What does your half term look like?

Because I’m nosy!

here we’ve had a few park days, softplay, seeing nanny and friends and cousins but today is our first stay at home / garden day just us. I’ve got a 5,3 and 1 year old so they are please with park / picnic days and the weathers been the best for it!

what’s your half term like?

Nothing. No money to do anything. I’ve also just had a back procedure so can’t walk far.

We moved to a bit of an odd area too where no one seems to want to do play dates (it’s a place where no one leaves so they all have family around and friends they have known all their lives so they tend to only stick to them). So it’s going to be a bit shit for my children.

Half term was in February. It's the Easter holidays.

BumpLoading · 11/04/2025 14:37

@SonoPazziQuestiRomani haha oh I don’t realise there were different things to call it but that makes sense!
@Ohbellayoubigtwat oh sorry that sounds like you’re having a tough week then! I hope you manage to enjoy some movie days / days at home with them and your back heals well 💖

We only have one week, starting today. Also 5 year old

Have a couple of days booked away in nearby city (2.5hr drive). Will meet in laws, day at zoo, day at museum, and different parks

Once Back just planned local mornings out on bike, gardening, meet at playground with friends. There’s a few Easter events on like a puppet show in town we might go to. Easter Sunday friends over for egg hunt and food. Easter Monday local flea market event is always fun, has mini kids funfair type things and pony rides.

I have a bit of work to do if I get time and some diy also

Yeah, it really wasn’t the best timing!! I should have waited until after, but the children only break up this afternoon for two weeks and I wanted the procedure over and done with!

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 11/04/2025 14:42

God quite boring tbh

Dd was ill for a bit and is now having huge autistic meltdowns whenever we go anywhere! She's just turned 6, and this is a lovely new surprise to our parenting journey 😄

Today we're home as we woke up way too late to go to the beach. Will try again tomorrow

Snap! Why do people call school holiday “half term”? Half term is the week off in the middle of the term - end of October, mid Feb, end of May.

Otherwise it’s the two weeks and six weeks big breaks - Christmas holidays, Easter holidays and summer holidays.

Anyway, I hope everyone is getting a chance to enjoy the glorious weather during the holidays! It’s been fantastic to have some sunshine while the kids are off.

BlondeMummyto1 · 11/04/2025 14:44

Mine is still at school this week. Hoping to have lots of GCSE revision in.

Surroundedbyfools · 11/04/2025 14:45

Literally shit. My one year old has tantrums and screams all day everyday over everything, my 3 year old is off nursery for the holidays, refuses to potty train or listen constantly misbehaving. My husband is self employed and we r too skint for him to have any time off. Theres been a whole carry on locally of men videoing and taking pictures of young children in the parks so avoiding them. No one around for play dates etc. on top of this I have a chest infection

Sorry if my post came across as snippy, wasn't my intention! It's not the Easter holidays here until next week and I'm jealous

This. ^ Why do people do this on here? Confused

It's the Easter holiday coming up @BumpLoading Not half-term.

Myengagementring · 11/04/2025 14:50

We are at the end of the holidays now, we had a city break on Barcelona last week then back to work for me this week. DS 12 had been a bit bored as all his friends are still away so we've taken long lunches etc to take him to the park to keep him occupied. He's spent the last 2 days at his sports holiday club so he's loved that. Back to school next week but only for 4 days for a couple of weeks 🤣

Does it matter? It's obvious what she means.

BumpLoading · 11/04/2025 14:52

@SonoPazziQuestiRomani its fine it made me laugh, only on mumsnet will I get called out on what to call the time off school 😆

sparrowflewdown · 11/04/2025 14:52

Quite!

BumpLoading · 11/04/2025 14:54

@Surroundedbyfools ahh my husband is self employed with no time off either, although I’m grateful there’s been no weirdos filming children in parks round here that I’m aware of so that makes it less complicated for taking the kids out!

BumpLoading · 11/04/2025 14:56

@mumofoneAlonebutokay sorry you’ve reached a tough stage with your 6 year old! And shame about the beach day, although I’m a little bit jealous you got a lie in!

TheNightingalesStarling · 11/04/2025 14:59

As an aside I've been a dilemma what to call this particular break as my children have just had two weeks off and back at school Monday... the Not- Easter holiday? The Pre-Easter holiday?

IAmNeverThePerson · 11/04/2025 15:00

DS2 - GCSE revision
DS1 - A-level revision
Me: providing snacks and checking DS2 is doing something constructive.

IAmNeverThePerson · 11/04/2025 15:00

I’ve had more fun

coxesorangepippin · 11/04/2025 15:01

Jesus, all of you need a 🍷clearly

Moier · 11/04/2025 15:04

Opposite to most people's.
Home education so we keep away from busy places.. things we do when schools are open.. swimming/ museums/ libraries/ etc.. so we tend to do more indoor/ garden things.. well my daughter does with Grandkids.. l usually tag along.

mindutopia · 11/04/2025 15:06

Half terms are much easier! They only last a week.

We have mostly just played in the garden and done lots of gardening. Kids have had a few play dates. A few trips to the garden centre and we went for a picnic and a swim in the river. One dc went hiking and wild camping with Dh last night (other dc likely doing the same next week if the weather holds up). Will probably do a NT Easter trail or two next week because free. We’re having a BBQ tonight.

I’m going through cancer treatment at the moment, so everything is close to home or in short bursts so I can have a sit down or a nap in between!

BumpLoading · 11/04/2025 15:10

@mindutopia sounds like lots of lovely things, bet wild camping is an amazing experience for your children!
sorry to hear you’re going through cancer treatment, sending hugs your way 💐

Is it? I assumed OP was talking about February. (Or end of May.) Then I realised Easter was very close and she had made the typical error that some mumsnetters make of calling Easter half term! I don't know anyone who does this in real life. Only on Mumsnet do I ever see Easter called half term.Confused
