Greta’s flotilla

TheSnugMoose · 09/06/2025 12:08

What are you thoughts on this? 13 people including Greta Thunberg were travelling to Palestine via boat with supplies. It’s been intercepted by Isreal and diverted.

Whatvare your thoughts? I’m guessing they will simply be deported, maybe with a severe telling off? The UN and the Palestinian foreign ministry have vocalised their support and asked for them to be allowed to continue their journey, however Isreal have said it was nothing more than a vanity exercise and they had very limited supplies on board to actually give aid.

What do you think will happen to the activists on board? Do you think they were right to go? Do you think they genuinely wanted to help or it was more about raising awareness?

I like Greta and I love that she has, so far, used her life to champion causes and she seems like a clever and funny woman. But I wonder if this trio was always doomed and what their long term plan was, especially if they had little aid onboard? But if that was their intention, maybe they just wanted to raise awareness of their feelings on the situation? Should anyone be trying to intervene like this or should it be left to proper channels?

I know feelings are high about this and I want to say I don’t support any of the awful things that have happened and recognise bad things on both sides. I don’t care for Israel’s terrible behaviour or Hamas’ awful doings, I do however care for the innocent people in the middle on both sides. This thread is just to get general thoughts on this…’mission’.

Just to add my thoughts: if this was a genuine aid mission then I respect them putting themselves potentially at risk (due to the boat trip) to care for others but also feel like it’s extremely naive and not actually the right thing to do, there has to be better ways to support?

Of course it was a vanity exercise. Greta is the definition of a useful idiot. If there’s a bandwagon she’s jumping aboard

HermioneWeasley · 09/06/2025 12:15

It’s a pointless virtue signalling exercise. If I were her parents I would be thanking the hug heavens she’s safely in IDF custody and not taken by Hamas. I understand the IDF are going to show them footage from October 7th before they are released which I think is an excellent idea.

Comedycook · 09/06/2025 12:16

Pathetic, virtue signalling waste of time.

RobinStrike · 09/06/2025 12:17

I heard on the radio that they are being shown a video of the Hamas October 7 atrocities, and that the IDF are passing on the very small quantity of food and baby powder they had onboard to the food distribution centre.

Westcott313 · 09/06/2025 12:17

It's taken a few brave individuals to risk their lives to do what's desperately needed. It's not just about delivering aid or drawing attention to themselves! It's the fact that Isreal thinks it needs to intercept. Why? Why not let them deliver the aid?

The world is waking up slowly. It's not about the hostages. It's ethnic cleansing. The killing needs to stop! Totally disproportionate to Oct 7. There's no comparison anymore.

Bravo to Greta.

Westcott313 · 09/06/2025 12:19

Safe in the hands of IDF? Are you for real?
Have you seen the videos of decapitated and burnt children? Under the rubble, arms blown off?
All done deliberately. War criminals.

SirChenjins · 09/06/2025 12:20

I thought she’d been very quiet of late - probably felt a bit sidelined by the 🌈 and wanted to remind the world of her extremely important existence. It’s a lot of virtue signalling that will achieve very little beyond a lot of noise on SM, which is what it all seems to be about these days.

Comedycook · 09/06/2025 12:20

Nearly 20 million are experiencing severe hunger and food shortages in Yemen....I wonder why she didn't go there to deliver aid?

KurtansCurtain · 09/06/2025 12:21

so how many boats should Israel allow to land in Gaza claiming to be “carrying aid?” Just this one? Only those with famous passengers?

Westcott313 · 09/06/2025 12:22

Why does Israel get to decide?

ChocHotolate · 09/06/2025 12:26

She’s doing something, which is a lot more than 99% of us (including me) are doing. She’s raising the profile of the humanitarian disaster, keeping people (us) talking about it and highlighting that Israel won’t let aid in.
I think she is incredibly brave, foolish but undeniably brave

I feel like they aren’t going to do anything to them, like hurt them though? Surely that wouldn’t be a smart idea? I sort of thought they’d be packed off with some sort of warnings about returning?

I’ve got very mixed feelings. On one hand, I think Greta Thunberg is one of the most annoying people on the planet, but then again, someone has got to do something to shame governments into taking a stand against the Israeli government and stopping them from continuing the genocide in Gaza. The level of publicity has been much greater because Greta Thunberg was on board the ship, so I suppose it’s got to be a good thing. What really concerns me about this jaunt is that the boat was intercepted in international waters, and was not even particularly close to the exclusion zone.

Yes I saw that Greta had said it was tantamount to kidnapping. The UN have said more boats need to make the journey. I don’t know if Greta being on board is a good thing in terms of bringing awareness or not, maybe another boat might have made it.

But I am still not sure if I think boats are a good thing at all.

Have you lost your mind? are people really this naive!! Its not safe. Do you really think Hamas are going to welcome them with open arms when they're in the process of blocking aid coming in through a company in America. How on earth did they think they were even going to get into Gaza ?? It's virtue signalling madness.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 09/06/2025 12:42

Is she still there?
Has she been deported?
Very foolish 😒

Why is Hamas blocking aid to their own people?

This is my friend thoughts in any boats heading in, proper channels can mean potentially more protecting, floating in is dangerous for multiple reasons.

We’re talking about Greta - so yes, brava Greta for raising Greta’s profile.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 09/06/2025 12:47

I can't stand her, she is an attention seeker and I really resent how she apologised to the people of Palestine on behalf of the western world. Like she was the only one appalled by what's happening. 'How dare you', as she says herself. Sometimes famous people are needed to draw attention to something that's not picked up by the media, but this isn't such a cause, it's headline news every night. 1000s of people of all over world have pledged aid and 100s are risking their lives every day to deliver it. We all know the aid is being blocked intentionally by Israel for the purpose of starving the Palestinians. How did she think she could change this? Political pressure is what is needed not a media circus.

I'm sure she will be treated well by IDF when the eyes of the media are on them.

Tabitha005 · 09/06/2025 12:52

Westcott313 · 09/06/2025 12:22

Why does Israel get to decide?

Presumably because Israel knew full well getting up in Greta's grill would make headline news around the world - because she makes her point well and routinely embarrasses governments all over the world by calling them out for failing to do much of anything to mitigate climate change.

It cracks me up that people slag Thunberg off for actually getting off her arse and being prepared to be slated for a cause that's likely to have huge ramifications for millions of us in the coming years. I'm amazed how many people don't think climate change is anything to do with them... at the same time they're slagging off others migrating from drought and flood stricken countries in order to build a better life for their families.

Hamas need to surrender.

They are responsible for starting and prolonging this conflict.

Greta is little more than a useful idiot in this.

You actually believe Hamas is blocking aid. Unbelievable.

imagiantwitch · 09/06/2025 12:54

They could show Greta and crew the proof of the supposed humanitarian aid that Israel are providing to the people of Gaza couldn’t they? If Israel were smart they’d use this opportunity to use Greta’s platform and prove that they aren’t committing genocide….:.:
