How much would you expect to pay for this tattoo?

Im not asking if you like tattoos. If you dont, may I strongly suggest you never get one and move along to another thread.

I know its not to everyone's taste and the good old cliche "bold will hold" etc etc but how much would you expect to pay for something like this?

I'm getting my children's birth flowers (yes another cliche, the thread is full of them) and have been quoted a price. Im happy to pay it because I like the artist's work but a few people have said it's expensive so out of curiosity, how much would you expect to pay for something like this?

Its £1 coin for scale.

ETA - It's my first tattoo so have nothing to compare it to. One of the people who commented has poorly done tattoos so I wouldnt listen to them and the other has well done tattoos but in a different style.

I've got a fine line tattoo that hasn't smudged or gone horrible! As long as the artist is skilled with it (which they look like they are) it should be fine!! Enjoy your new tattoo🥰

Thats good to hear. 😊

Just heads up OP: get a good aftercare cream special for coloured tattoos . Likely the artists sells his own but if you do your own research you ll find good one based on reviews

I also used a special tan protection for tattoos while on holidays

avoid petroleum based ones

x

I will look into those. Thanks

It's a beautiful design and it sounds as if you have done your homework.

I don't have tattoos (still working up to my first) but my adult DC have, including some complex intricate ones. Your artist is charging you a very fair rate for what you want. You will need touching up because of the colours you have chosen, but that's no big deal.

Ignore the tattoo snobs. Times are changing, thank goodness.

Well it makes sense to me OP.

Get a tattoo if you want OP. If thats what makes you happy and you have money to throw away.

But why try and make it about your children?

How does having supposed references to your children in the tattoo benefit them?

The majority of mothers love their children but most dont feel the need to get a tattoo about it.

Most mothers want their best for their children and I fail to see how spending money on a tattoo enhances your children's lives

If you want to enhance your childrens lives spend your money on them.

Dont try and dignity your desire to get a new tattoo by involving your children in this when in reality it has nothing to do with enhancing their lives but is all about about you and what you find aesthetically pleasing and can afford.

The OP is questioning the price, so it's completely relevant to point out that she may want to consider her financial priorities.

Are you that poster who goes onto Style and Beauty threads and tells everyone they should only shop in charity shops and spend the money they have saved on their children?

For all you know OP’s children could be in their 40s and completely financially independent…

Tbf the OP asked a question about price, not whether she should get a tattoo. You've gone on a tangent for no reason.

MonkeyPuddle · 20/06/2025 19:30

@Tapoopoo is that a Lee Humphrey tattoo? His work is stunning and he has photos of tats a few years down the line and show how well they heal. I’d happily pay £300 for his work.

It doesnt have any benefit to them. I never said it did. Of course it wont. You are the one who has made that leap. If I had dog paw prints for my dog, would you argue that my tattoo would impact her life? No, because that would be ridiculous.

In fact I have even acknowledged its a selfish frivolity. They dont care. Why would they? TBH I dount one of them would notice even if it was on my face.

Like most parents, they are my priority and I would never do anything that would negatively impact them. If I only had £250 then of course I wouldnt be getting a tattoo (or a handbag or even a Tesco meal deal...). They have everything they need and a lot of things they want.

I think 200-250 pounds is a very good price for that! I would expect to pay 300+. As other posters mentioned, it might be an idea to go bigger as it is less likely to smudge later, but your tattooist will guide you on that when you get an appointment.

Tapoopoo · 20/06/2025 19:10

Thats good to hear. 😊

My siblings have been tattooists at the same very good studio for about fifteen or twenty years if not more. They both do fine line work, both say to come back in for it to be fixed if any issues and have never had anyone come back (well, apart from one woman who'd self harmed over the tattoo and wanted it covered for free... Which my sister did even though that's clearly nothing she'd done wrong!)

I think a lot of the issues with tattoos blurring etc is that people have gone to the cheapest tattooist they could find who maybe doesn't have the necessary skills for what they want, and/or haven't looked after them properly.

Enjoy your tattoo OP, I've never had one despite having them offered free on tap from sibs because I've never thought of anything so meaningful I'd want it on me forever. You have so go for it! The examples you posted above are very pretty too 😊

Oh Lee Humphries! He's an amazing artist - my sister follows him. Well worth the cost!

Mrscharlieeeee · 20/06/2025 19:56

I pay £600 for a full day session. A decent artist won’t do a carbon copy and will design you their version of it. Fine line and detailed so probably £150 ish? I find it hard to judge as I just book for the day and get as much done in that session as I can which is usually a substantial piece like ny chest or shin.

Mrscharlieeeee · 20/06/2025 19:58

@Tapoopooi swear by palmers cocoa butter lotion (not the balm in the pot) for healing tattoos (from someone covered in very colourful neo/trad work).

Tapoopoo · 20/06/2025 20:07

I didnt realise people knew him tbh. I thought he was just a local artist.

I paid just over £200 for a fine line similar size so I wouldn’t say £200-250

Where did op say it was going to enhance their kids lives? If they want a tattoo which is a tribute to their kids, on what planet has that got anything remotely to do with what you’re saying.

And for what it’s worth, sometimes kids completely love their parents tattoos which are a tribute to them.

You don’t see the point of or like tattoos, don’t have one, but surprisingly this thread has precisely nothing to do with you or your opinions.

EveryOtherNameTaken · 20/06/2025 20:33

£200-£250.

Make sure you get an spf lipsil to cover it in the sun so it doesn't blur.

Very pretty.

It's unintentionally hilarious and to try and point out why you just woildnt get it.

You keep posting about what the tattoo could be better spent on, books etc, its all about the children!

The children could be in their 40s ffs

My daughter got one in memory of her beloved gran, her favourite flower, she was still able to take her kids away on holiday.

My friend got one in memory of her daughter.

You obviously don't get it, but I would stop typing now before you embarrass yourself further.
