Reported your post @OneTaupeSloth

Me too. Horrid.

What on earth are you on about.
This is false news , the vast majority of Kashmiris are Muslims - they rely on tourism why would they do this? Upcoming elections in India have so much to do with this- and their far right government. Pakistan couldn’t even organise a piss up in a brewery.
indian govt needs to get their own house in order - their default is to alway point the finger at Pakistan.
they need to ask how on earth this happened in one of the most militarised areas of the world.

Exactly this!

What part of my post is false exactly?

It’s never okay to be racist, and I think as Brits @OneTaupeSloth we do need to take some ownership for the role the UK played in all this. Partition was badly managed, and it’s heartbreaking to see how it laid the groundwork for so much division and pain between India and Pakistan. It doesn’t mean we’re personally to blame, but we can’t pretend it had nothing to do with us either.

giddyauntie123 · 06/05/2025 21:49

Awful, and Pakistan is completely vulnerable.
Reminds me of 2 other countries.

Does Pakistan not have any army or weaponry?

Abra1t · 06/05/2025 22:20

JaneFondue · 06/05/2025 21:52

I was thinking that coverage of the terrorist attacks was completely muted in the West.

There’s been a lot in the Times and Telegraph, especially the water element.

TheWisePlumDuck · 06/05/2025 22:20

That's going to make the estate VE day celebration a bit awkward...

blindblinds · 06/05/2025 22:21

I didn't say anything, colleague told me.

iwishihadaname · 06/05/2025 22:23

Pakistan news is saying the Pakistani army have shot down 2 Indian planes. Husband is glued to news as he has family living in areas being bombed by India

blindblinds · 06/05/2025 22:24

@iwishihadaname I hope they are ok

JaneFondue · 06/05/2025 22:24

The UK doesn't need to take the blame so many years later. State supported Pakistani terrorists do.

For those who claim they cant organise a piss up in a brewery, please have a look at US and UK intelligence reports on this. India is by no means the only country to point a finger at Pakistan. Many others have. Way before the right wing government took over. Goes all the way back to Lashkar-e-Toiba, ISIS, and others.

Thanks.

@Pudmyboy I don't know about military really, but I'm imaginging the wealth and power imbalance being so huge now it honestly feels like David and Goliath. I’s hard to stomach one country with so much more economic and military strength take action against another that’s already struggling. I think they cut off Pakistan's water did I read?

Like Israel and Palestine?

So stronger countries shouldn't retaliate? I think that's unrealistic

They threatened to cut off their water.

They both have nuclear weapons.

My neighbours won't sleep tonight they have family out there.

I hope we don't get unrest in the UK.

MoominMai · 06/05/2025 22:30

Heartbreaking. One innocent child, someone’s baby not even had a chance to grow up as well as two adults already dead.

And both India and Pakistan are nuclear powers.

JoyousEagle · 06/05/2025 22:32

Pudmyboy · 06/05/2025 22:19

Does Pakistan not have any army or weaponry?

They have nuclear weapons and a very large military.

MadeleineAllbright · 06/05/2025 22:32

This has the potential to cause severe unrest in the UK. The UK has very large Pakistani and Indian diaspora populations, including hundreds of thousands who arrived in the last five years so are deeply connected to these events and have immediate family who will be directly impacted.

In 2022, a cricket match between India and Pakistan led to a month of rioting in Leicester, and injured 25 police officers. I don’t even want to think about what a full scale war could lead to here.

SocialEvent · 06/05/2025 22:34

This is very worrying

Of course they do. Like they have been doing for years.

And have been proven to harbour terrorists

This substack post from Sam Bidwell is an excellent summary of the risks for the UK here.

An India-Pakistan War would make Israel-Gaza look tame. There are millions of Indians and Pakistanis in this country, many of them with direct and enduring ties to their homelands. Given the weakness of the British state, protests and demonstrations could quickly devolve into rioting. Indeed, there are already recent examples of outright conflict between Indians and Pakistanis on British streets.

In August 2022, rioting broke out between Hindus and Muslims in Leicester, in the wake of an India-Pakistan cricket match. The fighting lasted for around a month, and resulted in twenty-five injured police officers, alongside forty-seven arrests. Both communities allege the involvement of extremist groups on the other side.

By the following month, the conflict spread had to Birmingham. On September 20th, video footage showed nearly 200 Muslim men surrounding the Durga Bhawan Temple in Smethwick, in protest at the attendance of Sadhvi Rithambara, a controversial Hindu nationalist speaker.

The events in Leicester paralysed the city for a month. They were prompted by a mixture of low-level tensions over the Kashmir issue, and heightened tensions over cricket. Despite this relatively weak pretext, these riots rendered an entire city ungovernable for a month. An out-and-out war between the two countries would be significantly more explosive and emotive.

Not all members of the Indian and Pakistani communities in the UK support the government of their homeland. A great many Indians are critical of Narendra Modi’s Hindu nationalist agenda; similarly, a great many Pakistanis deplore the government in Islamabad. However, an India-Pakistan War would likely harden nationalist sentiments amongst both communities. Even if these sentiments only took root amongst a vocal minority, these communities are now so large that this would nevertheless create significant disorder and political disruption.

An India-Pakistan War could break British politics

Conflict in South Asia is one of the biggest threats to our domestic security

While this is very worrying India seems to be trying not to escalate to the highest extent, eg their jets didn't enter Pakistani airspace. So it depends on what happens next, whether Pakistan responds in kind or de-escalates.

Pudmyboy · 06/05/2025 22:41

This is scary, there seems to be so much scary stuff over the last few years, though I am aware that , globally, wars and strife are not at all uncommon. But lately the aggression seems to be between people with seriously dangerous weapons available to them.
