I’m sure no other couples in the public eye have ever had a row - reaaaaaly shocking -not

I’m sorry you aren’t shocked to see a person physically assault their partner in public- that implies this sort of thing is normal to you and that is a real shame for you. For the vast majority of people this is a shocking thing to see- because it isn’t normal and it isn’t ok.

So you don't think domestic abuse is shocking? Would you find it acceptable if your partner did this to you?

From what I’ve heard it’s unlikely to be a mistress.

What have you heard and where from ?

Maybe he hit her first

If a man was filmed hitting his wife, would your first thought be that she might have hit him first?

We don't know the full facts here, so we can only go on what we've seen, and that is that Brigitte Macron quite clearly hit her husband.

Domestic violence is every bit as wrong when it is perpetrated by a woman against a man. Please don't attempt to minimise it just because the perpetrator is female.

JoshLymanSwagger · 26/05/2025 14:03

TheignT · 26/05/2025 14:00

Hard for some to accept the man isn't always the one in the wrong.

Having seen the bruises on my DAD from my <cough> mother I can see exactly where this will end.

Although, the bruises on my back and arse at her hands were pretty well hidden too.

Possibly a domestic abuser herself/himself.

Are you new to Mumsnet?

There are always vile posts excusing female violence.

Some people tie themselves into a pretzel making excuses for it.

No, not new. Not exactly surprised, either. But yes, disturbed that some are so happy to argue against the evidence before their eyes.

PlutoCat · 26/05/2025 14:03

OvaHere · 26/05/2025 14:00

If she's done this so close to an open plane door with cameras everywhere then she's very comfortable with this level of casual violence. It's not going to be the first time is it?

I agree. It reminds of when Nigella Lawson's ex-husband casually abused her in public.

I feel really sorry for Macron.

Honon · 26/05/2025 14:03

I've just watched it off the back of this thread expecting clear cut violence, but I didn't see it. It looked like it took him by surprise but not that it was necessarily violently intentioned.

I can't think of a single reason why I would use both hands to shove my husband's face like that.

arcticpandas · 26/05/2025 14:05

He was clearly groomed from the outset, he being her 15 year old student, friends with her daughter. When can we buy "Free Macron" t-shirts?

Really? I've watched it several times, and I can't see any other way of interpreting it. What do you think she is doing if not hitting him?

It's such an odd relationship. Not the age gap so much, but the circumstances around the way they met (teenager/40 Yr old married teacher). If the relationship is abusive, it wouldn't surprise me.

This

Its a very weird relationship I wouldn’t be at all pleased if this was one of my kids wound up in a marriage like this

Allseeingallknowing · 26/05/2025 14:06

bridgetreilly · 26/05/2025 13:18

Married couple have a row shocker! I really don’t think we know anything about wha5 this does or doesn’t imply about their relationship. It wasn’t a punch.

It is a shocker when it’s someone of high status, viewed by millions!

It would be a shocker to me if it were Tracey the dinner lady and Dave the mechanic from round the corner. That behaviour is unacceptable no matter what the couples status.

Me too.

I have recently been supporting a male member of my team who has finally left his abusive wife after several decades of violence and abuse. It is heartbreaking to hear what he has been through and to see how hard it has been for him to admit what was going on. I think many people struggle to really believe that men can be the victims of domestic abuse. We need to take it seriously and name it for what it is.

hotpotlover · 26/05/2025 14:10

I always found their age gap creepy and the circumstances of their romance

OneQuickMauveBiscuit · 26/05/2025 14:11

This thread is horrendous.

Excusing her, blaming him, questioning his sexuality , joking about domestic abuse.

Anyone belittling him or excusing her or her actions needs to have a strong word with themselves. Yes we don’t know the details, but we can see her being physical towards him. Deciding - with no substance - that he is cheating or maybe not be heterosexual does not make that okay.

Sorry to body shame, but does anyone else think Mme Macron's legs are like matchsticks when she is descending the plane steps? I can't stop looking at them.

Yes I did! So thin!

Mrsbloggz · 26/05/2025 14:13

That was very 'in your face' wasn't it 😬

oh well, that’s alright then Hmm

VisitationRights · 26/05/2025 14:14

It’s a horrible clip and even worse when slowed down. This was a violent action not a playful move.

arcticpandas · 26/05/2025 14:14

I think they need some communication help in the gouvernment ; they are referring to this incident as a "tender moment". Seriously? It would have been better if they'd just said "Oh, Manu agreed to a tedious dinnerparty she didn't want to attend without asking her first so she was annoyed" or something. But "close, tender moment"? That's when you know there is something to cover up.

I thought they’d admitted it was due to a row now?
