Out of all the things happening people seem fixated on a post on mn. Look to the PM and those words if you need something that has impact.

Exactly! He's regurgitating Enoch Powell ffs!

I've also seen a labour supporters use the disappearance of Maddy McCann as tory attack fodder, and poster using the word Deform to describe people they don't like.

Yes, you're right. It's not just the delivery that isn't authentic. The empty vessel analogy is apt. I wonder which Starmer we'll get tomorrow?

I would have been as direct about the same comments directed to anyone in government but I am here to talk about politics and won't be derailed further.

EasternStandard · 12/05/2025 22:39

It’s quite interesting to see which Labour posters are backing Starmer still.

Plus I wonder on Reform voters if they’d stick to voting for them.

Perhaps Keir is limbering up with his island of strangers speech to cross the floor and join reform?

I don't think it will help Starmer where I live. He's a laughing stock. I can only guess from the people I know, but my entire bubble are ex labour voting northerners who now support Farage. Farage is the real deal, whereas Starmer is a pretender who has just screwed over the elderly and the vulnerable. I'm the odd one out amongst my friends and family as I can't stand Farage.
It may be different in other areas where tories are the dominant persuasion.

Brutal 🫣 Forgot about the picture delay. Front page of the Daily Mail running with 'Labour's taking us all for fools'.

I’m in London it’s very red here and has been for ages so it’s hard to say.

Going by DM btl comments, which is the flip side to Labour loyals on mn, they pretty much think he’s lying and toast.

Interesting. Is it a different kind of red there? More liberal Corbynista types, rather then working men's club labour up north? I hope that makes sense, not being offensive, I just think there are two versions of labour supporter.

I also think he's lying, and toast!

Everybody here (Tory held constituency in the north - a situation so rare that it is practically outing) is so reluctant to talk about politics that I can't be sure which way the wind is blowing.

You need to do a vox pop 😁.
This is why I love politics, I'm fascinated by the different voting patterns depending on where people live. I've always been the odd one out where I live. When I first met Andy Burnham, my idiot DH introduced me as 'my little tory' 🙄.

I hope you're battle ready for tomorrow morning 💪

Haha he really is repugnant.

Yes maybe a bit different here to working men type but I just nodded and smiled if anyone rhapsodised pre GE about Starmer. Only a few very close get political stuff. And I have you lot 😬

DancingFerret · 12/05/2025 23:43

Richard Littlejohn in today's DM (I know) on Starmer's duplicity:

Mypinkchequebookholder · 13/05/2025 07:24

I like Richard Littlejohn.

He's witty.

I can remember years ago he wrote a piece about how Labour had sent out a space probe, to look for intelligent life on John Prescott.....😆

But on the whole Labour have lost the Woking mens club voters!
I honestly think it's only metropolitan elite ie champagne socialist types (aka MN) who will still vote Labour. Red Wall is gone that's for sure

@twistyizzyyes you are probably right there. I think a few are clinging on to local elections being more Tory to Reform. Wales will be interesting.

Upstartled · 13/05/2025 08:03

Does anyone have a subscription with the Times? There's an article in which Mandelson has some opinions about the rise of reform but I am paywalled out.

Edit: Much easier morning today thanks Nuthatch! 😁 Not sure I'm up to a vox pop but will attempt covert earwigging.

Upstartled · 13/05/2025 08:38

HMRC data shows we've lost 152,000 PAYE jobs since the general election, 33,000 in April alone. 😳

It's a bit of a puff piece where Mandy plays down Reforms gains by saying in the local elections following 97 Labour lost loads of council seats after winning a stonking majority the year before.

He doesn't mention that modern day Labour have no stonking majority to act as a buffer but he does acknowledge the threat of Farage.

The rest of the short article is about Mandys work in the US and whereas he previously called Trump a bully he how considers him 'a rather gracious individual.....he is funny'.

From what I've seen of Mandy over the years, I would imagine it's getting this last bit out there is equally if not more important that supporting Keir Starmer 😂

Upstartled · 13/05/2025 09:05

Oh brill, thanks. I was almost tempted to go to the shop and buy a paper but that isn't as meaty as I hoped.

I don't think Labour started loosing seats straight away though, did they? (Just had a chat with chatgpt) They held the Wigan by-election in 1999 and had a few mid-term set backs - they weren't sinking like a stone 10 months later.

EasternStandard · 13/05/2025 09:09

Good summary I don’t subscribe either.

There was a chart on popularity at first by election. Blair miles in front, Starmer the other end behind everyone else.

I can’t believe the dime people turn on because Starmer says it. Why are some on mn so loyal to someone so loathed.

Upstartled · 13/05/2025 09:13

'Loosing', oh the shame and too late to edit 🫣

There are so many U turns from Labour lately that the party is starting to look like the Wild Mouse at the fairground !

Good morning. This weeks Yougov/Sky poll:

Reform 28
Labour 23
Cons 18
LD 16
GR 9

I heard Robert Jenrick on Sky this morning. He is supportive of Starmers 'island of strangers' comment yesterday. I'm sure Starmer and his supporters will thrilled to have Robert Jenrick on their team.
