'I don't shower every day'

When someone states they don't shower every day would you assume they are washing the important bits on the days they are not showering or would you think they are completely unwashed on those days?
Going off the BO wafting around in the shops yesterday I would assume most people are not washing inbetween showering!

Well you say that but I saw a TV ad yesterday for a new Sure ALL BODY deodorant. Aside from the chemicals and stickiness/powdery-ness, this is gross if it’s removing the need for washing regularly!

It’s not removing the need to wash regularly. Some people get stinky in areas other than just their armpits. I get stinky in my legpits. It’s the same sweat gland type down there as in the armpits. If I don’t use some sort of antiperspirant in my legpits it will stink just like BO. It’s not a manky minge. It’s BO.

GoldBeautifulHeart · 27/04/2025 13:55

I don't shower every day but usually every 2nd day. But if I don't, I get a proper wash. I don't need to go into it but every place gets washed and I am very clean. I can't stand smelly people either. The smell really upsets my sensory issues. If I need another wash, I will do so. If I'm going out or on period every day I am showered.

I think the lockdowns had people showering less frequently- I know I often showered every other day then. Now if I’m leaving the house I certainly shower. And I think older clothes smell too, even if washed once they get warmed up by your body they can smell.

If clothes stink once they warm up then they haven’t been washed thoroughly or dried fast enough.

@ambercabs Future water shortages in the UK are a very real threat. The time to start mitigating against it is now, as it will be too late once the shortages actually start. You’re obviously free to do what ever you like in terms of showering, but a lot of us care about sustainability and precious resources.

Why have you tagged me here please?

Tablechairandpinecones · 27/04/2025 14:05

I shower every day, because I hate to feel grotty and dirty. I do train every day though and I can shower in 2-3 minutes if I’m not washing my hair. Plus, I definitely get a bit stinky if I don’t. DH on the other hand sweats a lot more than me but never, ever smells 🤷‍♀️ Everyone is different.

I would assume they are not washing at all on the days they don’t shower
i was in Asda yesterday and I could smell pungent BO from 3 aisles away
Surely them can smell it on themselves?!

Cucy · 27/04/2025 15:01

Most people do not smell if they don’t wash for a couple of days.

Obviously most people choose to wash every day or every other day either because they think they smell, they’re naturally smelly or because it makes them feel good to wash.

For most people, it’s actually their clothes that smell.
Unless you are quite a smelly person, then you’ll find that as long as you change your clothes and wear deodorant, you wont actually smell that bad unless you have an underlying condition.

I shower most days because it makes me feel better but I could go at least 2 days without washing and still wouldn’t smell.

I am fortunate that I am not a naturally smelly person but if you are then obviously you need to wash more regularly.

The main body part that smells on me is in between my boobs because I have big boobs and so I know that I need to wear a clean bra every day and if it’s warm then I wash that area every day, even if I didn’t have access to a shower. But me just changing my bra would be enough as it’s the fabric that collects the sweat and then starts to smell.

MereNoelle · 27/04/2025 15:02

I always wonder if these people who say ‘I don’t smell’ also don’t exercise very often?

TheHerboriste · 27/04/2025 15:06

Cakencookieobsessed · 27/04/2025 13:11

Agree. Also the ones that say you must not wipe your bum properly if it needs a daily wash. Yes, we do but dry tissue is not the same as soap and water is it.

Not only that but isn’t easier to jump in the shower for a couple of minutes than be standing there slopping a wet soapy fecal-contaminated cloth around and rinsing it in the basin? Getting that dirty water that’s washed crotch and arsehole spread around?

It’s puzzling. Literally two minutes under running shower and oneself and the bathroom are cleaner.

Lukewarm water and mild olive oil soap aren’t going to “strip the body oils” every 24 hours, for most healthy people.

Because you suggested that water shortages are something that people in the UK don’t need to consider.

Well, there is an order in which to do stand-up washes, and it certainly isn’t the one you’ve just described…

I really didn’t.

Iggii · 27/04/2025 15:25

I literally gave a reason why I don't want to "jump in the shower" for 2 mins (because of what it does to my hair) yet so many posters are still at a total loss as to why anyone would wash rather than shower.

WolfFoxHare · 27/04/2025 15:28

A ‘bits and pits’ wash seems more hassle than jumping in the shower especially in winter when it’s cold. And in summer I definitely want to shower every day!

One would hope.

But either way the cloth and contaminants are rinsed in the basin. Why that is preferable I’ll never understand.

That’s how your post read to me. My apologies if that is not what you meant.

It is unacceptable in a polite and civilised society (which Britain is neither) to not to shower everyday, change your clothes and wear deodorant.

Whenever I smell BO in public I always say something like 'PUEYY' or 'what is that SMELL?!'. It's disgusting and indecent to subject the public to your filth.

Pickingmyselfup · 27/04/2025 15:41

I don't shower every day although every other day is my max because then I start to feel a bit grimey. My hair definitely doesn't get washed every day, I can't go longer then every other day really, it gets greasy.

If I'm getting up close and personal with someone then yes I'm sure I would smell but most people give me personal space and don't get their face in my hair or other personal areas.

I had a shower last night and washed my hair, today I went for a run and put on some clothes including a bra that hasn't dried properly and stinks but it will do until I have a quick shower in a bit. I'm sure I will horrify people that I haven't showered immediately after running but since I'm not smearing my naked body all over my house I think I'll be fine.

When I do have a shower I won't be washing my hair, I'll do it tomorrow and dry it before work on Tuesday. I'm only doing the school run, supermarket shop and the gym tomorrow so I CBA to worry about untidy unwashed hair.

1Ivebeenthinking · 27/04/2025 15:41

Cheaper toiletries cause my hair to get oily within a day, cause me to sweat and then I need to wash the next day.
bathing in more natural products helps me to wash less often, once or twice a week. I am doily laundry daily though

I’ve embraced shower caps! I cba washing my hair more than 3 times a week due to how long it takes to dry it and make it look less like a rats nest after washing.

I shower every other day or sometimes every third day and I don’t wash my armpits or genital / bum region in between showers.

I'm pretty sure I don’t smell.

I’m the same. I work behind a desk in a building with air con and walk to work so not stuck on public transport. I sweat very little, if at all, for most of the year. I wear a clean top every day and change my work trousers every other day. I do not smell.

The two weeks of the year where we get really hot weather I’ll shower more if I feel I need to. If I’m doing something that makes me sweaty I’ll shower,
if I have sex I’ll shower but if it’s an uneventful week in January I really don’t need to.

Sorry but that's grim
Not meaning to be rude but how can you not wash in between showers? It takes minutes.

Seventree · 27/04/2025 16:29

I shower everyday (mainly because I like rather than because I'm concerned that I'm dirty to be honest) but I can't remember the last time I noticed someone smelling in public. Maybe I just don't have a very sensitive nose?

ObliviousCoalmine · 27/04/2025 16:40

I don’t put that much thought into the showering habits of other people. It’s none of my business.

Crazyworldmum · 27/04/2025 16:41

It’s mind boggling to me adults don't shower daily ! So I have no idea and honestly when I can smell someone makes me really uncomfortable
