For me it is terribly pedestrian.

Hot soapy shower before bed. Getting into bed all clean and warm makes me feel so good.

Peppermint tea before bed- same

Getting up at 5.30 am and having a quiet cup of coffee and reading a book before everyone else gets up at 6.

Sprung mattress after a Tepur

Yorkshire tea

Giving up booze

Giving up commuting 4+hours a day. I did it for 32 years.

Giving up toxic friends (years of bitchy comments, stay in your lane stuff). This has been life transforming as I dreaded socialising with these people as I knew they'd find a way to say something hurtful. I'd come home and cry.

Can you explain what difference you see? I've just found I am low on vitamin D.

I find I have more energy, feel less lethargic etc

New mattress, fresh Egyptian duvet cover and fresh sheets, HRT, getting gripped into a new book, a full fridge

@nothingagainstyourrightleg

Thank you! I have been plagued with difficulty getting to sleep for YEARS so this is on my to do list.

To be honest lack of sleep makes me depressed, so this could be easy to obtain!

You are welcome! I am a mental health first aider. It hasn’t been easy to give up but honestly, so many things stem from alcohol. I did a three month course. Hope you start feeling better and more rested 🙂

Nice cup of proper coffee on a morning.

A good skin care routine.

Clean and tidy home helps me feel better and more in control but this doesn’t happen every day.

Going to the gym three times a week which is a new habit for me in my late 50’s makes me feel stronger and healthier mentally and physically.

Having read the book let them I am trying to use this approach and it is very helpful to me.

Meal planning and batch cooking is good for me I eat better and healthier and feel like Wonder Woman.

Catching up with good friends putting the world to rights and having a good laugh. Finally realising I don’t need a big circle a small circle is enough.

Is the 'Let Them book by Mel Robbins?
I saw her on an interview talking about her method the other day. It sounds like genius! Is the book a good read? Is there much more to it than just let people be tw@ts, but you walk away to protect your own mental health?
Thanks x

My QOL still needs work, but whats working for me is:

  • appliances to make life easier - eg dishwasher/microwave
  • tools to make life easier and reduce waste; eg ditching non-stick as I got fed up with always needing to replace it due to coating breaking down and not working. I switched to good quality stainless steel and have not missed nonstick at all - much easier in fact once you know how to cook / clean with it.
  • Having life values - for me as a strategy - moving towards being more eco-minded and reducing waste / reusing what I can.
  • Doing less not more where possible - but this is from a starting point of a really busy single parent life
  • Only spending time / energy on what is worthwhile - this means avoiding negative energy where possible and focussing on good karma
  • Getting rid of clutter - destroyer of QOL
  • Self-care - whatever you like for self care -for me the garden chair egg and layze spa

Freckleface wax melts. I melt one every evening and the same one will last a week at which point I'll choose a new fragrance. It's my little routine to symbolise that wind down time has begun and makes the living room smell lovely. It is poncy but I like the little dried flowers or herbs etc that they use in their melts and the fact they are handmade in England.

My loving, patient, understanding, kindly DH
My vegetable patch and the wonderful crop it produces
Our four rescue cats, each an adorable individual, loving and cuddly.
The sunshine in the mornings streaming into the kitchen
My hour of me-time, just before dawn, writing my latest book by the fire
Life is wonderful, appreciating the simple pleasures it brings
