Hoping some hidden gems might be found!

Tonight I saw A Woman of No Importance. It's a monologue performed by Patricia Routledge. I think it's from the 80s? Anyway, what I thought was a bit of satire really shone a light on loneliness and what a life ends up as, or can end up as. Also, PR didn't half know how to deliver a monologue! I'd pretty much only known her as Hyacinth Bucket.

Fur TV (MTV). I've just recently downloaded the whole box set online. Have been wanting that for years! Crude, but comedy gold.

Peripop · 30/04/2025 04:59

I enjoyed 'Boss' and 'Dirty Sexy Money' but they both ended quickly and no one else seemed to watch 😔

Memorable · 30/04/2025 05:00

Frayed which was an Australian comedy. It ended on a cliffhanger but the next series was never made. It was so funny, we loved it

Patricia Routledge also performed A Lady of Letters, well worth a watch too. She's fab.

I feel I must ask, is your username in relation to the topper of a well-dressed frog or has the frog opened his bowels?

P.s. thanks for the recommendation

I was referring to a well-dressed frog … But clearly it means something I wasn’t aware of 😬

Hope you enjoy Monkey Dust, it’s really very funny. Not something that would made at the moment!

I like Fisk too.

Roger And Val Have Just Got In was sublime, but I know hardly anyone who's seen it.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is a masterpiece.

I have a soft spot for She-Hulk, which everyone hated, but I thought was good fun (if a bit of a mess).

Oh I saw Roger and Val have just got in, such a poignant tear jerker. Come Softly Darling is the theme tune and I always think of Dawn French and Alfred Molina if I hear it.

Upload on Amazon Prime. I don’t understand why they never made any proper promo for it.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia- it’s absolutely hilarious

Fisk she is so awkward great characters

Here We Go - it’s very funny surprised it’s not more popular

I love Here we go, there's another series out this year

Pemba · 30/04/2025 06:18

Green Wing on Channel 4. It's still on the player. Surreal but hillarious comedy set in a hospital.

The cast includes Tamsin Greig and Mark Heap from Friday Night Dinner, Stephen Mangan and even Olivia Colman.

Sandylittleknees · 30/04/2025 06:27

quacks - sitcom about Victorian doctors with Rory kin ear, they m bad den and Matthew Baunton. It was brilliant!

Sandylittleknees · 30/04/2025 06:28

MrsLargeEmbodied · 30/04/2025 06:38

Maggie Smith Talking Heads, Love among the lentils is great, poignant

spilltheteapot · 30/04/2025 06:41

I love BBC’s ‘ Mum’, it’s on iPlayer.
Starring Lesley Manville, it’s a comedy where nothing really happens. Brilliant.

"Hope you enjoy Monkey Dust, it’s really very funny. Not something that would made at the moment!"

Yeah I don't think the Paedofinder General or the West Brom terrorists would be allowed on TV now :-)

chattyness · 30/04/2025 06:47

I love Fisk and Mum but I do see lots of people talking about them so I'd say both are popular.
Outrageous Fortune and the prequel Westside , absolutely top class comedy dramas from New Zealand my favourite shows ever I think. I never see any chat about either one which is a shame because they're both brilliant!
They tried to 're-jig and recast Outrageous for the UK and called it Honest- this was terrible huge mistake and there was no need anyway it's superb as it is.

Thank you for mentioning the monologue, A Woman of No Importance, performed by Patricia Routledge.
I had never heard of it so I looked it up and watched it on YouTube.
It was so well done, very poignant, I'm glad I watched it.
My DPs used to faithfully watch Keeping Up Appearances.
My mum particularly liked the character Hyacinth Bucket, and Patricia Routledge's portrayal of her.
It was lovely to read that Dame Katherine Patricia Rutledge is doing well at 96!

Keeping up appearances comes up a lot on my you tube! Lots of laughs and flowery frocks!!

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 30/04/2025 06:48

The Woodentops - especially the Spotty Dog ("the very biggest spotty dog you ever did see")

MrsLargeEmbodied · 30/04/2025 06:51

MrsLargeEmbodied · 30/04/2025 06:52

Love, love Roger and Val just got in. Heart breaking and funny. I keep looking to see it it's on iplayer but only found it on YouTube. I'm not usually a Dawn French fan but loved this.
