British men in hot weather

Why do ( some) Brits ( men) strip off their tops the moment the sun is out? I don't want to see sunburnt beer bellies, multiple tats and baggy nylon shorts wandering around the supermarket. Men in France and Italy where its much hotter for longer wouldn’ t do this. Smart shorts and a polo shirt much nicer.

I don’t live near the coast but have had the unfortunate experience of passing several out of shape, pink, bald, scruffy looking men walk past me in the town centre as I finished work. Non of them wearing sandals or anything you would class as summer footwear.
Strangely all the women I passed seem able to keep their clothes on.

Fwiw these behaviours (esp from tourists) have become so bad countries/towns have actually had to put laws in place to say that going round topless (yes fir men too) isn’t lawful.

I’ve learnt my lesson.

The other day I was cleaning and wearing a pair of crappy shorts and T shirt with my hair in a scrunchy. I then thought f*ck it, I need to go to Tesco, no one is going to see me.

Well, it was like “This Is Your Life” when I got there. People from my new job, friends, people from my hobby. They all looked shocked as I’m normally quite polished and I looked like Waynetta Slob.

😄, that always happens to me especially when I nip out at lunchtime when WFH as I wear very casual clothes. Also have covered up massive black rings under my eyes as working late and get asked if I'm ok by some in that tone that is genuinely worried for your welfare!!

No, Im not arguing any such thing.

What I'm saying is that Americans can deal with heat and humidity without indulging in performance toplessness, and those who can't will be denied admittance to a business premises.

Also, there's a difference between casual clothing and strapless tops/ toplessness. Casual clothing is classy more often than not. Strapless tops and shirtlessness are not.

We are anticipating temps of about 100°F here for the next few days, or at least the high 90s. I guarantee I will not see anyone wearing a tube/ strapless top or going shirtless.

It’s still not ok if the bloke looks like he’s stepped out of filming a Hollywood blockbuster. However, the day I see a male who I would regard as beautiful behaving like the uncouth slobs who wander about the centre of town topless, is the day I will walk around topless too. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

The sandals comment was pointing out the fact that if they are that hot, then they would be wearing summer shoes, which they don’t. I’ve seen them in heavy footwear and socks.
A few years ago we were abroad and my dcs made friends with a German boy. The boy told his family we were an English. The dad told him he was wrong, that we could not possibly be English. None of us are mixed race. I gather we didn’t fit the stereotypical image. Quite grim really.

So one can with be a snob or married to a fat, topless man. It's worse than snog, marry, avoid.

I seem to have failed this life by marrying a working class man that keeps himself in a trim way, has no moobs or tatts.

Not seeing it locally, but they've always been bellies and bum cracks in the wilds of our streets, so maybe I no longer notice. However, I am seeing babies with limbs hanging out in the sun and children that seem a bit pink. Display your body as you like, just be sun aware.

Ive got a wc man, no belly or boob's, but he does have tats and he does take his top off in the garden/camping/ the beach!

All this stuff about "they need their tops off it is hot" is ridiculous and doesn't survive light scrutiny. It's perfectly possible to not go topless in any weather for any person. It's only been a recent thing comparatively speaking.

The worst is someone on a packed tube wearing a vest top, holding a hand rail and glistening drops of sweat pouring off their hairy pits. But at least a vest top is better than nothing.

How is it exactly justifiable in any way to say "yeah men can do this but not women"; we're all experiencing the same weather

I hate seeing men's hairy belly button holes when I'm popping in to Tesco's to get my lunch. Peuk.

Here in Italy some local councils have specific regulations that prohibit walking around without a shirt in certain areas, especially for reasons of 'decorum', such as in beach resorts or areas with a high influx of children. You can get a fine for it of up to €500- It is seen a very ill mannered to enter a restaurant with no top on or just in a bikini or costume. Flip Flops are for the beach only and are illegal to drive in, as are all shoes with no backs.

The only time I find seeing someone else's nipples acceptable is if they're children and therefore sweet and innocent, or a woman feeding her baby. Otherwise keep 'em covered. Urgh. I'm no prude (the stuff I've been up to would make hair curl) but unless it's a beach or a pool where everyone is partially dressed, cover 'em up!

Blokes wouldn't want to see MY elderly saggy nipples/boobs so I defo don't want to see theires.
