Wayne, and Lee are gone for good, I think.

Pamela, Sheila and Brenda also.

And for 'old lady' names, Gladys will never see the light of day again! the others, definitely, and do!

Ian
Kenneth

There was a baby Mark in the same ward as me when I gave birth this year.

I think Mark is a lovely name, works for a little boy and an adult man

borderlaise · 14/06/2025 21:44

Haven’t read all the thread but I work with young babies and kids up to secondary age and lots of names mentioned here are still very much alive! But, no Gary’s or Nigel’s.

Nushi21 · 14/06/2025 21:46

Janice, Janet, Angela, Pamela, Karen, Gregory, Stuart, Keith.

Gemma. I don’t think I’ve come across any younger than me (im mid 30s)

I started teaching in 96. Every other girl was called Gemma.

I left in 2020. No Gemmas at all.

I know two Olives! One is 14 months and one a newborn.

I think it is a lovely name

Goldenbear · 14/06/2025 21:48

Bronka and Horrice

RosesAndHellebores · 14/06/2025 21:49

My mum's friends - all late 80s now:

Barbara
Silvia
Marion
Anita
Patricia
Joan

Their partners:

Michael
John
Gerald
Lennie
Tom
Reggie

They will all return I expect.

BlueyNeedsToFuckOff · 14/06/2025 21:51

I don’t get the hatred for Keith over some of the other names mentioned. Perhaps because all the Keiths I’ve known have been absolutely lovely men, but I’d definitely prefer Keith over something like Wilfred.

TheEllisGreyMethod · 14/06/2025 21:51

Gary and Colin hopefully

RafaFan · 14/06/2025 21:51

Gina
Tina
Gavin
Howard

Gavin is REALLY popular in the under 10s in Canada at the moment. There are 5 or 6/100 boys at my daughter's school.

I nearly called my daughter Marion, or Marianne. We were on the fence.
I would say Lennie, Tom (or Tommy specifically!) and Reggie are all pretty popular at the moment.

Bertha, Gertrude, Mavis, Tracey, Sharon, Karen.

Gordon, Wilfred, Nigel, Barry, Darren, Kevin.

Loveshine · 14/06/2025 22:08

Really doubt anyone is calling their babies Lindsey, or any of its variety of spellings.

Why?

Gordon, Wilfred, Nigel, Barry, Darren, Kevin.

As we've said upthread, Wilfred is currently really popular!

Loveshine · 14/06/2025 22:18

SuziQuinto · 14/06/2025 22:13

Why?

Maybe because it's my name but I feel like it's very 70s/80s dated. Not necessarily a name that would translate to when the next generation are naming their kids.

That’s the thing- possibly any of the names we’ve all mentioned will make a comeback! It’s really interesting.

So 10 years ago, I would have said Evelyn, Vera, Leonard and Ernest, but I now know young children who have those names (they weren’t ones I’d heard all through school myself or as an adult).

Talkinpeace · 14/06/2025 22:22

Damian is not common any more

DepositSaverUpper · 14/06/2025 22:23

Dcs school have a Barbara a Jeremy and a Clint all age under 8

I know of 3 babies called Ernest! I never thought that would be popular again.

Ooh Duncan is a good one! I had a lovely friend called Duncan aged 6, but haven’t met once since. Same with Damian actually.
