So much spittle-flecked outrage and a determined effort to turn this to a racism witchhunt.

I just typed a great long post in response, but I see that 'spittle flecked outrage' has done the job perfectly in three simple words. I have mentally banked that for shameless plagiarisation another time.😁

Yanking it back to the subject of this thread, explosions in Jammu. Pakistan's defence minister says they will attack. https://www.theguardian.com/world/live/2025/may/08/india-pakistan-kashmir-latest-live-news

I was wrong yesterday. As someone said on X, a country with a 7% economic growth rate has much to lose in war. A country with no economy has nothing to lose.

Multiple blasts reported after Pakistan’s defence minister Khawaja Asif says attack on India ‘increasingly certain’

I am glad at least Marco Rubio.has called the attacks ' terrorist attacks" rather than rebel attacks as so much of the Western press did.

@miraxxx

"It helps to be close-knit and small communities. I really feel for the british white girls who do not have the support of the government and other institutions even today"

@Sroia

"Yes, it’s sad that the white girls who had their lives ruined were the most vulnerable in our society. They had no one to keep an eye out on them unlike the Hindu and Sikh girls 😢"

Historically the values of close knit communities keeping an eye out for vulnerable teenagers was also prevalent in white working class families, before it became seen as "uncool " or "interfering".

I think a lot can be learned or "re learned" regarding local communities and looking out for one another from Hindu and Sikh values.

Oh I wasn’t necessarily criticising white communities. It was my belief that a lot of the girls came from broken families where there were very serious problems like addiction. A significant number were from foster care from my understanding. So sad. Just let down by everyone. God it makes me angry!

Gosh can we have another thread for Rotherham?

@mumof5andfat

"I use the word ‘apparent’ because the poster was implying that the whole of Pakistan was involved in the raping of young white girls "

Just a point of correction here. The previous poster absolutely did not state "that the whole of Pakistan was involved in the raping of young white girls" - you just made that up.

The previous poster instead referred to the Pakistani grooming gangs, which clearly referred to the sex crimes in the UK (rather than grooming gangs in Pakistan itself targeting young white girls).

Therefore your use of the word "apparent" clearly shows that you are not convinced that the sex crimes including rape of "young white girls" by grooming gangs actually happened.

💯

I always wonder why Muslim men and women are so silent on the matter. THEY are best placed to denounce the behaviours and attitudes which allowed the rapes to happen. They should be the ones screaming from the rooftops that this horrific behaviour is not acceptable. I’m talking about the everyday Muslim. Not the faith leaders who made statements on the gangs

Yes. And I don’t recall much condemnation of 9/11, 7/7, Manchester Arena, Westminster Bridge, and so on, from those quarters.

The silence was and is deafening.

Please and talk about the feckless parents who take no care of their own children.

Sroia · 08/05/2025 21:34

I need to get off twitter. The Western media is so fucking racist. A CNN anchor asked the Indian ambassador is this “a case of Muslims and Hindus not getting on”

Are you joking me? No it’s a case of a country defending itself against terrorism.

It is not just dumb brown people who can’t get on. India has been ignoring Pakistani provocations for years.

How come the same wasn’t said about Ukraine and Russia?

India doesn’t want to spend billions on this war. It has economic development targets. It isn’t going to set off nuclear weapons for the fucking fun of it

miraxxx · 09/05/2025 04:02

India and China are the only two nuclear powers that have committed to a No First Use nuclear policy. Pakistan and Nato countries have refused to commit to a NFU policy. The hysteria in the west is amusing in the light of this. European nations were less than robust in their defence of Ukraine because of fears over Russian nuclear weapons.

I wonder if the British people who think both sides are equally bad will condemn British pakistanis accosting ordinary Indians on its streets. If you find Indians doing the same, the condemnation should be as forthright.

I covered the Leicester Riots before the british media did so and found a number of very aggressive British muslim provocateurs online. I didn't find the British indian/hindutva equivalent. When C4 finally deigned to visit Leicester, it used one of the worst of these characters, Majid Freeman, as its "community guide". The NYT blindly repeated the assertion that he was a benevolent community activist. It too months for the police and courts to catch up with him and charge him with aiding and abetting terrorism and his actions in Leicester. Here is a British pro-terror group praising him as a hero.

https://5pillarsuk.com/2024/09/09/majid-freeman-jailed-for-public-order-offence-during-leicester-riots/

It is no surprise that the UK produces so many extremists and now experiences communal riots- ignorance, handwringing "both sides" equivalence and an ingrained fear of islamists is to blame.

I think the liberal left in the West are having some difficulty or catching up to do and need some time to decide who the good guys and bad guys are.

Of course the liberal left will ultimately want to support Pakistan, being the relatively militarily weaker, economically smaller and less populous of the two countries. The point of who started the conflict is irrelevant to the liberal left.

However another challenge is that there are no Jews involved, it wouldn't necessarily be a problem to replace the words "Jew and Zionist" with "Hindu and Hindutva " except that Indians inconveniently have "brown faces" which could open up accusations of racism which the liberal left really don't want.

So you have to appreciate that it's all terribly difficult for the liberal left to process at the moment. They will get there eventually in their support of Pakistan but it will take time.

That said in order to help the liberal left speed up their decision on picking the "oppressed " side to support it would be incredibly helpful if Indians especially in the UK could please temporarily wear some "white face" to make it clearer to the liberal left that they are "the bad guys".

Many thanks

On Sky news yesterday, I believe India's envoy to the UK pointed out that the funerals of the terrorists killed by the strikes were attended by Pakistani officials. The same ones who argued that they had no idea there were terrorists in their country! It's baffling that the media is still musing about whether Pakistan really sponsors terrorism.

The problem is that the Western media hears " India's right wing government" and loses their capacity for critical thinking. Pakistani state sponsored terrorism has gone on for 25 years. Even when India's government was granola left wing. The Jaish-E-Mohammed wants an Islamic Caliphate extending across Asia. It's not just about Kashmir.

JaneFondue · 09/05/2025 09:03

Also very worrying that China and Turkey have come to Pakistan's aid.

China have been a big supplier of weapons to Pakistan for quite a few years now so their support isn't that suprising TBH.

JaneFondue · 09/05/2025 09:15

Not surprising no, but was hoping they would back off this time.

We’re not very good at hearing these aims and taking them seriously, well some of the public, media, politicians etc

Do you think things feel less nervy since a few days have passed or still could flare up? Might be hard to say

JaneFondue · 09/05/2025 09:37

I think it's going to get worse and there will be many more civilian casualties.😓
There is so much fake news, some spread by Indian TV channels too. Very hard to verify.

Indian media is very excitable and highly prone to bias, esp the horrible tv channels. But you do get news in English from a wide political spectrum. Like with all news these days, you need to read from numerous sources and be very circumspect about what you take on board.

pottylolly · 09/05/2025 09:43

Pakistan has lost all control of it’s borders. Officials have no idea when anyone is planning a terror attack but instead of admitting that they’re blaming India for what looks like a correct retaliation. China and Turkey should have stayed out of this

Pakistan is facing extremely serious revolts in Balochistan and Khyber-Paktunkwa. Its economy is non existent and its people are extremely angry that their popular choice of PM, Imran Khan has been locked up in prison. Their highcourt just ruled that civilians can be tried in military courts, going against their own constitution -just take a moment to think about this and you will realise what a crazy farked up country we are dealing with. Do western media ever mention the details of what goes on there? Why not?

"Do western media ever mention the details of what goes on there? Why not? "

Quite simply because the western media is scared of being accused of Islamophobia or racism against Pakistan if they did.

So instead they say nothing.

Our Pakistani neighbour with two degrees works for a bank many of us use detecting hackers. He says his country will rule India soon because they're smarter. We don't debate with him on this.
