Is your mind ever blown from realising who actors are in other things?

I am rewatching Orange is the New Black currently. Taslitz is one of my favourite characters and over a decade later I now learn that she's the lead role in Dead Silence (one of my favourite films).
I was the same when I realised Kirsten Dunst is the little girl vampire in 'Interview with the Vampire'.

I thought bob the builder was Neil Morrisey from men behaving badly !

He was, but Lee Ingleby also did it from 2015 - 2018.
I'm not his agent by the way, I had to look up the dates 😂

Mark Heap is always the person I think of when I see this question. Dr Statham in Green Wing is not a million miles from Jim in Friday Night Dinner, and that's the role I first saw him in after Spaced.

It was funny seeing him in The Trouble with Maggie Cole because he was still unmistakably himself, just not, er, insane!

Sgtmajormummy · 04/06/2025 17:56

I think if you took the cast of The Crown and start to draw lines to other TV series (plural) you’d end up with a spider’s web.
I’m rewatching Downton Abbey and Lady Edith’s editor/love interest, actor Charles Edwards, was QE2’s favourite attaché.

I suppose actors have to work and they can get typecast. But a shocker was Tom Cruise in Tropic Thunder.

Deano from Gavin and Stacey is Thomas the poet in ghosts. Matthew Baynton, I believe he's been in a lot of things.

And recently, Brian from spaced was Jim from Friday Night Dinner. Forget his name but he's in his 60s now which I also can't get my head around.

He’s sadly dead now.

No, he’s not. That’s Paul Ritter, who played Martin. Mark Heap is alive and well.

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 04/06/2025 18:02

If you’re mind is blown by these examples, wait till you watch Department Q, it’s full of Scottish actors that have you going “‘ere, she was in ....”( which zooms over dhs head as he’s shite at recognising actors.)

Realising that the ruthless assassin in Black doves was Paddington Bear (Ben Whishaw) . It's the hard stare that got me 😂

Edited

Ben Wishaw played a grown up Michael in Mary Poppins Returns

Oh god yeah, I was trying to imagine the mum(Tamsin Gregg another one that’s been in everything) going “Jimmmmm” but it not working.

Hugh Grant in Heretic on prime currently - very strange to see him in a thriller film!

I saw Erin Doherty in Call The Midwife after The Crown. She seemed vaguely familiar but I couldn't place her. Thank the lord for IMBD because I don't think I'd have got there myself. Her Princess Anne accent is so good it throws me every time I hear her without it.
I think a lot of 'older' female actors who are finally getting a lot of recognition suffer from being so good at disappearing into a role you can forget what else you've seen them in. Brilliant women like Monica Dolan and Lorraine Ashbourne.

That Tom Hardy was Jean Luc Picard’s clone in Star Trek Nemesis! 😱
My son has just been round and was recommending Mobland and said ‘did you know …… ?
I didn’t!! 😁

Jack Lowden, who plays River Cartwright in Slow Horses, was in this cracker of an Irn Bru advert.

(and the song still gets stuck in my head at least once a month)

Claire Skinner in Sleepy Hollow - that film has loads of well known British male actors, and I’ve seen it so many times - then last year - is that the mum from Outnumbered?!

Celestiel · 04/06/2025 18:17

And on another Tim Burton theme - Burn Gorman in the latest Beetlejuice Beetlejuice - he creeped me out in Bleak House many years ago, and tbh was the scariest character in Beetlejuice 2…

ScraptionoftheCost · 04/06/2025 18:18

I was watching an old episode of Doc Martin and thought I vaguely recognised the receptionist. It turned out about three weeks later Blush that it was Amanda from Motherland.

JustBec · 04/06/2025 18:19

Emily in The Handmaid’s Tale is Rory Gilmore!

Realizing that the Russian singer in the Eurovision movie was him from Downton Abbey

He's the Beast in Beauty and the Beast! 😮

Jeanette Goldsyein played private Vasques in Aliens and Teminaator 2 she played Janelle.
No way would you think they were played by 5he same person.

Yes! I was gobsmacked when my DS told me that.

Sometimeinadifferentworld · 04/06/2025 18:21

You mean your mind is blown by realising that actors can actually act?
Surely that's what their job is - morphing into different characters in differentl genres?

mepipesneedlagging · 04/06/2025 18:21

Oh, what about Stanley Tucci as the murderer in Lovely Bones 🤓
Mind blowing!

WonderingWanda · 04/06/2025 17:35

I only twigged this week whilst watching an old Goggle Box that Anna Maxwell Martin from motherland was Carmichael from Line of Duty.

And the vicar in the final gavin and stacey

Trinity69 · 04/06/2025 18:22

Katherine Hahn plays Michelle in How To Lose Guy in 10 Days but is also Carla in Bad Moms. Took me a while to figure out where I’d seen her before!

MoistVonL · 04/06/2025 18:23

SidekickSylvia · 04/06/2025 17:32

Took me far too long to recognise Moira Rose in Schitts Creek as the mum in Home Alone.

And the mum in Bettlejuice.

I’m never surprised by these as I have a stupid memory that remembers faces forever. I am more likely to piss off my family by running through a list of their other roles!

(eg Professor Quirrell also being John Lennon in Backbeat and the counsellor in My Big Fat Teenage Diary, for example)

Celestiel · 04/06/2025 18:26

Joseph Quinn is massively popular due to Strange Things - I first saw him in one of the series of Strike

He is, he's quite unrecognisable though because he's got a prosthetic nose and chin in it.
