It’s coming up to summer and I already hate the weather. It’s hot, muggy and just ugh.

I hate summer. It’s much easier to warm yourself up than it is to cool yourself off. You can always put more clothes on, but you can’t take more clothes off.

You struggle to sleep cos it’s so hot, and then you’re even more irritable because now not only are you hot and bothered, but you’re tired too.

No I don’t have air con cos I can’t bloody afford it. I have a plug in fan, than yeah works ok in the day but I don’t have it on overnight cos the breeze keeps me awake too.

I agree, it’s incredibly muggy

JenniferBooth · 22/06/2025 17:46

Doesn’t that make them smell a bit mildewey?

Christ. It’s barely 9am and it’s already hot as hell!!

Luckily, DD’s secondary school today and tomorrow have allowed all children to attend school in PE kits. No stuffy blazers or ties

School sounds sensible @Soubriquet . It's not so bad here atm. If it stayed like this all day it would be uncomfortable but bearable. I've a feeling though that by 2 or 3 o'clock it's going to be horrible.

Mikart · 30/06/2025 09:49

I have to go to London this morning. 2 and a quarter hours on train then tube for 25 mins. I've just changed my train back tomorrow to 7am. Fuck the expense.

Soubriquet · 30/06/2025 09:53

Don’t blame you

Now I know it’s hot. Normally the cat fucks off when my fan is on. She’s frightened of it. She’s actually laid next to me, in the path of the breeze purring.

Very warm here, 29 downstairs already in the house but clouding over here a bit so hopeful we won’t make the 34 forecast!

Soubriquet · 30/06/2025 15:21

I want to cry. I’m so hot. Sweaty. Headachy. My entire body aches. I’m really suffering with the heat

I'm with you there. I've got a list of things I should be doing but I can't move away from the fan. The poor dog is so restless, moving from one spot to another and panting. I keep checking the forecast and praying for change. It's just horrible.

WoodlandLove · 30/06/2025 16:29

I just want summer to be over. I can't wait for autumn and winter. I vastly prefer them in every way.

MissMarplesNiece · 30/06/2025 16:33

I'm hoping we've reached peak heat and its going to cool down now. I feel quite sick. I cancelled my piano lesson; I couldn't face leaving the house and last time it was this hot my hands were so sweaty my fingers kept sliding off the piano keys.

Annascaul · 30/06/2025 16:40

One day left, I’m afraid 😔
It’s forecast to break on Wednesday (thanks be to God).

I’m a Scot. I’m not built for heat. I’m built for cold, windy and wet days. Many of my favourite foods are cold weather foods. All my favourite clothes are cold weather clothes. I hate having hot feet. The sun hurts my eyes. I burn easily.

I love being cold and having to add layers to be warm.

I’m drinking more and adding electrolytes. Also lots of calippos being eaten (mini ones).

I'm Northern Irish with Scottish ancestry - similarly built!

I nearly cried in work today. I'm a cleaner. It was just awful. I felt so teary and sorry for myself. I feel sick and am just hidden away now infront of the fan. It's forecast to cool down a bit tomorrow but 20° is still way too hot for me and the house I'm cleaning tomorrow is always like a furnace.

DreadingToday · 30/06/2025 17:14

Loath and despise this heat. Countryside looks dried and crispy. The spring freshness has totally gone. 2 more months of this shit 🥵

Me too. Although I love Springtime. Bastard neighbours have all their doors open and loud music

Yes, I like spring, especially early spring. Unfortunately late spring is sometimes as hot as summer these days.
Autumn is my favourite I think - the light, the frost, the colours. November how I love you!

i had severe chest pain yesterday morning. i laid in bed and hoped for the best. i didnt want to go to an overheated hospital. i was ok by about 11am

MissMarplesNiece · 30/06/2025 18:10

I'm a bit confused about the advice I keep reading to keep windows and doors closed when it's very hot outside. I'm sure my flat just heats up like a greenhouse - even with curtains closed. I've just opened my backdoor after it's been closed all day and I'm sure it's already a bit cooler.

I think it’s psychological that you feel cooler with the breeze. My flat is both east and west facing so I get the morning sun on my bedroom windows and the evening sun on my living room, kitchen and bathroom, all the way until sunset every hot day in summer. I’ve learned that the only way to deal with this is leave every window and door open after the sun goes down, right up until just after daybreak at which point it’s the coolest it will be. Then. I close everything up again and wait until sunset. Rinse and repeat. It’s a fucking nightmare.

However, I have experimented over the years to see if it really is any better this way, and it gets even hotter with windows open. So as long as the outside temp is higher than inside, it’s a win with doors and windows closed. Bedroom currently 28 and outside 31. It would be well over 30 in here with windows open. A handful of degrees maybe, but that’s a few degrees less that the rooms have to cool overnight. Plus, if I’ve had windows open and the heat circulating it takes longer to cool down.

I Dread the summer and like many of you obsessively check the forecast. I get such fear when it’s like this.
