Light hearted to counter the worst stuff you've bought thread.

Me - two Kirby vacuums for under £200 delivered from eBay rather than £4k - one for each floor as they're bloody heavy. I may think of more as we go along

Lovely @thetorturedpoetsdepartmentssecretary , hope it fits and please post pics of possible 🙏.

So many of mine have already been mentioned! But I'll add, an electric mop. I used to hate the spray mops as it took alot of effort to really scrub at the floor but this... It does all the scrubbing for me while I basically just use slow hoovering motions, no effort at all! And I've just realised I've been using it twice a day as it's so easy to use.
...I remember when I used to be cool... It is a cool gadget though

An electric mop you say? What on earth is this? I need one!!

Sasha07 · 15/06/2025 19:14

@Tripthelightfantastical this is the one I have (but from Amazon, there's more reviews on there than Currys) and it's fab! I have carpal tunnel so after a particularly painful mopping session, I just typed it in and hoped they'd been invented! I didn't even know they existed 🤣 so you can imagine how excited I was to see this, good reviews and it's on sale!
Very quiet, works great, no issues at all with it. Just wish I bought it months ago!

I also have one and it's excellent, just ensure you have plenty of pads.

Tip, when fitting new pads, put them on the floor and plonk the cleaner on top.

Washing machine that takes a 8kg load.

Oh yes I’d forgotten that. When we had six adults in the house including four teens I bought a large capacity machine. It was a godsend for towels, linens and school shirts let alone the industrial quantities of teenage laundry when they are at the “change t-shirt every 15 minutes” phase. .

Blind received and fitted. It was so easy! It's a black out blind and really does the job. No photos at the moment because my cat has been stripping the walls around the window 😂

I really wish I'd had one when I had my four children at home. I have one now and it is great for large bedding as they don't get so crunched up.
My current best buy is a large outdoor table for my balcony. I have no outdoor drying space and I can lay a king sized duvet out flat over the table to dry without it touching the floor!

Thank you for the update. Good to hear you're pleased with them especially being easy to fit as I need ten.
🐱😅.

I just bought a Slumberdown 2.5 tog cover less duvet. Arrived just in time for the.heatwave and I'm very happy with it.

I’d love to claim credit for thinking of it but in fact the existing machine died (of exhaustion) as we were entering this stage. A friend with four said “whatever you buy, make it the largest capacity you can get”. I mentally thanked her weekly for several years 😀.

I have one of those Lakeland heated drying racks which I use on rainy days and it can take some quite sizeable items, but yes, king size duvets without drying space are a pain.

When my children were young I also had a lodger or two and worked full time, so doing the washing seemed to take up all my waking hours at home, we had our washer in the basement with hanging lines everywhere.
We have one of those great Lakeland racks in a holiday home which our extended family all share. It's ideal to dry the kids clothes and swimming kit overnight. The idea is also that people can do the bedding and towels before they leave but sadly they can't fit everything on it. I'm a bit nervous of having a tumble dryer there because I don't like to leave one running when nobody is there.
I do miss being able to hang washing outside at home.

Like many others my airfryer. It’s the dual drawer one from Ninja. I think I’d like the single drawer one that you can separate if you wish with a divider next and the kettle.

A Henry vacuum cleaner.

Miele washing machine.

SingleAHF · 15/07/2025 05:34

I have a three storey house with one central stair case. I bought and installed motion sensor ceiling lights which light the stairs and landings brightly for safety then switch themselves off when no person is detected, which saves money as people were always forgetting to switch them off.

My combi microwave. It’s a mini oven, grill and microwave all in one.

DilemmaDelilah · 15/07/2025 10:25

A very simple thing. Good kitchen knives. After over 40 years of using the same knives, which suited me down to the ground in shape and weight but were getting more and more difficult to sharpen, I bought some Briljera kitchen knives from IKEA. They give me such joy! Unfortunately they have stopped doing them.

I agree - love my freestanding Panasonic which I've had for years. Moved house and bought a built in Neff to match my oven, and it's terrible!

I'm still renovating but so far a curtain track at the ceiling in all the finished rooms so I've got floor to ceiling curtains. Black out blinds for the bedrooms.

Full room width french doors in two rooms.

I have great plans for the rest!

Dbank · 16/07/2025 08:15

A Water Softener, made a huge difference to keeping bathroom and kitchen clean.
Slightly surprised how few people have them, considering the running cost is around £1.50 a week.

Surely to buy new shower mats @SingleAHF ?!!
