Heat haters unite! (Heat lovers bugger off)

It’s coming up to summer and I already hate the weather. It’s hot, muggy and just ugh.

I hate summer. It’s much easier to warm yourself up than it is to cool yourself off. You can always put more clothes on, but you can’t take more clothes off.

You struggle to sleep cos it’s so hot, and then you’re even more irritable because now not only are you hot and bothered, but you’re tired too.

No I don’t have air con cos I can’t bloody afford it. I have a plug in fan, than yeah works ok in the day but I don’t have it on overnight cos the breeze keeps me awake too.

I can’t stand it when I shower and wash my hair and within minutes, I’m sweaty and feeling gross. I even shower with just warm water and finish off with 30 seconds of cold.
South East of England and South East Water have announced a hosepipe ban from next Friday 🙄

CalicoPusscat · 11/07/2025 13:11

It's dire here, I got back and don't want to go out again. Who would! Well heat lovers I guess.

There's no breeze and it's nearly 30.

Zippymonkey · 11/07/2025 13:14

It’s 33 here already. I was very keen to get some rest from the heat next week but our forecast is between 27-30 until at least 24th July which is as far as predicted at moment. Our house is 26 and above even first thing in the morning and has been for weeks. It was 34 in our bedrooms last night again. I could cry (and my 3 year old DS was crying)!
I’m also sorry to be moaning as I want to love it but between the heat and the hayfever that stops me opening windows at night or going outside in evening i’m feeling pretty miserable and exhausted.
I really need to look into colder places to live, lots of recommendations for Scotland and it’s lovely cool weather.

CalicoPusscat · 11/07/2025 13:35

@Zippymonkey that sounds uncomfortable 🙁

You're not alone

LillyPJ · 11/07/2025 13:54

@bookworm14 I find it depressing too. I'm a keen gardener but so many things are struggling in the heat and the lawn is brown and crunchy. Roll on, autumn...

Berlinlover · 11/07/2025 13:56

I’m on holiday in Madeira at the moment and it’s cooler here than at home in Ireland. I’m happy to be missing the heatwave at home.

Even worse for those with hosepipe bans now 😞.
Getting people saying they’ll ignore it and continue to fill pools, hot tubs etc but it’s making me worry that they will drain wha little there is left and we’ll have standpipes installed. My garden would truly suffer then and I’m angry at people .

Optimustime · 11/07/2025 16:30

I don't understand why there wasn't a hosepipe ban weeks ago. You could see it coming a mile off.

People don't give a monkeys just as long as they get to do what they want in their own little patch.

Foolsgold74 · 11/07/2025 16:44

I took the dog out at 7am to a local river for a lovely cool walk. Back in the house by 9am and have just sat inside infront of the fan all day.

Abracadabra12345 · 11/07/2025 16:54

I was lucky enough to spend the day in air conditioned underground and overground trains and a cold (yes, really!) venue. Now I’m home with my bare feet on grass under the shade of our overgrown hedging.

I do wonder if these heatwaves will turn around the trend for artificial grass and “outdoor rooms” but I doubt it

Like another pp I’m in the SE / London area so there will be little respite.

Moving to Scotland sounds very tempting although I think it has its own challenges of climate change though heatwaves isn’t one of them (apart from now!)

LowDownBoyStandUpGuy · 11/07/2025 17:32

My garden thermometer has been reading 29 here in the west of Scotland today but the heat is to be replaced with torrential rain by Monday. We do get it hot from time to time but thankfully it doesn’t seem to last long, we are just not set up for the heat at all.

I have been browsing all the new autumnal decor coming into stock online today to go to my happy place of cool foggy days.

I have nothing but sympathy for those stuck with this weather longer term.

Urgh the thought of artificial grass at the moment! Bet it’s unusable at these temperatures.
Truly vile stuff.

Yes I agree! Lots of photos of very empty reservoirs and only 55% capacity apparently.

As ive stated on other threads i have a bath. Bloody been there since the1980s. The HA have refused to install a shower twice. Now a leak has been reported back in MAY and the fuckers refused to attend until 16th July so i will be moving my toileties and nothing else. a. they dragged it into a heatwave and. b. the amount of water ive had to use is astronomical Instead of pestering ppl over hosepipes perhaps they should look into how many ppl are having to use more water through no fault of their own.

I totally agree and would really like the water industry to be nationalised as the current companies are all about profit.

Fact remains though that we are in water crisis right now and people are ignoring it.

It’s really bad they they won’t install a shower - could you fit a metal diverter valve on the tap if you have a mixer tap? Or even install a mixer tap yourself?
the valve thingies only cost about £6 on Amazon and you can fit a normal shower hose and head to it.

The bath is rusting and really needs replacing. the bathroom needs tiling all the way up to the ceiling, there are only two rows of tiles above the bath, its two separate taps

Currently have a lovely cool breeze coming in through the window. My house is kinda on the outskirts of the town so there are fields and a river behind me and the breeze comes over those. It’s lovely.

I still feel ill from the heat though. Hate it. I know people can get SAD in winter but I swear you can get SAD in summer

A report on local TV news tonight was talking about how no one is going to garden centres because its too hot to be outside gardening and any plants people buy are too difficult to look after in the heat (watering etc). Also lack of grass to feed sheep & cows so farmers are having to use hay etc that they'd normally use in winter. That's going to end up putting food prices up.

I'm sure a person working in a business where there's no air con, will be less productive and more tired.

As you say @JenniferBooth , these will be being multiplied many times over.

Spotted an advert on TV for Furniture Village i think it was
At the end across the screen "All our stores are fully air conditioned"

You can absolutely get SAD in summer! Everyone's different.

Completely unrelated, but d'you remember the Shitmums Unite FB group? We were both on there!

IJWMM · 11/07/2025 22:54

regarding lawns looking dead, dry and crispy - there really is no need to water them, so completely understand a ban on watering them. Grass does all of its work underground, just leave it alone and it will bounce back.

Those crazy temperatures in 2022 - my back lawn looked like the savannah, especially with the cats mooching through it. A few weeks into autumn and it was completely back to normal. IMO, the only justification for watering a lawn is if you’ve just had new turf laid.

WoodlandLove · 12/07/2025 04:10

Someone please make this stop! 🥵
I was so hot in the night I had to get up and have a cool shower. Doubt I'll go back to bed now.
I'm dreaming of rain... We need a thunderstorm asap ⛈️

Foolsgold74 · 12/07/2025 07:39

48 hours left of it I'm afraid. Got a hellish weekend about to hit. I'm currently sat in the garden whilst it's still cool but will then spend the rest of the day inside infront of the fan...again. So fed up with being confined to barracks.

LillyPJ · 12/07/2025 09:14

I've got to go to a matinee at the theatre this afternoon (niece in her first play so I want to see and support her) but have already had an email from the theatre warning that their ancient air-conditioning can't really cope. I've just spent about an hour trying to fold a paper fan!
