How have you been affected by the Tran's community?

As there are so many posts on here that discuss Transgenderism, has anyone been directly affected by the Tran's community, good or bad?
I'm quite young and only know one Tran's gender person, as far as I'm aware.

Sorry but it’s entirely possible that you have met a trans person and not realised that they are trans. Or that you have seen a cis person and thought that they were trans. How would you know for sure unless you asked?

Why the laugh emoji?

HaddyAbrams · 19/04/2025 13:47

Again, not the trans community as such, but the TRAs.

I've had to stop buying from my favorite small business after the owner constantly posted how hateful JKR was, and "if you agree with/support her then I don't want your business"
Ok, I didn't have to stop shopping there, but I won't give my money to people who dictate who can and can't buy their product in that way. If she'd posted that TW couldn't buy her stuff I'd have the same reaction.

It's almost funny that the same small business owner is now posting on SM that sales are down, what can she do to improve etc. Of course is possibly a coincidence that she told "terfs" to stop buying her stuff and then sales went down.

This blind confidence that it's always obvious baffles me.

A friend of mine went through breast cancer. She then had endless people accusing her of being trans. She started to feel so uncomfortable that she stopped going out at all because other women would get so aggressive with her.

It's entirely possible that some of these smug 'I can always tell' types are the very ones who made her feel uncomfortable to that extent.

I also know a trans woman who has had to listen to all kinds of horrible things because no one realises she's trans herself.

So bollocks can you always tell. I'm sure people like to believe they have Terminator type powers of observation, but no they don't.

They think derision is debate.

Totally.

I recall a thread not so long ago on FWR that had to be pulled because GC posters were very confidently complaining that a trans woman was winning the Worlds Strongest Woman competition. Only to find out that the woman wasn’t trans at all.

A post about a list trans rights activists made of “terfs” on Twitter, as shared by other prominent TRAs. Some of these people were posting under their own names. https://x.com/babybeginner/status/1770974651507945597

I'd forgotten about that. I recall that my Twitter handle made the list.

I agree, transwomen are very easy to spot. I don't go looking for them either, but usually spot at least one when I'm in town.

There were a couple wandering about M&S in Princes St, Edinburgh when I was in one time. Long, dyed hair, etc. but the features were unmistakably male.

They were wandering about the women's clothing section - not actually stopping to look at any of the clothes (which wouldn't have fitted anyway - they might* have been able to get something at Long Tall Sally) but wandering about smirking. It was a bit unsettling.

One of them was middle-aged; the other - balding but with long purple hair - looked to be at least my age. I'm 65.

*The young women in my family are tall - one of the youngsters is 6ft1 - but they were much taller than that.

I didn't see that one! Blimey. I hope that poor woman didn't find out about the thread.

Yachtinggwoman · 19/04/2025 14:06

My son is a transwoman but he looks exactly like a man. That’s because he is a man.

WearyAuldWumman · 19/04/2025 14:09

Delphigirl · 19/04/2025 13:19

No

As I recall, the transwomen who are in prison tend be there for serious crimes. Then there are those who transitioned after being caught.

The three that I'm very aware of - because they all lived within 10 miles of me - are Peter Laing/Paris Green, Lennon/Katie Dolatowski; Andrew Burns/Obi Wan Kenobi/Mr Mighty Almighty/Mitzababy/Tiffany Scott. Andrew Burns transitioned in prison.

The authorities were all set to transfer Tiffany to the women's prison estate until the Isla Bryson debacle. Astonishingly, this is in spite of the fact that Tiffany stalked an adolescent girl from the men's prison estate and had beaten up a female nurse in prison.

Tiffany died in prison.

I could spot them even when we all had to wear masks in public

Reminds me of the picture of Katie Dolatowski running from court.

ETA This is the thug who tried to rape a 10 yr old girl in the toilets of Morrison's supermarket in Kirkcaldy. Very different from his filtered pics on social media.

I don’t know any trans people and have the luxury of being able to pick my medical care etc so im unlikely to find myself in a position where i am forced to accommodate a TIM in a women’s space.

However a TIM exposed himself to my then minor DD in a changing room several years ago and DD2s sports club has decided to go down route of mixed sex training and camps. In a sport where there’s a degree of physical contact and strength and speed are important. There are no trans kids but it’s club policy and has ruined the game for pretty much everyone.

she no longer attends mixed sex groups after being barged and going flying across pitch by a boy 6” taller than her and at least 50lb heavier. The girls generally don’t get a look in, get picked last, don’t get passed to, frequently get injured. Despite the fact the boys team was bottom of league and girls team was top.

I’ve only ever had positive experiences with transgender women and transgender men. They have been kind, loving, caring and community spirited. Many of them are always willing to help others. I know someone who will cook for their sick neighbours, always help out with parcel deliveries, happy to give lifts etc.

Trans people are kinder for all of the hatred they receive. They know what it is like to struggle. They understand how important building positive community relationships are.

I have had negative experiences with both cisgender men and cisgender women (cis is not a slur and you cannot retroactively claim it as one). Particularly cisgender men, with sexual assault, rape and sexual harassment. I have never experienced anything similar from a transgender woman.

“Cisgender” is simply genderist jargon, and we all have the right to object to being defined by someone else’s ideology.

If we weren’t so frequently lied to that War is Peace and up is down, this wouldn’t happen. It’s a problem caused by genderists claiming often that men are women.

Or a problem of gender critical people being so desperate to burn witches that they don’t really care whether they are or not…..

AcquadiP · 19/04/2025 14:39

Yes, twice. Many years ago, a trans woman joined our company. She tried extremely hard to fit in but dressed head to toe in pink every single day, which ironically made her stand out. She left a month or so later.

The second time was last year. I answered the office telephone to a male caller who declared himself a trans woman and went ballistic because his preferred gender wasn't noted on our office system, (we are not required to note gender.) His reaction was completely over the top and extremely entitled. He was also a verbal bully.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 19/04/2025 14:39

The same applies to genderists, with bells on, Elle

LipglossAlly · 19/04/2025 14:44

Absolutely not, and I am absolutely baffled and shocked when thinking about what is currently happening .I genuinely don't get it!!!

“Cisgender” is simply genderist jargon, and we all have the right to object to being defined by someone else’s ideology.

I saw a twitter exchange yesterday where someone just kept repeating “you’re cis, I don’t care if you don’t like it, if you’re not trans you’re cis, it’s a fact and I don’t care if you object”

pretty much sums it up for me. I’m expected to adjust my speech to accommodate their feelings, use pronouns I know are incorrect, appear as if I believe men can be women.

i was so tempted to reply “you’re a man, it’s a fact and i don’t care if you don’t like it”, but don’t want to end up on a list.

cis is a slur and you can’t tell me it’s not.

Why is ‘cis’ a slur, any more than ‘straight’ would be? It is just a word to make it clear that you are not trans.

This explains:

https://www.mcgill.ca/oss/article/history-general-science/word-cisgender-has-scientific-roots#:~:text=%2DThe%20prefix%20%E2%80%9Ccis%2D%E2%80%9D,of%E2%80%9D%20or%20%E2%80%9Cbeyond.%E2%80%9D

It’s a slur because it implies women are a subset of their own sex class. The word woman, is, and should be sufficient to describe us.

It doesn’t make sense to define 99.95% of the population in relation to 0.05% of the population.

Darker · 19/04/2025 15:27

In most situations in life we don’t need to state our sex or gender. The word cis will generally only be used where is serves a purpose.

Are women/men who object to the word ‘cis’ transphobic?

Why should I need to make it clear I’m not trans?

the trans argument is transwomen are women, therefore there is no cis and trans, and therefore by their own rules cis is a slur as it excludes transwomen.

it’s a word to define me as something I don’t believe in and disagree with. Therefore it’s a slur.
