Morning star fake bacon, was amazing

I agree. And their corn dogs were elite.

JohnofWessex · 13/06/2025 19:43

Back in the mid 70's for a summer there was an ice cream, a bit like a choc ice only lemon sorbet covered with lemon fondant

GasperyJacquesRoberts · 13/06/2025 19:46

If you'll forgive a non-food item: Body Shop used to do a seaweed and loofah soap bar that was amazing. I miss it every day when I have a shower.

ClaudiaNaughton · 13/06/2025 19:46

Cranks bread. Just finished my last freezer one.

Bird’s Eye rissoles and Pom Bear prawn cocktail bears. I used to live on the rissoles when I was a child.

oh god the rissoles!

Also, Mackintosh Mint Cracknel and the Dairy Milk chocolate bars that had about 8 chocolates fused together in.

marketday · 13/06/2025 19:46

Very sad that Cadbury chocolate is nothing like as good as it used to be so might as well be discontinued!

Worcester sauce Twiglets
Pickled onion Discos
Cadbury Fuse bars

Also this hasn’t been discontinued but it’s pretty much impossible to find Caerphilly cheese now.

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 13/06/2025 19:49

Peperami noodles. I loved those.

I suppose it isn't too hard to recreate them but the noodles were nicer than any other instant noodles.

I assume the scent was mostly the reason you loved it (I like seaweed fragrances) but, fyi, Imperial Leather have a pomegranate bar that contains loofah bits!

The BHS cafe in the 80s used to sell triangular whole meal scones. Served with butter and cheese.

Lovely

They also did fabulous granary rolls, which you got with a bowl of soup.

Meanies pickled onion crips
Mint Feast
Snowflake

You can still buy meanies in Ireland ? Well a version of pickled onion corn snacks called meanies anyway.
i do miss snow flake. It was divine.

mateusrose678 · 13/06/2025 19:51

Back in the 80’s M&S used to do a rice pudding dessert with an apricot sauce. It was really cheap and delicious. I think about it all the time.

hyggetyggedotorg · 13/06/2025 19:52

Proper cheese hamwiches. The ones that were a slab of ham and with a layer of cheese on top wrapped in breadcrumbs. The modern ones with the ham & cheese mixed are just not right.

ReginaPhalange92 · 13/06/2025 19:53

Topic bars
Turkey drummers (how they used to taste when I was a kid, the new ones are awful)

I'llBuyThatForADollar · 13/06/2025 19:55

Superwhip from Iceland in the 80s/early 90s. I have amazing memories of the taste being a creamy delicious ice cream/frozen cream dessert. Most likely full of absolute e numbers but I’d be in heaven for a tub of that today!

I haven't been in Lush for years, but they used to do this; https://www.lush.com/uk/en/p/buffy-body-butter
ChocolateCinderToffee; the bars of fused chocolates were Milk Tray; uk.pinterest.com/pin/70s-cadburys-milk-tray-chocolate-bar--423338433697580035/

Sainsbury’s used to do a multiseed croissant that was amazing. They’re really common in Europe. Sadly no more over here near me!

In the 90s M&S used to do these amazing baked potato and butter flavoured crisps, I think they might have been baked/lower fat.

These were the food of the gods. What alchemy lay behind somehow being able to make a crisp taste exactl,y like a baked potato with butter.

This is so niche because I am ancient, but when I was growing up in the 1970s/80s, M&S had this thing called Suffolk Hotpot. It was cubes of ham in a creamy sauce with crispy sliced potatoes on the top. They probably haven't made it for 40 years but I still remember exactly how brilliant it tasted.

Phileas Fogg Mignon Morceaux. Best snack EVER.

Seconded. They were awesome.

Maretti bruschette are the closest substitute I have found, but they’re not the same.

dillydally79 · 13/06/2025 20:00

A type of biscuit, I think they were called “sunbreak” possibly made by Foxs. They were around maybe 25 years ago and were the best biscuits ever

GOLDEN CUP bars i still think about them and I've not eaten one for decades!

They were good unless it had went a bit melty and that foil wrapper was a bugger to get off.

NCNC2 · 13/06/2025 20:04

Brannigans beef and mustard crisps
a ready to blend frozen smoothie that farm foods did which I drank every day and actually got me off blood pressure meds!

Oh yes i forgot they did that picking the foil off was part of the experience 😅

Lindajonesjustcantlivemylife · 13/06/2025 20:05

Burton's cheese and tomato puff's.
