Because I’m nosy!

here we’ve had a few park days, softplay, seeing nanny and friends and cousins but today is our first stay at home / garden day just us. I’ve got a 5,3 and 1 year old so they are please with park / picnic days and the weathers been the best for it!

what’s your half term like?

DS breaks up today for 2 weeks. Then in for a week before his AS exams start so the Easter holidays are all about revision. Poor bugger. At least for him the weather isn’t supposed to be too good next week.

FidosMum84 · 11/04/2025 15:32

It’s been glorious. A few days away with my DC’s and we’ve had a great time. Laughed so much and went old school with games and cards to do a mini digital detox. They cost me a fortune on days out though. Unpacked now and enjoying the sunshine at home before a busy weekend.
So much better than the last break away with my DC where my ex ruined it by sulking and refusing to speak to me for days. Single life is so much better.

consistentlyinconsistent · 11/04/2025 15:36

Two DSC - cinema, library, visiting family, DIY easter hunt, crafty stuff, watching TV, some screen time.

Marmite27 · 11/04/2025 15:41

Went swimming Monday (extra sessions are ‘free’ as the kids have lessons and I’m a gym/swim member). Tuesday both had a friend round for a play date. Wednesday egg trail at a NT style property out council owns (annual membership). Yesterday was youngest’s birthday and they requested a walk in the woods and an eat-in McDonald’s for lunch. We’ve had a chill out day at home today, but have theatre tickets tonight (birthday present).

Next week, planning movies for juniors on Monday as I have a drs appt in the afternoon so can’t be out all day, Tuesday doing a NT property egg hunt, and then the dentist at 5pm. Wednesday/Thursday the kids are at a multi sport camp at the local Championship football club.

Nothing planned through the long weekend, other than church at some point and a roast on Sunday.

EveryDayisFriday · 11/04/2025 15:43

We're camping, we've done 1 week road trip so far (excellent weather), going home on Sunday. DH and I back to work on Monday, the kids will chill at home / play out with mates/ do homework and revise for mocks Mon-Thurs and we're camping again Easter weekend, back on Easter Monday and we're all back to school/ work/ college on the Tues after.

Mishmashs · 11/04/2025 15:45

They’ve had Go Ape as their Easter holiday treat. It was amazing! We’ve had family over for a big roast, a beach morning and their granny kindly took us all out to lunch. Three days of holiday club. Today I was off and didn’t have the energy do arrange some big trip into town for one of the many events on so we caught the bus up the coast to a place with sand dunes and then ran up and down them till we were covered in sand. Took them to a cafe for a bun and then home. I promised to make empire biscuits with them for the first time (two shortbread rounds with jam in the middle and icing on top with a jelly tot).

Overthebow · 11/04/2025 15:50

It’s Easter holidays here, not half term so we’ve got 2 weeks to fill rather than 1. So far we’ve done some play dates and a couple of holiday clubs so I can do some work, and next week is more play dates, DH has some time off so he’s taking them on day trips and then we’re away on holiday for Easter weekend.

Covidwoes · 11/04/2025 15:51

@SurroundedbyfoolsOh I remember the holidays when my children were young! I’m a teacher, and at that time preferred term time. 🤣 They are 6 and 4 now, and while it’s still tiring, it is SO much easier. They’re currently in the paddling pool playing with each other while I watch from our patio dining set, with a coffee! It does get easier, I promise!

Mydadsbirthday · 11/04/2025 15:52

Please stop calling it half term!
Even our local holiday club has done it this year. "Book your children in for half term camp" etc
Makes no sense!

Middleagedstriker · 11/04/2025 15:55

Kids are teens so want to hangout with their friends. Been off to the hills today as taken a week off. Gorgeous

SilverButton · 11/04/2025 15:58

This is my first day off work so I am very happily doing not a lot. My kids are teens so they're all out meeting friends, going to the gym etc.

Thank you !! That’s so good to hear x

WildJadeWasp · 11/04/2025 16:03

Monday we went somewhere but I forget 🤣
Tuesday had a soft play meet up with DS best friend.
Wednesday we went on a bus ride.
Thursday not much
Today just mooching around.
Tomorrow we're going to a theme park.
I have no idea about the following week 😪😑

MissyB1 · 11/04/2025 16:06

Ds only broke up today (at lunchtime). He's on Easter holidays and study leave, so lots of revision to do!

discov · 11/04/2025 16:15

DD (11) has been off a week already. I feel like everyone has gone on holiday and we can’t afford one this year. But she is quite happy doing her own thing at this age. She’s been to the cinema with a friend, been to play at two friends houses, had a friend here yesterday and they went to the park. She got theatre tickets for Christmas so we did that this week too. We’ve just been out bike riding, and there’s a local festival on tomorrow we will go and have a look round. No plans next week but she will probably have her best friend over for a sleepover and I’m going to try and book a couple of days off so we can do something. It’s helped that the weather has been so lovely.

ClassicStripe · 11/04/2025 16:15

Saturday- local theme park with annual passes
Sunday - Horse Sanctuary
Monday - nature reserve
Tuesday - different local theme park. Baby went to to nursery so made the most of time with DD
Wednesday - baby went to the zoo with his dad. DD was at a Brownies day. I went shopping and lunch with my sister.
Thursday - local theme park with annual pass again.
Friday- lunch with my mum. Hours at the park near her house. Going round a friend’s with the kids for dinner and a few drinks.
Next week we are looking at going to a safari park but apart from that it will be much the same with parks etc.

ScrewtopRose · 11/04/2025 16:44

We have a 12yr old, we work full time and we have zero help/input from grandparents/family. So this week they have been to sports club for 3 days. I had a day off yesterday so we did a bit of shopping and a lunch out. Today they have just bummed around the house as we both working again today. Next week they have 3 days of doing nothing as both of us are working, there’s no sports club to go to so I expect they will be quite bored. 😏

MightAsWellBeGretel · 11/04/2025 16:45

Our half term isn't until May. It's the end of term here, then after Easter it'll be the summer term.

Picklepower · 11/04/2025 16:54

DD's been off a week already, DH and I have been working around her as she requested no holiday camps for this break but it's worked fine. We've had several play dates, lots of swimming, a few beach trips, a farm visit with an Easter egg hunt. We're away next week so I only had to mentally prepare myself for this week really and it's nearly over now

pearbottomjeans · 11/04/2025 16:56

Actually so good so far! Our last few school holidays have been shit a terrible mix of frazzled but also cabin fever, so I’ve made an effort to do more but also chill out this break 😁 no wonder it’s hard, such a contradiction! Sums up parenting nicely…

This week we’ve done:
RHS garden day with friends & picnic
Day to myself omg, thanks to camp and nursery
Met up with a new friend for coffee and then took kids to Minecraft movie, baby in nursery
Took kids to skate park and shopping, baby in nursery
Homey day today and had our besties round and Deliveroo Pizza Express for lunch.

Next week DH is away for work but more of the same - Hampton court, camp, nursery, see friends, kids going for a sleepover, chill.
Definitely think the better weather helps!

LegoTherapy · 11/04/2025 17:02

It’s not until May so I’ve no idea.

This. When did this annoying trend of describing Easter as half term start? Do people not understand what a term is?

FlatStanley50 · 11/04/2025 17:09

We've got one 10 year old who used to be happy with going to clubs while we worked but now will generally only go if there are going to be friends there, which is hard to arrange/ coordinate. A lot of people are away this holiday. And we are not taking much annual leave. Holidays are the one time I think it would be easier with more than one child.

Anyway, we have had a week so far and she's been at a 2 day musical theatre workshop with a friend. DH took a day off and took her and a different friend out for the day. Then she's had two days of rehearsals for a show she is doing next week. Next week is more rehearsals, the show itself, and then I have a day off with her which I haven't planned yet but we might go to an NT place for an egg hunt, or take her shopping for summer clothes, depending on the weather.

Easter weekend we have no plans. I was looking at a last minute break but the weather doesn't look great, so I think we will just stay at home. Hopefully we can fit in a bike ride. Or maybe a swim if the weather is bad. We'll do some easter baking and crafts.

Snap! Why do people call school holiday “half term”? Half term is the week off in the middle of the term - end of October, mid Feb, end of May.

Otherwise it’s the two weeks and six weeks big breaks - Christmas holidays, Easter holidays and summer holidays.

Anyway, I hope everyone is getting a chance to enjoy the glorious weather during the holidays! It’s been fantastic to have some sunshine while the kids are off.

No, actually the half term is the 6-7 weeks of the school term. The gap between that and the next half is the break or holiday.

Chipsahoy · 11/04/2025 17:15

BatchCookBabe · 11/04/2025 14:49

This. ^ Why do people do this on here? Confused

It's the Easter holiday coming up @BumpLoading Not half-term.

And for Scotland that would be incorrect. It is the spring holiday. Ours don’t fall around Easter unless Easter happens to fall around the holiday. So ultimately, does it matter what other people call it?
