I’ve been enjoying Milliband’s wife’s NIMBY row.

Too many noisy heat pumps, too dense development, not in keeping with the character of the area apparently, while the rest of us are all expected to rejoice at yet another
flats behemoth.

Yes it's brilliant 🤣

Haha just saw this article. Hilarious.

Okay, I have some good news. Or I think it's good news at least. It's controversial, so it's risky and may set the cat among the pigeons. But, on Monday, ministers had the good sense not to progress proposals by the Law Commission which pushed for relaxations in the law around surrogacy in this country and putting it on a par with assisted conception. It's aim was to untether surrogacy from the understanding that it is a highly unethical problematic practice that should remain highly regulated.

This was the proposal which, just quietly, has been shelved.

Yes this is a controversial one isn't it, but I welcome it personally. Thanks for sharing.

Suddenly Labour supporters are interested in the immigration debate. Not ‘culture wars’ anymore.

I honestly couldn’t loathe the hypocrisy more.

Some have said they don’t like the switch which at least is more principled than Starmer. The rest it took about two minutes to update.

EasternStandard · 14/05/2025 10:59

Although they’re still backing Labour so not that principled..

TheNuthatch · 14/05/2025 11:28

It is odd. Like an enmeshed relationship, but with a politician Hmm

OP posts:
EasternStandard · 14/05/2025 11:32

It’s so odd and dependent. They get upset if people are ‘mean’ about Starmer despite doing the same to others for years.

Why? It’s just a bunch of craven politicians trying to save their polling.

What bugs me the most is that they still won't blame Starmer. He has fucked up on an epic scale, yet it's everyone else's fault. His comms aren't the problem, he is!
The more air time Starmer gets, the more unpopular he becomes. * *

It's a pattern, isn't it? Whether it's the wfa, WASPI women, disability benefits or now on immigration - I'm amazed at how far Labour supporters are prepared to follow Starmer to the right.

And absolutely no concern that they are now bigots, that they are being manipulated by the puppeteering strings of unseemly rhetoric or any other accusations that were levied at the working class who had, until three days ago, unspeakable concerns.

Upstartled · 14/05/2025 11:50

What's that thing that Orwell said about if you can get people to willing repeat a lie then you can get them to loyally say any old shit - I may be paraphrasing 😁

EasternStandard · 14/05/2025 11:51

It’s nuts every few days there’s more and they follow.

The only saving grace is it seems to be an mn thing. There’s more not posting who loathe him. For good reason.

Just looking at a map that extrapolates the local election votes to show a wipe out for them at GE level.

It's not my line unfortunately, so can't claim credit. It's Thatcher from the 70s. Still happy to hear Kemi use it, I think she's reading our thread!

Tg for this thread

Upstartled · 14/05/2025 13:19

Oh don't, it's such a long time.

I can't believe things are quite so bad and it hasn't even been a year yet. Some economists were suggesting that the country might see a further 200,000 redundancies before the full effect of the Labour knee kicking of business is fully absorbed.

EasternStandard · 14/05/2025 14:00

It’s the Labour promoters, I can’t even, bad enough with the actual politicians.

Upstartled · 14/05/2025 14:11

I'm convinced that some people take to politics like it's a faith based belief system were your ability to suspend your disbelief and remain loyal, even and especially set against all known evidence, is considered a test of your dedication to the cause.

EasternStandard · 14/05/2025 14:27

It must be an mn thing in particular. A group of Labour loyalists.

You can see from GEs loads of people switch parties. Extrapolating the local elections nearly wipes red off the map at GE level. People will switch, they already are.
