I think Gary.

Ive only met one and he’s in his 50’s now. Never met a baby Gary

OP posts:

Karen

newrubylane · 14/06/2025 21:04

Also, when naming my 6yo twins I floated Eileen, Gladys Doris and Morris (thos least two not together, obviously!), all of which have been mentioned here.

40s and 50s style names are ripe for reuse now, and I think we'll start to see quite a lot of them reappearing over the next 10 years or so.

Olive is really quite popular at the moment 😂

I’ve got an Olive…it’s basically ended up the modern day Louise! Baby Sensory there were 3 Olive’s in our group. And I thought it was so unique 🤪

babyproblems · 14/06/2025 21:04

Agree Gary. Keith. Martin. Kevin. Karen. Colin. Alan. Julian. All hideous imo!

I think Mark has never fully gone away, and will definitely have a revival, along with Paul, Stephen and Jonathon, which in my mind are similar vintage.

i don’t expect Percy or Barry to come back.

Mark, Paul and Stephen are classic saints’ names, that will never really date.

Apparently John is now making a (IMO overdue) comeback.

I think Wayne might die the death, but not sure I’d put money on it. I always dreaded dds telling us they were going to marry a Wayne, a Kevin or a Darren. Just as well they never did!

Olive

Olive?! I know so many baby Olives, it's in the top 100 girls names I'm sure!!

Agree Karen is over. Eileen will never again be resurrected & the same with Noleen. I think Bonnie will not be back again for a while.

Bonnie is in the top 20 most popular baby girls names in the UK, I have a 2 year old and 2 of her friends are called Bonnie

toriaplum · 14/06/2025 21:12

I know a Gary, an Olive, a Frank, a Frankie, a Trudy, and two Pearls who are all under 11.

TheTecknician · 14/06/2025 21:12

Keith has outstayed its welcome by about a hundred years. I wouldn't call my worst enemy Keith. As was once said on Family Guy, it is the most unattractive male name in the English Language.

Bruce, Barry and Patrick need to disappear for humans' sake but do make good names for big dogs like Labradors.

Mildred is a good name for a cat, not a person.

zigazigahhhh · 14/06/2025 21:13

Gemma. I don’t think I’ve come across any younger than me (im mid 30s)

Doitrightnow · 14/06/2025 21:15

babyproblems · 14/06/2025 21:04

Agree Gary. Keith. Martin. Kevin. Karen. Colin. Alan. Julian. All hideous imo!

I really love Martin! And Alan and Julian were also on the list if we'd had a boy!

I actually like Gary too. Don't understand the hate.

I don't like Keith (or any names ending in th), or Kevin though.

Karen is nice. I refuse to use it as slang. So rude.

Edited

Keith just always reminds me of The Chicken Song.

Hold a chicken in the air
Stick a deckchair up your nose
Buy a jumbo jet
And then bury all your clothes
Paint your left knee green
Then extract your wisdom teeth
Form a string quartet
And pretend your name is Keith.

I don't think there will ever be a Tarquin again. I think Dennis and Derek should be allowed to die.

Urgh I was hoping that Susan was dead and buried in the deepest pit. There were six of us in my primary class, including two of us with the same surname (pronounced the same although spelled one letter different). Two little blond girls with ponytails - what could possibly go wrong 😆

Same😂
I was a blonde, ponytailed Susan too but through school/uni/almost three decades of work I've only ever come across one other Susan (also blonde and ponytailed)

ShellieAnn · 14/06/2025 14:45

Keith, Barbara, Barry, Tracy, Mark.

Why? All pretty normal names

Mihrène · 14/06/2025 21:37

I'm Anne ... with the very important " E"

1956 baby .
My name was very popular because of Princess Anne ,although I am called after Great Grandma.

I have always been very, very happy with my name .
I really like it.
However, noone has called babies Anne for decades...myself included... my second daughter is Anna .
I'll wait to see if I come back into fashion.

Pigtailsandall · 14/06/2025 21:38

Derek, Darryl and Darren. They feel sharp and unpleasant to say.

Fetaface · 14/06/2025 21:39

ACatAsleepInYourHat · 14/06/2025 15:01

Cliff/Clifford
Barry
Bernard
Dennis
Kenneth
Edgar
Maurice/Morris
Leslie
Perry

I know “old” names sometimes make a surprising comeback, but I suspect most of the above are gone for good. All, strangely enough, are or were names of members of my family.

I know an Edgar and I know 3 boys called Dennis/Denis. One has a sister called Denise! 😂

CruCru · 14/06/2025 14:49

Gordon isn’t used any more (but it may become popular again - I know of a boy called Stanley).

I actually know a few 10 yo boys called Stanley

I know a baby Julian. I really like it.

Toolatetoasknow · 14/06/2025 21:41

I can't imagine a baby Jean these days.
Or a Josephine.
Lovejoy/Loveday also probably gone for good.
It's a great pity about Karen, I have a good friend with that name and it's ruined it for her. It was a nice name before all the nonsense.

JackJarvisEsq · 14/06/2025 21:42

Depends where you are.

in Scotland you are definitely more likely to get an Allan, Colin or Mark as these names tend to be passed down.

here we are less likely to have Piers or Sebastian

My friend's son is called Julian, he's 12 years old. But both her husband a.d her are not from here.

Frank is really, really popular now.

I once worked with a man called Frank, he was so nasty, rude and aggressive, he was known as Brutally Frank. He ended up being sacked for threatening other staff. That sort of kills the name for me.
