I think Mark has never fully gone away, and will definitely have a revival, along with Paul, Stephen and Jonathon, which in my mind are similar vintage.

i don’t expect Percy or Barry to come back.

I know a toddler Percy, in fact I think it's a reasonably popular first name like Arthur or Stanley.
All these names will be popular again one day.

MrsR2be · 15/06/2025 19:04

Nigel, Barry, Gary, Geoffrey, Maureen, Doreen

I know a few young Barry’s (Irish) so it isn’t dead yet! When I was young I had a friend called May and she was bullied for having an old lady name but when my teenagers started school there were lots of kids with OAP names like May, Ruby & Lily, they had come back into fashion 10+ years ago. The only name that I foresee never making a comeback is Wayne.

ThisZanyPinkSquid · 15/06/2025 19:16

Barry, Malcolm, Mary, Margaret. Unless family names

VickyEadieofThigh · 15/06/2025 19:21

Any of the ones mentioned might return to popularity.

If you'd asked me when I was in my 20s, I'd have said: Elsie, Ruby, Alfie, Alice, Edith and a whole list of what back then were considered 'old person' names. All of which I see regularly when I visit primary schools.

Quite solid names then, some staying popular from quite a few years back (Oliver, Lily, Chloe). I wonder if the Jayden, Kayden, Braydon style names have now lost their appeal.

Someone I went to school with has a Jaiden but I'm pretty sure he's in secondary school now. I live abroad now so a lot of the names listed are relatives' children - I have about 18 cousins - plus a few friends I've kept in touch with.

Agree Karen is over. Eileen will never again be resurrected & the same with Noleen. I think Bonnie will not be back again for a while.

Bonnie’s really popular just now, theres 3 influencers children named it too

Nikki7506 · 15/06/2025 19:25

I know children with the first 3 names on that lost

Fuminhuman · 15/06/2025 19:26

I think Dale is a dying name. I’ve met kids named Darren, Duncan,Brian and Alan.

PurpleChrayn · 15/06/2025 19:28

A lot of these names are common in other countries. Kevin is quite popular in France, would you believe. Also Singapore and Hong Kong use names we would find very old fashioned. I know a Perpetua.

XelaM · 15/06/2025 19:30

Most names on this thread are totally normal names that have no reason to die out 🤷‍♀️

By contrast, on the "most beautiful name you've ever heard" thread most names were absolutely hideous and most I have never heard in real life.

Percy is on my baby name list for future DC!

Ribenaberry12 · 15/06/2025 19:47

Doreen, Eileen, Dennis, Roger.

Grammarnut · 15/06/2025 19:48

ShellieAnn · 14/06/2025 14:45

Keith, Barbara, Barry, Tracy, Mark.

Well, Mark has been around for a few millenia, Tracy, a traditional boys' name from a surname, has been around at least 3 centuries, Barbara has been around longer than Mark and Keith is pretty old, too, it's Gaelic and means 'a wood'. Don't think any of them are disappearing any time soon.
'Sidney' for a girl might fade, but Tracy has made the transition from being a wholly male name to being a female one, so I hold out little hope for that!

Pliudev · 15/06/2025 19:59

I've only read to the bottom of page 1 but I'm surprised no- one has suggested my name: Pauline. Including me, I know three, all about the same age and Northern. Two of us are inclined to be bossy and outspoken like the Pauline in League of Gentlemen. Please Mumsnetters, if you are looking for baby names, walk away now. I hate my name.

It's been discussed. I think it's a nice name. I had a good friend at school called Pauline.
Why don't you like it?

Menoblub · 15/06/2025 20:03

Judith. My name. Haven’t heard it for years. But why would you?

RosesAndHellebores · 15/06/2025 20:07

I think Judith is a delightful name and everyone I have ever known who has been called Judith is equally delightful. DD has a chum of 30 from Eastern Europe who is called Judith, pronounced Juditt.

I think it will come again.
