Light hearted to counter the worst stuff you've bought thread.

Me - two Kirby vacuums for under £200 delivered from eBay rather than £4k - one for each floor as they're bloody heavy. I may think of more as we go along

Delivered this morning from eBay, bra extender, cost £1.95. Bra I wanted to wear is a half inch too tight, I'm losing weight so didn't want to spend £45 on a new one. Works like a dream.

goose duvet I recently bought. Before moving in with OH, I had a down duvet but decided to get rid of it when I moved, as it was a bit marked, and I did not find anywhere I could easily get to for cleaning. In the end we had a synthetic duvet, as money was tight. Have put up with it for 8 years. Too light; cannot feel it when in bed, cold, and keeps slipping off, so decided had to go back to a down one!
Electric can openers are not everyone's choice, but with repetitive strain on my wrists, hand-operated ones are beyond me, so this is a godsend.
Bath sheets sounds daft but i have decided to get rid of all the small bath sheets and hand towels. I would much rather get more bath sheets far better

Robot vacuum. Current one is a Eufy. Vacuuming is one of the jobs I hate the most, so not having to do it is wonderful.

This nourison prismatic rug. Vibrant and makes us smile. Lots of compliments.

Shower sheeting for the bathroom instead of tiles. So easy to clean and no grout.

I'm interested in this, as grout isn't impermeable. Does it look nice and are there brands you'd recommend?

@MoominMai
I’m also interested in water feature advice!
Actually really more tips on the best solar panel to run a small pump. I think that could be fitted to a home made reservoir of some kind.

my best gadget was a Phillips Lumea

1 metre square porcelain tiles for the entire downstairs.. literally transformed our house.

Would love to know which oil dispenser you use please. My OH sometimes cooks and uses way too much oil.

hi zacsGranny and @Treesandsheepeverywhere , it’s this little one! I got it from Sainsbury’s last year. There’s a smaller metal pipe within the metal pipe, I guess that somehow regulates air in and flow of oil out.

Electric blanket. I don't like a warm bedroom but do like a warm bed.

Dishwashers are a no-brainer - if I redesign this kitchen I'd have two so you never have dirty plates etc on the side - fill one and run it and everything in the meantime goes into the other. My Kitchenaid mixer was a no brainer as well - use it for everything, baking, mashed potato, batter for yorkies or pancakes. Superb

The idea for two dishwashers is yet more evidence that humans have reached peak civilization and are into post-civilisation. An era of crazy excess that, for some, feels perfectly justified, as we plummet to our oblivion.

Unless you have more than 12 people at every meal, and no time to run the dishwasher between meals, there is absolutely no need for two dishwashers. It wasn't unusual for us to have nine people in the house in my past life and we never had this problem. Also you would need a ludicrous amount of crockery to keep two dishwashers going.

It might be useful if you are orthodox Jewish and need to keep the milk and meat crockery and cutlery separate.

Cheapest, probably the pyrex baking trays (I'm now up to 5🙈) pre-heated, nothing sticks. Not pre-heated hardly anything sticks. They slot neatly into the dishwasher, not bulky, no discolouration. On the lookout for more.

Expensive, sage oracle touch coffee machine ... its beautiful, produces fab coffee, darn expensive.

This has blown my mind. I'd never heard of a Pyrex baking tray. (rushes off to Amazon)...

Ooni pizza oven. Out best cooking gadget ever - lockdown purchase and still used regularly

Can I ask you, how do you heat it? Gas or wood? Would love one but not sure if it’s easy to operate
Thanks

This shower drain cover after the cover that came with the shower was useless. Makes me so happy not to have to unclog a dark drain hole!

Thanks for this, didn't even know there was a thing

Had it two days - its made a HUGE difference, no hair down the drain at all

I will have a look at the label tonight.

I use these wire racks which fit inside cupboard doors. You can get them in loads of sizes but need to position them so that the pots don't hit the shelves. I've used them in three kitchens now.
There are quite a few sellers on Amazon, including

A smart ceiling light and fan in the bedroom. Being peri menopausal this is a game changer, I have it running all night 😂

thetorturedpoetsdepartmentssecretary · 14/06/2025 00:09

@TreesandsheepeverywhereI'vejust ordered a black out roller blind from blindsbypost, really hoping I can fit it. Tried putting up a roller blind when I moved in, but couldn't get it right. With the long days I'm waking up early with blackout curtains, so hoping the blind will help.
