I know what you mean, @BunnyLake .
It's like Frank, which I always associated with Frank Spencer, but I teach a few boys called Frank and it's grown on me.

Olive is in Little Miss Sunshine too. 'Let Olive be Olive'.

I know a Susan on her 20s.

Urgh I was hoping that Susan was dead and buried in the deepest pit. There were six of us in my primary class, including two of us with the same surname (pronounced the same although spelled one letter different). Two little blond girls with ponytails - what could possibly go wrong 😆

Pauline
Craig
Derek
Ian

Ketzele · 14/06/2025 19:56

I know a Tarquin. He is not posh, and went to a really rough school. Not good.

EverythingIsComputer · 14/06/2025 19:57

They all come back around, I think the only names that die out will be you Adolfs etc.

Scarfitwere · 14/06/2025 19:57

I don't think any of these will die out...they come and go. In a few decades I bet Sharon and Tracey, Craig and Barry will be back in. Just like Ava, Edie, Sylvia etc are back now.

Ladamesansmerci · 14/06/2025 19:57

Karen
Donald
Boris

All for obvious reasons.

Names like Sheila, Ethel, Shirley, etc

You're right. I think, as pp said, with very rare exceptions, most names get revived.

Cookiecrumblepie · 14/06/2025 20:00

Yeah Karen. Who in their right mind would call their daughter Karen now?

YourChirpyFatball · 14/06/2025 20:01

I went to school with a Joelle and a Thaddeus and Danuta.
Have had a cat called Donald.
A cat called Norman (female)
A hamster called Gita (after Geeah on EEnders).
A rabbit called Jeff ( thought male originally but then had bairns).
I think Julie, Claire and Elaine are pretty names. As is Louise.
I love Lydia. So romantic. Also Rosalind.
I think a baby Winnie would be adorable.
There's a male Irish name Malise which I've only ever read about one man called. Perhaps some Irish Mumsnetters have heard of it.

OneFunBrickNewt · 14/06/2025 20:01

Gaye

Gail too.

Luanaa · 14/06/2025 20:03

Rachel
Natalie
Michelle
Louise
Monica

I actually think the real old names have made a comback, it’s the names of the 80s, 90s & early 2000s that aren’t being reused!

surreygirl1987 · 14/06/2025 20:04

Karen.

Was it Malise Gordon in Riders? 🙃

eta Winnie is getting rather popular around me, several baby Winnie’s about.

PlumpAndCircumstance · 14/06/2025 20:04

I know someone in their 30s who shared their name with a divisive political figure. He has changed his name.

I think Walter has completely died out. Don't know any that wouldn't be over 100 today.

Haha, not in hackney. There are two in my son's Reception class. Both go by Walt.

Lindajonesjustcantlivemylife · 14/06/2025 20:06

Brian
Kevin
Colin

Longdarkcloud · 14/06/2025 20:07

I’ve always thought Agatha was a really ugly name and that it must have become obsolete then a couple of years back someone on MN was using it and others were saying How cute or pretty it was. The main drive seems recently to find “different” names so periodically the old names are recycled and become popular again.
Celebrities with confidence will use any old proper noun as a name and then when the general public become accustomed to those names they are tempted to use them themselves.

Agree Karen is over. Eileen will never again be resurrected & the same with Noleen. I think Bonnie will not be back again for a while.

I teach a Bonnie & thought what a lovely name, I also teach a Martin and a Gary. Lots of these names are coming round again.

True. I've heard of a little Eileen, I think it's a pretty name.

Overtheatlantic · 14/06/2025 20:11

Bertha couldn’t possibly come back.
