How much would you expect to pay for this tattoo?

Im not asking if you like tattoos. If you dont, may I strongly suggest you never get one and move along to another thread.

I know its not to everyone's taste and the good old cliche "bold will hold" etc etc but how much would you expect to pay for something like this?

I'm getting my children's birth flowers (yes another cliche, the thread is full of them) and have been quoted a price. Im happy to pay it because I like the artist's work but a few people have said it's expensive so out of curiosity, how much would you expect to pay for something like this?

Its £1 coin for scale.

ETA - It's my first tattoo so have nothing to compare it to. One of the people who commented has poorly done tattoos so I wouldnt listen to them and the other has well done tattoos but in a different style.

i'd say £200-300 artist dependent.

Have you found the artist already? If not, make sure you find one who specializes in this style!

TheNewVillageIdiot · 20/06/2025 09:03

but for me that is a large amount to spend on something unnecessary when you have children.

This thread isn't about you or your budget.

@Sickandtiredoflife i don’t think you meant to be mean but you genuinely don’t see that it’s not unnecessary, it means something massive to her , emotionally, mentally

for you perhaps happiness or a strong bond with your kids, is defined by the physical items you might get…. For us is a tattoo

OP it looks gorgeous ! If you can perhaps consider also putting your kids names at the bottom (I ve done similar). I’d expect 300 if experienced around London

Honestly why not just spend the money on your children? Why the need for performative gestures about them?

Username checks out 🤣

WigglywagglyWanda · 20/06/2025 09:05

And....op if you get it please put a pic on. It's really pretty.

May I ask what you've been quoted?

On the style and beauty section there's folk spending upwards of 150 every few weeks on their hair, nails, handbags etc and good for them if they can afford it.

I think the naysayers are more about the tattoo aspect and that's not what op asked.

Frequency · 20/06/2025 09:08

We don't know how old OP's children are. Perhaps they are older and want OP to do this. Mine are young adults now. Dd1 is covered in tattoos. DD2 loves tattoos but is very money-focused and cannot bring herself to pay money for one, even though she's loaded.

They'd both be overjoyed if I got a tattoo in their honor. DD1 in particular is always showing me designs she thinks would suit me and trying to encourage me to get a tattoo.

Regardless, it is OP's body, OP's money, OP's choice. Parents are people in their own right. 100% of their life, money, and time does not need to be dedicated to their children. That would be a miserable and damaging way to live.

SpacedOutOut · 20/06/2025 09:11

My tattooist charges £70ph (well he did 3 years ago when I had my last one done, probably more now). I’d guess that would take 2 hours.

AmelieSummer25 · 20/06/2025 09:11

@Tapoopoo

i don't know, because I've never had one.

Tree was one I was tempted to get & that was the tiny paw prints 🐾 going from your hip into your pants line. (I'm 56, it was 'the thing' when I was 16/17). But thank god I didn't as it would look more like I'd been trampled on by a St Bernard now 😩🙇🏻‍♀️

I have occasionally wanted one in the inside of my wrist, but have never wanted the same thing for more than 5 minutes 🤣so best I don't!!

Anyway. Back to your question... if it was me I'd find an artist that was highly recommended, incredibly talented at fine work & be prepared to wait & pay what they were asking. It's not like you can sell it on if it isn't great.

I paid £800 for my coffee machine & im not stuck with that on my body for life!

if you love it (them?) then find the artist first & pay what you need to!

Not to mention thousands on handbags! I dare say they don't ket their children play with them either! 🤣

gamerchick · 20/06/2025 09:14

It depends on where you go OP. It's an impossible question.

Tapoopoo · 20/06/2025 09:17

Thanks everyone.
I will read the comments in full later but to answer some questions...

  • this is actual work by the artist Im seeing. It's not pulled from Google. 😊I should have said.
  • I only want one. I should have made that clear too.
  • He has a looooong waiting list!
  • I'm happy to pay the price, I'm not after anything cheap. I was just curious.
  • "Performative" tattoos. 🤣🤣🤣 That's funny! Dont worry, I'm not spending their lunch money.
  • I know that in a few years, it might end up a smudged mess but I'm ok with taking that risk. Who knows what will happen in the next few years anyway! I understand what you mean but you cant not do things because reasons like that. 😊
  • It will be £200-£250 so actually not at all unreasonable. As I say, I was happy to pay that anyway even if it was over priced

Beautiful design. I'll just add that when looking for fine line artists beware of PMU artists offering tiny tats or fine line work. A lot of pmu artists take tattoo courses online and its really become popular where I live. Body art tattoos are very different to pmu so it's important to find an experienced artist that can advise on colour, placement, etc.

It's the assumption that op is spending money on a tattoo and not the kids🤣

I mean I could be loaded (I'm not but I could be)

And still ask reasonably what is a reasonable price for a flight to New York, or a two year old car....

But a tattoo?🤣🤣🤣

Reading this thread while waiting for cosmetic dentistry appointment where I will probably end up committing to spending a few thousand just on myself, then I’m going to get my nails done. Thoughts and prayers for my poor neglected children who have never seen a book or a toy and wear rags to school and eat wood shavings 🙏

Oh poor little darlings... still at least their mummy will look good at the school gate.

I hope you've at least packed them off to school with a Gregg's sausage roll and a can of redbull before you started on your selfish self-improvement?

Wood shavings?

Mine get dust and like it

I've got a fine line tattoo that hasn't smudged or gone horrible! As long as the artist is skilled with it (which they look like they are) it should be fine!! Enjoy your new tattoo🥰

MsFelicityLemon · 20/06/2025 09:39

You're much better waiting a good bit of time for decent tattoo artist and paying them a decent amount, to get a good job.

Sounds like thats what you ate doing - £250 for the picture you've shown sounds about right.

TSMWEL · 20/06/2025 09:40

McCartneyOnTheHeath · 20/06/2025 08:16

The OP is questioning the price, so it's completely relevant to point out that she may want to consider her financial priorities.

OP could be a millionaire for all you know and just wants to make sure they’re not getting quoted over the odds for their tattoo. How rude of you.

WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady · 20/06/2025 10:25

@Sickandtiredoflife and you think that it’s the OP who is performative?!

YourLivelyGreyLemur · 20/06/2025 10:36

How would anyone even know they're her children's birth flowers, in what sense could it be "performative"??😂 If you're going to troll the OP at least be clever about it!

They're pretty OP and I have zero intention of getting a tattoo but I've found it an interesting thread as the prices seem to have varied from 100-800 pounds!

gamerchick · 20/06/2025 11:02

Ah dude. Famous last words that in the tattoo world Grin

Just remember it's a life long thing. You're spending a decent chunk of change on it. Look after it and keep it out of strong sunlight and it'll stay bright for years. Care doesn't end after healing.

Come back a photo when it's done

gamerchick · 20/06/2025 11:05

Sickandtiredoflife · 20/06/2025 07:47

Well yes its her money and her choice but why on earth do it?
What good does it do her children for heavens sake?

Is that why you're sick of life, because you gave up on your own personal needs?

Life doesn't revolve around kids all of the time. Be selfish for a change.
