Hoping some hidden gems might be found!

Tonight I saw A Woman of No Importance. It's a monologue performed by Patricia Routledge. I think it's from the 80s? Anyway, what I thought was a bit of satire really shone a light on loneliness and what a life ends up as, or can end up as. Also, PR didn't half know how to deliver a monologue! I'd pretty much only known her as Hyacinth Bucket.

Dirk Gently - starred Steve Mangen and was superb. Axed too soon.

Houdini and Doyle with Stephen Mangan was excellent too. Cancelled after one series.. 😢 😢

Just remembered Damned a comedy about working in social services. Jo Brand is brilliant in it and it’s sad and hilarious all at once. 4OD

I watched this about two weeks ago, I'd never heard of it before but found it really good.

Also The Hour with Kate Winslet and Dominic West. Never heard of that before but watched that a couple of months ago.

Really enjoyed both series.

By The Hour do you mean the one about the newsroom in the 50s? That was Romola Garai, not Kate Winslet, Although Dominic W was in it, along with Ben Whishaw, Anna Chancellor and Doctor Mac from Green Wing (as I shall forever think of him Grin). I really liked it and was annoyed when they cancelled it.

I really enjoyed the first series but didn't find the second one so good, I don't think I even finished it

Roger and Val just got in- one of my favourite things to watch over and over again

Yes to Roger and Val,so lovely .Early Doors, brilliant “Crime won’t crack itself” ,
Mindhunter, Love soup, Strange, about a man searching for demons .
Re Patricia Routledge, my lovely late mum was the image of her Hyacinth Bucket appearance but luckily had a very different character.

IWanderedLonely · 01/05/2025 20:55

Strange - a series about an ex-priest hunting demons. Was on BBC in the early 2000s. DS tracked down a dvd of it for me. No-one else seems to remember it, but it was brilliant.

Iamblossom · 01/05/2025 21:06

See. Apple TV. Jason Momoa. About a world a few hundred years from now where everyone is born blind. It is incredible, the choreographed fight scenes are phenomenal, great story, super bad baddies, just absolutely loved everything about it.

Years and Years by Russell T Davies

ThDanielDay · 01/05/2025 21:36

In think it's popular in the States but I don't hear anyone talking about it over here

Righteous gemstones.

Yes to all of the above. Akan is lovely too. I met him when I was pregnant and he spent about half an hour asking me all about the pregnancy etc!

did you see Nathan in 2 guys, a girl and a pizza place? Obviously there was his Buffy role too!

Ah yes, the popping of Xander's eye.

Yes yes yes to Person Interest and Leverage. Kicking myself for not putting them in my list!

I’d also add White Collar to this!

It’s good. I seem to remember it aired around the same time as person of interest and we were watching both at the same time.

I loved Julia and Grimm, though the latter trailed off in later series.

i have never met anyone apart from DW who has seen You, Me and the Apocalypse, starting the wonderful Matthew Baynton.
We loved it.
It’s available on Prime and YouTube atm.

Yes I saw that 😂, it was really funny and unusual.

Pushing Daisies. Quirky supernatural detective show. Loved it but it was cancelled after 2 seasons!

"The facts were these..." Loved how beautiful and colourful everything was!

Tru Calling..just ended which was a shame. Did feel like Jack was made to be a villian when really he was just doing his role!

Reaper. Again just ended

Izombie. The last seasons lost its charm but loved how she could slip into so many different characters and personalities

MrsLargeEmbodied · 02/05/2025 15:42

i loved Flowers
with Will Sharpe,
particularly his comments about Butter

MrsLargeEmbodied · 03/05/2025 06:26

and A Man on the Inside was good

HotCrossBunplease · 03/05/2025 07:08

Talking of Will Sharpe, I enjoyed Giri/Haji

RoundSquareWithTriangles · 03/05/2025 15:49

Thanks for starting this thread. I can't wait to get stuck into a lot of these shows.

I liked Sunshine, a three part BBC comedy about the relationship between a boy and his grandad. It was written by Craig Cash and Phil Mealey.

Also Half-Broken Things - A tv film about a house-sitter and a young couple. I don't want to give anything away. It's quite dark but good. It features Penelope Wilton.
