Absolutely appalling behaviour, totally unacceptable.

Uricon2 · 26/05/2025 14:17

When people do things like this in public (like Saachi's hand around Nigella's throat, horrible) you do have to wonder what on earth goes on in private.

OvaHere · 26/05/2025 14:20

From the DM article. Ridiculous rebuttal. Russian bots are certainly an issue in some circumstances but I hate this pattern of blaming them for inconvenient truths. I remember a similar narrative with Biden when anyone with eyes could clearly see his cognitive and physical issues.

Macron's office initially denied the authenticity of the images, before they were confirmed as genuine.
A close associate of the president later described the incident as a couple's harmless 'squabble'.
An Elysee official played down the moment, denying it showed an argument between the couple, who have been married since 2007: 'It was a moment when the president and his wife were relaxing one last time before the start of the trip by having a laugh.'
'It was a moment of closeness,' the official said.
Another member of his entourage played down the significance of the incident.
'It was a moment when the president and his wife were decompressing one last time before the start of the trip by joking around,' the second source told reporters.
'It's a moment of togetherness. No more was needed to feed the mills of the conspiracy theorists,' the source added, blaming pro-Russian accounts for negative comments about the incident.

She clearly hits him - in a very public venue - probably was't fully aware cameras there but clearly others on plane are and she still hit him. He's clearly uspet and pacing away from her.

I've no idea why that's being condoned - I've never hit DH in any row we've ever had.

I've no idea what led there but their relatonship started with a massive power inbalance - and I've no idea why it's inappropriateness is so glossed over.

Birdsinginginthetrees · 26/05/2025 14:22

Just imagine if this was Melania and Trump. The press would have a field day.

TheWeeDonkeyFella · 26/05/2025 14:23

I often wonder if he'd be as politically supported if he had been the much older teacher hooking up with his young female pupil.

It's such an odd relationship. Not the age gap so much, but the circumstances around the way they met (teenager/40 Yr old married teacher). If the relationship is abusive, it wouldn't surprise me.

I was going to say this: they've always creeped me out.

Agreed.

Definitely a power imbalance or sorts in the relationship.

This footage is pretty shocking

Having seen the bruises on my DAD from my <cough> mother I can see exactly where this will end.

Although, the bruises on my back and arse at her hands were pretty well hidden too.

I'm so sorry @JoshLymanSwagger .

IwantmyReptv · 26/05/2025 14:25

It appears to be a marriage of convenience that has disintegrated very badly.
I very much doubt the "mistress" part.

Hedwigowl · 26/05/2025 12:44

It looks to me like a mum desperately trying to rub marmite off their son's face before he runs off into school rather than a slap.

His reaction suggests to me that it isn’t that. I think he looked embarrassed.

NewMoonToday · 26/05/2025 14:26

Oh FGS it looks playful to me. She's using two hands to kind of rub his face.
Lot of fuss about nothing.

I 💯agree re it being a very odd relationship - the way it started and the big age gap.
If the teacher was male and the pupil was female ……………….🤔🤔🤔
If I was the parent of the boy in that situation I would be apoplectic very unhappy.

I've just watched it off the back of this thread expecting clear cut violence, but I didn't see it. It looked like it took him by surprise but not that it was necessarily violently intentioned.

I disagree. I think two hands makes it look violent. One hand you could be reaching to get something off someone’s face, you slightly misjudge, they turn at the wrong time, and accidentally your hand has hit with more force.
But I can’t think of a reason I’d use two hands against DH’s face like that, other than shoving him,

Did you manage to keep a straight face when you typed that?

.. I’ve just gone down a whole internet rabbit hole now 😂 the whole set ups weird between them tbh.

I'm so sorry @JoshLymanSwagger .

Thanks. It was a lifetime ago.

My dad never said a word - he took it to his grave.

She died bitter and alone.

LateForMyOwnFuneral · 26/05/2025 14:30

Oof.
Not playful or squabbling.
She's physically aggressive in that footage.

@OvaHere I cannot understand why people thought Biden stumbling or struggling with his speech was funny. Some people can be so cruel.

Todaywasbetter · 26/05/2025 14:31

a load of nothing

EasternStandard · 26/05/2025 14:32

Bizarre and to be caught as he is being filmed

NewMoonToday · 26/05/2025 14:32

All I can see is two hands lightly rubbing his face.

This is the gutter press trying to whip up a storm.

AuxArmesCitoyens · 26/05/2025 14:33

Interestingly, domestic violence has been one of the Macron government's key causes, they have put lots of measures in place.

I remember people saying the same about Saatchi.

Macron's reaction and their demeanour as they exit the plane is not that of a couple who have just been having a laugh.

They've admitted it was a 'squabble'.
