It’s coming up to summer and I already hate the weather. It’s hot, muggy and just ugh.

I hate summer. It’s much easier to warm yourself up than it is to cool yourself off. You can always put more clothes on, but you can’t take more clothes off.

You struggle to sleep cos it’s so hot, and then you’re even more irritable because now not only are you hot and bothered, but you’re tired too.

No I don’t have air con cos I can’t bloody afford it. I have a plug in fan, than yeah works ok in the day but I don’t have it on overnight cos the breeze keeps me awake too.

I’ve found my people. I find the current weather fucking unbearable, particularly living in London which turns into a sweaty hellhole the minute the temperature gets above about 25. My brain doesn’t work in the heat and I feel constantly anxious and on edge. Thank god there’s only one more day before it drops back down to 23 (would prefer cooler, but will take what I can get).

I think I have SAD but in hot weather. I've been OK so far this year and made the most of things but today I just want to curl up till it's all over. I've had several showers and apart from a quick emergency trip to a supermarket- lovely as air conditioning was on full blast and the shortest possible dog walk I've done nothing. I'm usually on the go constantly but cancelled my gym class and my step count is minimal. I feel sick, sweaty, bloated and depressed in this hot weather and am just trying to get past tomorrow, when temperatures may hopefully drop! Roll on Autumn

It's a funny thing about seasons - they make our environments seem literally like different worlds.

MissMarplesNiece · 30/06/2025 20:21

I saw a couple out running earlier. I'm sure that would go against all medical advice.

JenniferBooth · 30/06/2025 20:28

My back feels like ive got sunburn. But i dont sunbathe and havent even been out

MissMarplesNiece · 30/06/2025 21:30

I think we have reached the point where these heatwaves, year after year, are going to start to effect the economy in a negative way. I don't know what can be done about it though.

Yep i need a few clothing bits from Bonmarche but its a concession in a local department store and its absolutely stifling in there so im not going to bother. Feel sorry for all the staff.
This is a tiny example but it will be multiplied because i wont be the only one feeling this way.

A report on local TV news tonight was talking about how no one is going to garden centres because its too hot to be outside gardening and any plants people buy are too difficult to look after in the heat (watering etc). Also lack of grass to feed sheep & cows so farmers are having to use hay etc that they'd normally use in winter. That's going to end up putting food prices up.

I'm sure a person working in a business where there's no air con, will be less productive and more tired.

As you say @JenniferBooth , these will be being multiplied many times over.

And yet we apparently can create rain clouds and we are planning on spraying our atmosphere with reflective particles to block some of the sun so why are we baking in a heatwave?

Newstartplease24 · 01/07/2025 14:36

I feel sick, my stomach is so unwell in this weather.

Do you really want them fucking around with weather systems? I don't.

Me neither. Like a lot of "interventions" to try & control aspects of the natural world, it has the potential to go horribly wrong.

JenniferBooth · 01/07/2025 16:58

Colchester council has cancelled refuse collections due to the heat

MissMarplesNiece · 01/07/2025 17:22

Won't the rubbish just start to smell in the hot weather? Although I do appreciate that working in the heat can be dangerous to health. I saw a postman walking past my house this morning wearing long trousers and a long sleeved shirt. I felt really sorry for him.

My postman wears shorts in winter!

A lot more businesses and educational establishments are going to have to invest in aircon. They should also invest in solar and battery storage at the same time.

Architects should also be designing new build housing with air con and solar to offset.

too late for the department store i mentioned earlier. They are closing in October due to lack of footfall. No air con wont have helped

DarkLene · 01/07/2025 17:54

The issue with everyone getting aircon fitted as standard is that it’s really bad for the environment so it’s a vicious circle.

Maybe that was his choice? Our postman wears shorts all year round and I've seen many other postmen doing the same.

The regular postman at work wears shorts all year round until heatwaves, when he covers up entirely to avoid getting burned/heatstroke.
