Nandy on the chopping block too.

Well, those visits to Durham went so well for her...

Downing St refused to give BP full backing. Looks like she's for the chop. Same for Lisa Nandy.
They did give full backing for Lucy Powell though!

@TheNuthatch thank you
another one bites the dust after such damage done

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 06/05/2025 22:09

Great timing for the greatest deal ever with India launching strikes on Pakistan.

TheNuthatch · 06/05/2025 22:13

I've just seen this on the news! You're right about timing. Reuters now also reporting intense shelling between the two sides. Christ on a bike.

Oh no scary. I dearly hope it calms down asap

Oh dear. One would have hoped the Foreign Office have been advising on the growing tensions…

I don’t know who was advising and who was the advisee, tbh.

I have concluded that Starmer is either grossly incompetent, or he genuinely despises his country (or, more accurately, his compatriots). It could be a combination of the two, of course.

I can otherwise offer no logical rationale for his policies to date, but I am confident that he is successfully alienating almost every section of the electorate.

Were we simply impartial observers, it would be an incredible thing to watch unfold. The man is beyond any adjective, truly.

It’s no surprise, he did a lot of damage when he was DPP a couple of decades ago, people have forgotten the controversies and him being unpopular for quite a lot of what he was responsible for.

This week's Yougov voting intention poll.

Reform 29% (up 3)
Labour 22% (down 1)
Cons 17% (down 3)
LD 16% (up 1)
Greens 10% (up 1)

Pretty stark. I think over 30% and something gets easier for that party.

Who on earth is still voting Labour? Stockholm Syndrome doesn't even cover it.

TheNuthatch · 07/05/2025 09:32

They've lost The Mirror judging by today's front page. Guardian front page doesn't even mention the India trade deal.

According to Westminster poll on Wales only 20% would vote Labour. Majority would vote Reform. That 20% represents the 20% of die hard Labour supporters in here who will forgive the party anything.
Wrap any of most of Labour's policies in Tory wrapping however and they would be up in arms.
Tribalism at its best

User135644 · 07/05/2025 09:38

Starmer has to go. Who would they replace two tier with though? The cabinet is full of lightweights and projections show a lot of them will lose their seats to either Reform or Gaza independents.

Starmer has massively alienated the left since he took over, the right naturally hate him and he's lost pensioners which are a huge part of the electorate. The working class hate them and are overwhelmingly going to Reform. Independents are starting to do well in Muslim areas.

What does that actually leave apart from middle class liberals (the MN base) who may as well vote Lib Dem anyway. What is the point of the Labour Party?

The poll I saw yesterday had Plaid Cymru ahead on 30% Reform 25% Labour 18%. Could you link to the poll you mean, please? Thanks.

Eta: ah, the poll I am talking about was for Senedd elections, but you said Westminster so perhaps that explains the difference?

I think it would have to be Streeting. That's all they've got left who seems to have any cut through with the media. He's not really a darling of the left so not sure if the party would tolerate him.

Labour saw a landslide win with 33.7%

Mn definitely over indexes on Labour supporters who won’t shift. The site must be the last place that does.

Streeting only saved his seat by a few hundred votes last year. Current estimates are he'd lose heavily.
