Light hearted to counter the worst stuff you've bought thread.

Me - two Kirby vacuums for under £200 delivered from eBay rather than £4k - one for each floor as they're bloody heavy. I may think of more as we go along

A fridge-freezer that doesn't ice up - the sheer pleasure I get from taking things out of the freezer without chipping them out of ice is amazing. A duel fuel heated towel rail, set so that it heats up every early morning.

Revlon One Step.

It makes my hair look really lovely when I use it after I've blow dried it. You can use it on wet hair but I like to dry it first then finish off the blow dry with the One Step.

I use it also on in between days when I don't wash it, just run it through my hair and it looks really good.

Had it about two years and if it broke tomorrow I'd order another one immediately.

Cassette blackout blinds. Only got them in our bedroom because of my DH’s night shifts. They sit in a groove and slide down, fitting beyond the window. They’re very effective.

Sage coffee machine. I love it but if I go anywhere without decent facilities, I’m ruined! I take a cafetière now and pre-ground beans.

You know there is a place on the handle where you lift them and then they are weightless right? Look down the stick, there's a point where you can fit two fingers in. Try lifting from there.

Robovacuum, spray mop.
Oven liners for bottom of oven.
Heated airer.

TubeScreamer · 08/06/2025 09:24

KitchenAid stand mixer. 25 years old and has been used a lot, but still going strong.

saltandvinegarchipsticks · 08/06/2025 09:32

Potato ricer. Perfect mash every time.

I have a Eufy floor cleaner that hoovers and mops the floors.
It empties itself and is completely wonderful.
It was my treat to myself when I moved into my current house and is definitely my favourite gadget.

Hi which model do you have? Is it good at avoiding obstacles?

my favourite thing is the boiling water tap!

Another one for instant boil tap.

And water softener.

Me too! We had our last water softener for fifteen years, in three houses. Got a new one at the end of last year, at the same time as the Quooker.

Extra deep Tempur mattress and wool duvet.

Have you tried wool pillows ? They are fantastic.

What’s the make and model of your super quiet washing machine please?!

It’s the Bosch Series 8 WIW28502GB - only had it a month but SO pleased with how quiet it is. Previously we had a noisy Indesit that was often breaking.

TheNinny · 08/06/2025 15:14

robot vacuum. People say they are shit but mine does do a pretty good job. I run it once a day and my carpets always look nice and hoovered for me coming in from work. I still do the proper hoover once a week (though sometimes its less 🙈) to get into the corners at weekends. It helps me not feel so stressed working full time with a young messy child during the week and makes it less hard at weekend as not as much guff accumulated.

It's the little things that make a difference for me.
Revolving spice racks that each hold 16 small jars.
A step-thingy that adds extra rows in cupboards & makes tins etc easier to see.

Please can you tell me which revolving spice rack you have? Thank you!

Tryonemoretime · 08/06/2025 15:26

We live in a hard water area so love our water softener and our water filter.

@Treesandsheepeverywhere

They're perfect fit metal blinds, that slot inside each separate frame. No drilling, they just clip in, but you do need to be pretty precise with your measurements when you order. We opted for the cream and they're nicely subtle.

www.blindsbypost.co.uk/

We did look at other blinds first, but we wanted to be able to open individual windows and one side of the French door. These enable us to do that without fiddling, the blind stays in place on the frame even when the windows are open.

Thank you so much for this, not keen on the screw ones and didn't know there was this option. 🙏
10% off too.

Bluevelvetsofa · 08/06/2025 17:40

We’ve got perfect fit blinds too. Just right for the patio doors. Other blinds flap when the doors are open, especially in this windy weather.

Ketzele · 08/06/2025 17:48

A dehumidifier. I live in a dripping cave.

CoubousAndTourmalet · 08/06/2025 17:53

@Treesandsheepeverywhere

Hopefully this gives an idea of how they look from inside. For us they've been a good buy.

Heat pump tumble dryer - cheap as chips to run

CCTV - it will pay for itself when my neighbour finally gets arrested

ILomu · 08/06/2025 18:55

Plug-in diffusers from the White Company., they also have a motion sensor light. I have them in my hallway and landing. Sadly they no longer make them.

No but I’ve looked at them for my sweaty headed son - which would you recommend?

fatimashortbread · 08/06/2025 20:34

My lockdown bought charcoal bbq

LizaRadleywasonthespectrum · 08/06/2025 20:40

I had two dishwashers in my previous kitchen. It did not work as expected with dirty dishes ending up with clean, emptying one and then refilling when the other was only half full. Ended up using one for storage of baking trays and one as it was intended.
