How much would you expect to pay for this tattoo?

Im not asking if you like tattoos. If you dont, may I strongly suggest you never get one and move along to another thread.

I know its not to everyone's taste and the good old cliche "bold will hold" etc etc but how much would you expect to pay for something like this?

I'm getting my children's birth flowers (yes another cliche, the thread is full of them) and have been quoted a price. Im happy to pay it because I like the artist's work but a few people have said it's expensive so out of curiosity, how much would you expect to pay for something like this?

Its £1 coin for scale.

ETA - It's my first tattoo so have nothing to compare it to. One of the people who commented has poorly done tattoos so I wouldnt listen to them and the other has well done tattoos but in a different style.

Depends on the artist. That tattoo is very fine detail in a small area that’s a skilled tattoo you want. Really it’s too small and will be blurry in a few years but you do you. A few hundred for sure.

Gizlotsmum · 20/06/2025 07:17

A single tattoo? It’s quite detailed I would say £100-150. But prices are very artist dependant. As long as you like their work and are happy with the price ignore others.

SoScarletItWas · 20/06/2025 07:17

Looks like a couple of hours’ work so £200 or thereabouts.

I agree with roughly £200. There's a lot of detail.

curious79 · 20/06/2025 07:18

I would think for something that’s going to be on you permanently go for the artist you like, and pay up if need be. Getting tattoos is not a commodified service. Where it is commodified it’s generally horrible.

SanFranBear · 20/06/2025 07:19

I think they're beautiful and agree, they're very detailed in places so at least a couple of hours.. perhaps £250?

SanFranBear · 20/06/2025 07:19

And hard agree with @curious79 - if it costs a little more but you know you'll be happy, absolutely worth it!

tumblingdowntherabbithole · 20/06/2025 07:34

About £200.

But please, please research your artist. Fine line tattoos are not easy to get right and they can age really badly if they’re not done properly.

Sickandtiredoflife · 20/06/2025 07:36

Honestly why not just spend the money on your children? Why the need for performative gestures about them?

Toohardtofindaproperusername · 20/06/2025 07:41

I donr know if people are quoting for one tattoo or 3 because on,first glance it's not clear, that they are 3 different tattoos . So maybe the cost is x 3. ? Very detailed and agree re getting it done with someone very skilled

Oh ffs. Because it’s her money and she wants to..?

BuffaloCauliflower · 20/06/2025 07:42

This kind of detailed work done by someone genuinely proficient in it, maybe £300?

supercalifragilistic123 · 20/06/2025 07:46

I wouldn't get it that small, it will only look nice for a few years then the lines will get bigger and it will all smudge together.
Very fine intricate tattoos don't age well.

elm26 · 20/06/2025 07:46

Most artists charge by the hour, if this is the case with your chosen artist, they’ll charge for 1 hour even if you wanted a 2 dots and a smile for a smiley face that takes 5 minutes. Normally around £100 an hour so I think you’d be looking at £200-£250 depending on where you are and what artist you use.

Well yes its her money and her choice but why on earth do it?
What good does it do her children for heavens sake?

ohmondew · 20/06/2025 07:47

My artist would charge about 350 for this, she's the specialist in this style in my area (NI so cheaper than Britain anyway). People saying 100-150 are way off, that wouldn't be far off many artists minimum charge.

It's a genuine question.

And as OP posted on a public forum then people have a right to comment so long as it doesn't break MN guidelines.

PlasticAcrobat · 20/06/2025 07:53

If you want to insult people who have tattoos, @Sickandtiredoflife , start your own thread. It is very disruptive to come onto this thread to do this. Really unfair on the OP.

I don't have any tattoos, OP, but those look really beautiful, agree with others that it would take an artist to do them well, and I would expect to pay quite a lot!

Bore off.

Op I have a lot of ink from various artists, I'd be happy paying around £200.

Don't worry about the comments re: blurring etc. Some of mine are still fresh looking, some a bit faded, I just get them touched up in the odd session here and there 😊

My question was also genuine. The OP asked a specific question about the cost of a tattoo. Your comment was a dig and not at all helpful. Performatively mean in fact. So, genuinely, why the need?

People spend their money on all sorts of things that decorate their body that don't usually benefit their children. £200 on a haircut, make up, shoes, a new dress. Do you have a problem with those?

Sickandtiredoflife · 20/06/2025 07:36

This is so unfair. She doesn't have to spend every spare penny on her children, she is allowed to spend it on herself! And no, the tattoo isn't for the kids, it's for herself, because she wants something she considers beautiful on her body which will remind her of her children when she looks at it. The fact that it's not to your taste is irrelevant- I'm sure there are things you find beautiful that others would think were indicative of bad taste- who cares. But to ask why she isn't spending that on her kids... Cop on to yourself.

Mj4me · 20/06/2025 08:03

250/ 300 for that level of skill/detail by that same artist.
