I thought Sainsburys had made a mistake when about 7 things cost me 50 quid. But, no it's correct.
I can't stand the cheap stuff and it will form the basis of a meal....but really??

I would cry if a third of a tuna salad was all I was getting for dinner!

😂Same.

We had lasagne last night and DH suggested sharing a garlic flatbread to go with it but I wasn't having it so we had one each 😀

PandoraSocks · 16/06/2025 15:04

The Sainsbury's version of the same type of tuna is a lot cheaper.

I actually prefer tinned. Not as bad as my dad, who prefers tinned salmon.

I know I'm an embarrassment.

Tinned salmon is really good for you! Because of the edible bones... yum.

WhatdoesitmeanKeith · 16/06/2025 15:07

I should add though, 1 tin between 3 does sound very… light!

Ireolu · 16/06/2025 15:08

Great advertising for this tuna brand. Had never heard of it, wonder if it will make tuna more palatable for us..(not fans)

strawlight · 16/06/2025 15:09

Ooof. I’ll get some for my cat’s Christmas stocking.

Oh come on 😂One tin of tuna, some butter beans, a red onion and some cherry tomatoes is NOT a "whopping bowl of food" between 3 people. And parsley is a herb, not a salad ingredient.

@Starlight1984 Parsley is a key ingredient in a lot of salads such as Middle Eastern ones; it's not that unusual.

I think as a light summer dinner that does actually sound fairly filling if served with bread but everyone's different, I have no comment really on people's opinions on the portion size as it wouldn't be enough for everyone. My DH would look a bit crestfallen if he was served a salad with bread, but me? I love dinners like that.

That's nothing, I just paid £2.29 for a fucking Yorkie bar at Newcastle station.

Oh I so want the laugh emoji for this!

Everytime I shop for tuna I get an insatiable urge to buy one of those glass jars of white tuna fillets suspended in olive oil and just eat them out of the jar with my fingers, over the sink. Then I see the price and it stops me buying, but not salivating for the rest of my shop. 🫣

Enjoy your tuna op. Lesson learnt, but a delicious one at that!

Tigergirl80 · 16/06/2025 15:13

I can’t stand cheap tuna either. Looks like cat food I won’t buy a tuna sandwich in a cafe or for a meal deal for that reason. I get John West Tuna in spring water usually on offer. By it’s £4.25 atm for 4 tins in Tesco. It’s lovely no complaints here.

It's been a trying day on the trains in the NE today. The Yorkie bar was much needed.

Bonito is high quality tuna AND it is in olive oil. We pay 4.40€ in my local for each. You should get sainsbury´s own in water or some other cheap option.

Coffeeishot · 16/06/2025 15:14

Just buy other brand tuna it tastes fine , how much does it usually cost ?

Coffeeishot · 16/06/2025 15:16

I get john west from farmfoods a fiver for a stack of 5.

I think that salad sounds lovely, and it’s served with bread.

I’m intrigued by this Ortiz tuna now - we eat masses of the stuff (Tescos own in spring water) and have it with mayo in sandwiches and in pasta puttanesca etc.

I’m not sure in those two meals you could say that tuna was ‘the star’ though, but my curiosity is getting the better of me now!

EasternStandard · 16/06/2025 15:19

I eat a lot of tuna and often avoid other red meat these days, I buy the 4 can stuff from Ocado.

I am aware it's likely cheaper than it should be considering fishing and how it should be valued.

Feetfingers · 16/06/2025 15:19

MoistVonL · 16/06/2025 14:29

I knew it would be Ortiz. It’s outstanding quality. It’s not really expensive if you consider it the ‘meat’ of a meal.

One tin does three of us (adults) for dinner in a salad - a jar of butter beans, the tuna, red onion, parsley, cherry tomatoes and a nice sharp dressing, served with fresh bread or flatbreads. Maybe a little gem lettuce on the side. It’s very filling because of the beans and it’s a nice quick summer dinner.

That would be perfect for a day like today when eating anything hot seems like hard work - I will make note (thank you). With some rocket too from the garden!

I expect it’s nutritious and delicious and is chucked in a bowl and grazed/munched/nibbled, as per the MN instructional manual.

So eat something else.

Persephoknee · 16/06/2025 15:25

This is a lovely idea for supper tonight, Thankyou!

TorroFerney · 16/06/2025 15:26

Your thread has made me want to buy it op , if you are not working for them in marketing then they owe you some free tins.

I had tuna belly in Madeira oh god it was good.

ShellieAnn · 16/06/2025 15:27

More fool you for buying it then.

TheEllisGreyMethod · 16/06/2025 15:30

I think this thread has inadvertently influenced me to try this tuna.

MargaritaPracticallyCan · 16/06/2025 15:30

@MoistVonL that sounds amazing. I've made similar with regular tinned tuna or chunks of poached salmon, smoked mackerel fillets but the fancy tuna and butterbeans sounds incredible. Thanks for the inspiration.
