcurrant and Liquorice cordial
Belvoir Ginger cordial
I have to buy the expensive full sugar ones because everything else has been ruined with sweeteners. Hate the taste. I sometimes give in and buy a bottle of my beloved Vimto.
I'm old (and northern) and remember when my mum used to take me to a temperance bar after school. Barrels of cordials and you could have them hot, cold/still, or fizzy. I loved a fizzy Blood Tonic - nettle and raspberry cordial.

Lots of people. I just haven't taken the time to do it. Usually the empties sell for $1.25 plus per jar. 12 for $15, etc. There are beautiful repurposed. ones on Etsy that are much higher.

I donated the first 50 to my local library for craft sessions. Someone showed me a nightlight they made during one class. I have an art teacher friend that I'm checking with. There are 26 schools in our county, so I may just donate them all.
